The Story of Jack Abramoff

(I'm watching this documentary on Netflix right now.)

"The buying and selling of politicians
was the free market in action."
~ Alex Gibney

"Why would you want to make a documentary?
No one watches documentaries.
You should make an action film!"
~ Jack Abramoff, in an e-mail to Alex Gibney

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QX6UiFOr8uM

This portrait of Washington super lobbyist Jack Abramoff—from his early years as a gung-ho member of the GOP political machine to his final reckoning as a disgraced, imprisoned pariah—confirms the adage that truth is indeed stranger than fiction. A tale of international intrigue with Indian casinos, Russian spies, Chinese sweatshops, and a mob-style killing in Miami, this is the story of the way money corrupts our political process. Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney once again wields the tools of his trade with the skill of a master. Following the ongoing indictments of federal officials and exposing favor trading in our nation's capital, Gibney illuminates the way our politicians' desperate need to get elected—and the millions of dollars it costs—may be undermining the basic principles of American democracy. Infuriating, yet undeniably fun to watch, CASINO JACK is a saga of greed and corruption with a cynical villain audiences will love to hate.

I wouldn't get too self righteous if I were you.

George Soros bought the entire demoscat party. Now, he owns it and operates it through the Center for American Progress which is the puppeteer pulling O'Bomber's strings.

At least Meg Whitman came by her money the old fashioned way. She earned it; unlike George Soros who made his fortune by doing insider trading currency deals...and became a convicted felon for doing so.

Then, there's the Union bosses who pumped $400 Million dollars into O'Bomber's and Socialist demoscat's campaigns in 2008.

This is a subject leftists would do well to stand on their right to remain silent.

Just the usual for leftists; gross hypocrisy.

yes you're right jwhop. BOTH SIDES have plenty to be ashamed of. i don't know that soros owns the dem party. i do know that lobbying isn't the job of the decade for nothing. and that the republicans are just as much to blame for selling out. though not everyone has and not everyone did so for money, but other things like reputation and pride. all boils down to money is ruining the politics of this country. gross hypocrisy indeed.

Well said, kat.

I definitely don't see this as a cause for self-righteousness among Democrats. I'm not even a Libertarian. Identifying with a party is pretty mindless, if you ask me. I don't back political parties, I back candidates. I back individuals who convince me they deserve my vote, even if only as the lesser evil.

Hey Valus, too bad Noam Chomsky, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Mao, Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot and Saddam Hussein aren't running for office in America.

Wouldn't those would be your perfect candidates?

Oh, I didn't know Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez and Noam Chomsky are dead.

How did I miss that katatonic?

One thing further katatonic. I'm not afraid of any of those thugs. My prescription for dealing with murderous thugs would be a bullet in the head...theirs, not mine.

Perhaps you missed my post...10 bullets for a better world.

yes guess i must have. fancy that! though i already knew you fancied yourself judge jury and executioner for a whole bunch of people ... despite your insistence that the constitution, which would not allow for such summary dispatches, must be upheld at all costs. we can dream though, can't we, jwhop?

i wonder how come some people's dreams never include the SLAUGHTER of those they don't like? the need to exterminate the "enemy" does give the game away though...it's ALL about fear. call it macho if you like, but the bravado is wearing thin, madeira.

Hahaha, typical leftist claptrap. An attempt to wrap yourself in the mantle of the Constitution you don't even believe in or agree with....let alone understand.

It's not a contemplation of slaughtering all those "I don't like".

apparently the director of this film just dropped dead. 47. not suspicious really, since the first sign of heart disease is often a massive heart attack - in one's 40s...his summary of the film and subject

..."Hickenlooper exposes the underbelly of lobbying and dirty politics. We see what goes on behind the scenes in graphic detail. Hickenlooper said, "We need the lobbyists because without them nothing would get done. They tell the politicians how to vote."

As usual katatonic, you missed the essence of the sentence.

"My prescription for dealing with murderous thugs would be a bullet in the head...theirs, not mine."

Let's put the emphasis on those who should get the bullet in the head.

MURDEROUS THUGS

cpn, I wholeheartedly agree with Samuel Langhorne Clemens.

sorry jwhop, but you have just proven that YOU are deciding who deserves to be shot and who does not. ONCE AGAIN! and you tell me i don't understand what i read? hitler thought he knew who deserved to live and die too.

the american tradition however insists that people are innocent until found guilty IN COURT. your OPINION of someone does not count!

please once again i am asking you to explain your "ten shots to save the world" platform. prove me wrong, that you are not a terrorist wannabe!
