I recently read a book called "The Alabaster Girl" that completely changed my views of women and love/relationships. For the first time in my life, I really feel like i'm starting to connect with women thanks to the insights I gained in the book. It's a beautiful and inspirational book that i'd recommend to anybody. What are some books that changed your life?

The Stand by Stephen King. It started me on my search to find God. King's books are about good and evil, these two forces. They are not about ghosts and monsters popping out of closets lol

It's excellent, Ami!

I sometimes ponder whether or not he used it to spark his creativity following his bike accident.

Yes and no, if that makes any sense. The author writes it in the form of fiction, but all of it is true according to what he says except names and so forth have been changed. The book is written as a dialogue between a woman who is a journalist and a great seducer who has ironically also written a book called the Alabaster Girl. Throughout the book, there are random excerpts from the book within the book that read like romantic love stories that detail the authors experiences with women. Its a very unique book.

Here's a review of the book from Goodreads.com

"This is not a book for boys trying to trick some poor girl into giving him a blowjob. This is a book for men that want to learn and are worthy of learning the ways of being a true lover.
This kind of men knows there is no sense in playing games, in trying to “have” something by the use of tricks, “have” one more line, “have” one more “magic pill”. You can call that “one more excuse to be mediocre”, “one more way to hide yourself from the thing you want, but can’t actually face” as Kundera so brilliantly explained in his vertigo quote.

How many times we just settle outside of ourselves afraid to be alone, afraid to have nothing to do, afraid to be just sitting with ourselves and meditate about who we are.
That darkness within us, calling our name when there is no external interference is the voice of our best self, trying to scream louder than the TV, video-games and cell-phones that it has the answers, that it knows the path to our wishes.
This is not a book for pick-up artists or wannabe pick-up artists; this is a book for seducers, men that love women, men that sincerely want to learn more so they can be pleased and please, all by the power of “being”. This book can teach you how to flow with your nature, how to float from within and touch the external with your light and your darkness, because you are both.

This book is the living proof of the quote “Be the change you want to see in the world”, Look at how brilliant the quote is: “BE” the change, don’t try, there is no trick, there are no lines, there is just being.

I am not one to promise anything extraordinary, I have no relation with the author of this book, but one thing is certain, if you know how to read, this book will change your relationship with women forever, in a positive way.

If one day I have a son (and I am not really sure, after applying some of the things I’ve learned in this book, if I will ever want to settle like that, if the wind will ever stop screaming my name as it suddenly started since I began reading it) he will receive two books from me, The way of the superior Man, by David Deida and Alabaster Girl, by Zan Perrion."

Reading "The Alabaster Girl" motivated me to step outside my comfort zone and start really living life. I'm doing things now that I never thought I would do before. For example, for the past few weeks I have been going out every weekend to clubs and bars alone. If you had suggested I go out to clubs and bars a year ago I would have told you that I was far too introverted to ever go to places like that. That was a false limiting belief I had about myself. Turns out I really enjoy going out and feel energized and alive when I do it. I've also gotten involved in improv comedy and we will start doing live performances in a few months. One of the challenges issued in the book is "If not now, when?" People (like myself) have a tendency to stay in a holding pattern. We think certain conditions have to be in place before we can start living the life we truly want to live, but is just a story we tell ourselves. We can head towards the life we want to live right now. We just have to have the courage to step forward.

That's so true, AG.

I absolutely hate the summer here, I Dream of the sea, but I stay here.

I blame family, but would I go, given the circumstances?

Don't know.

And bars sound scary.

As a pathological helper, "I don't have to make Everything all Better" definitely changed my life!

That's good to hear about The Alabaster Girl Aquaguy - would you recommend a woman read it, or is it aimed more at men?

I think it is good for women too. I think the writer has great insights on men and womens hearts. A woman can learn a lot about the hearts of men by reading it, particularly in the section of the book called "The Way of Men".

Here's one of my favorite passages in the book:
One hundred and fifty years ago, Thoreau wrote, "the mass of men live lives of quiet desperation." This is as true today as it was back then. How many men stand on a balcony and wonder what happened? How many men cast blame? Why has the world not provided a man with what he wanted? He wanted adventure and got two weeks vacation. He wanted a mission and got a lawn that needs mowing. He wanted a purpose and he got a cubicle. He wanted a mighty steed and he got a minivan. He wanted a castle and he got a mortgage. He wanted a battle to fight and he got televised sports. He wanted wisdom and he got talking heads on tv. He wanted treasure and he got endless debt. He wanted every part of his life to be wonderful, and here he is.... Standing on a balcony, in bleak, ruminating hesitation.

It's cliché, but To Kill a Mockingbird always gets me and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Those two books immersed me, but my favorite is Frankenstein, it really made me think about humanity, both books did really.

One book that was revolutionary for me when I first read it was Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States. Very long and hard to read, but it was well worth it to gain perspectives I had never had before. Along with that, Native American Testimony, by Peter Nabokov was eye opening and really helped me gain an idea of what Native Americans experience and have experienced in terms of colonization.
