Is there anything more hurtful? It's as if your mere presence or existence aren't acknowledged or appreciated. My Fire wants to shout to their faces, I'm right here, I will not be ignored! I have recently been confronted with it and realized why I needed to be reminded how much it hurts. I had two absent parents that had better and more interesting things to be preoccupied with, other than being parents to me. Work, drinking, movies, maintaining appearances, cleaning the house, cooking.
Funny that this person's indifference no longer hurt after I realized why it got to me in the first place. How do you react to it? How does it feel to you when people are indifferent towards you? Do you struggle with it as well?

I should maybe be ashamed, it's a powerful weapon that I do use because yes, it sucks. Usually, I just give it back and soon life goes on. When parents or someone so important does it, well, that's probably why some kids (or adults) act out so much. Even bad attention is better than none at all. I've actually seen it action. A woman that i lived with in a ltr. We'd watch her sister's kids and her brothers kids. Her brother was very involved with them in school, playing, etc. Her sister basically had living tax refunds. What a difference in behavior between those kids!!! IP: Logged |

First of all, I hate being ignored. I probably hate it more than anything. I will react to it in different ways depending on how important the person is to me. If they are someone who is really important to me I will usually twist their arm until they confront me. If they are someone who isn't that important to me I will let it go. IP: Logged |

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of beauty is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, but indifference between life and death.""Indifference, to me, is the epitome of evil." Elie Wiesel

I think indifference gets to us because we internalize its meaning. We're pointing the mirror in the wrong direction. The act of being indifferent speaks more about the person doing it, than the one receiving it. It's their inability to deal with whatever I strike in them - whether pain, hurt, boredom, challenge, conflict. They don't know how to cope with it, how to manage it in a healthy way, so they would rather just avoid it altogether, and me as well. It does not mean I am unworthy of attention. Not one single bit. I see this now. It hurts because as an Aries I appreciate it very much when people engage with me with a similar intensity. It fuels my fire. A person being apathetic and absent minded has the opposite effect. I would much rather have a conflict with said person, break some plates in the process, scream our lungs out, than have that person disengage from me.
I find it disrespectful and insulting. It is hurtful in a very raw, primal way. I didn't fully link it to my parents before, though it was obvious. Now that I have, other people's indifference is not so catastrophic to me. It really is more about them, than it is about me. Having done it to others myself, I can say for sure that it's true. ------------------ ~the raving one dancing in the nude~ IP: Logged |
