I love VNV Nation, but for some reason (planets?), these 2 were just hauntingly beautiful to me as I heard them that it almost brought me to tears (usually I just like them, not sure why it's so beautiful to me right now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_fLkbxnoGA

Conceal your deepest worries
Confine your thoughts inside
The walls you built of damaged pride
The light in your eyes failing
Like you're adrift
Like night pretending to be day
These storms subside

Though the past, the unwanted memories, are holding onto you
All the power in the universe conspires to carry you
Truths you find through your adversities will defend you
As your powers and all your energies conspire to carry you

The adversary to your soul
The blackest thoughts
That try to poison you
These storms subside
Lay down your greatest burden
Relinquish that which has control of you
And let yourself through...

Though it seems the past and the future look the same
Suffice to say you're still here

xxx

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVf2EeTMNJo

I know it's hard to tell how mixed up you feel
Hoping what you need is behind every door
Each time you get hurt, I don't want you to change
Because everyone has hopes, you're human after all

The feeling sometimes wishing you were someone else
Feeling as though you never belong
This feeling is not sadness, this feeling is not joy
I truly understand, please don't cry now

Please don't go, I want you to stay
I'm begging you, please, please don't leave here
I don't want you to hate for all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion trying to change you

Being like you are, well, this is something else
Who would comprehend? But some that do lay claim
Divine purpose blesses them, that's not what I believe
And it doesn't matter anyway

A part of your soul ties you to the next world
Or maybe to the last but I'm still not sure
But what I do know is to us the world is different
As we are to the world, I guess you would know that

Please don't go, I want you to stay
I'm begging you, please, please don't leave here
I don't want you to hate for all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion trying to change you

xxx

BONUS: I also love this song, one of my favorites, and I'll combine it with a vid someone on YT made as it has some beautiful imagery in space (though also some scenes from a disaster movie), and btw, I've read that our sun really does look white when seen from space outside Earth's atmosphere (and looks different colors on different planets depending on the atmosphere, 'course the sun's colors can change even here on Earth depending on time and weather conditions):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwlsziopzmQ

The will to greatness clouds the mind
Consumes the senses, veils the signs
We each are meant to recognize
Redeeming graces cast aside
Enduring notions, new found promise
That the end will never come

We live in times when all seems lost
But time will come when we'll look back
Upon ourselves and on our failings

Embrace the void even closer still
Erase your doubts as you surrender everything

We possess the power
If this should start to fall apart
To mend divides
To change the world
To reach the farthest star
If we should stay silent
If fear should win our hearts
Our light will have long diminished
Before it reaches the farthest star

Wide awake in a world that sleeps
Enduring thoughts, enduring scenes
The knowledge of what is yet to come
From a time when all seems lost
From a dead man to a world
Without restraint, unafraid and free

We possess the power
If this should start to fall apart
To mend divides
To change the world
To reach the farthest star
If we should stay silent
If fear should win our hearts
Our light will have long diminished
Before it reaches the farthest star

If we fall and break
All the tears in the world cannot make
Us whole
Again

We possess the power
If this should start to fall apart
To mend divides
To change the world
To reach the farthest star
If we should stay silent
If fear should win our hearts
Our light will have long diminished
Before it reaches the farthest star

Maybe I'll share another one later, though it's definitely on the sad side.

I find it hard to explain why I put it in SPITR, but it's like these are survivor songs, and songs of hope when all seems lost, and even about transformation.

I could be seemingly random and quote an Emily Dickinson poem (Tempest) right now that I think is related in her own way, but I won't.

The world "being illusion, trying to change you" also made me think of something David Icke said (I'm not generally a fan of his, but I found one of his lectures brilliant, even if he's wrong, it would make for an awesome novel!), but that's a long story.

If there is one song that I have to include here that is moving and soulful then I have to include Don McLean's song about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his battle through depression and mental illness. The way McLean portrayed Vincent and how he communicated his thoughts through his artwork and paintings is exquisite.

"Vincent, Starry Starry Night"

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul

Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue

Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night

You took your life, as lovers often do
But I could've told you Vincent
This world was never meant for
One as beautiful as you

Starry, starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frame-less heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget

Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will

Really love all of those above songs…

And I have always felt an attachment to this track at varying times in my life… (Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day), and when paired the Anime : Full Metal Alchemist in this AMV.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWYkk73Gvik

I just love such even more when combined with the Story of that Series

Thanks for adding those!

It was surreal, and perhaps pleasing to my Libra scales, to watch the FMA (Full Metal Alchemist) AMV (Anime Music Vid) and then the vid Starry Starry Night right after.

@MIrage29, you're right its sad and beautiful. One of my favourites! Thanks for adding that video.

@PixieJane, there is a nice small list here. What made you seek out moving songs?

I wasn't looking for them. I just felt like some music as I did some busywork and put on an old CD I hadn't heard for awhile. I was so moved that I found them on YT and shared them here.

Music usually doesn't affect me as it did when I was younger. Even now it was different, but it was still very strong in a way that it hasn't been for a long time.

Thank you for sharing the songs you found. I'm noticing the same effect in myself. That certain music doesn't impact me as much as it did a couple of years ago. So I can understand (from my own perspective of course) what you mean.

Yeah. I thought it was very fitting for this thread.

That is one of the best Disney movies and songs.

I'm not sure if "Moving" is the right word, but this song about the Cheshire Cat (or kittens of said cat) made me grin so much:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ueZo5i6GPg

Perhaps it's because I love surreal lands, and had a fondness for Lewis Carroll since I was a little girl. And I think the very start reminded me of how quiet and resilient I had to be as a child in a dysfunctional alcoholic home, often with books of the fantastic (including said Lewis Carroll, though I think I was 9-10 before I first read his books) to escape into. As the lyrics start:

I grew up seeing things a little differently, appearing,
disappearing, hardly innocent, nor
tied down to the ground.
I learned to roll and tumble with the punches,
glory in my stripes and spots
walk by invisible and never make a sound

So I got sucked into it fast (and it has a quality that makes me think of Dar Williams, whose music and lyrics I'm fond of). Other parts made me think of how crazy the world is...and how I'm okay with that (well, most of the time).

I guess it's like that even though life is crazy, unpredictable, and hard to understand, one can still find a grin in it all.
