I am going to study this. What I have studied, to date, seems to indicate there is a difference. What do you think?

I am always trying to understand a family member who caused me a lot of pain.

Now, I am thinking that a personality disorder is different, functionally, than mental illness, even though people could make arguments they are the same.

I have started thinking about people I know who have a PD.

One guy is a sociopath. He is not "mentally ill" in a way.

His personality is broken at the core.

I guess I have started reading a lot of detective novels and hence this brought the question to mind.

It all springs from a lack of love. All illness is caused by not being loved properly.

Personality disorders are maladaptive coping skills in action. However, there are biological differences in the brains of those who have developed personality disorders through attempting to protect themselves from, and process, abuse.

The result is the same whether we term it "illness", "biological" or not - little to no quality of life without deep psychotherapeutic work.

Yes I believe in the distinction.
The mentally ill suffer and can't function on one or more áreas of life.
The person with personality disorder just has the brain wired a different way and shows a kind of inner coherence.
Even if twisted by normal standards..

I think the person I am thinking of was born with a PD. I think the lens of her focus outward was not broken. Does that make sense?

You should be careful though, we can't diagnose people ;-)
It's a personal research of yours?

Your mother has a sexual dysfunction Ami. It's because she was possessed that she did all those things to you. It wasn't her true heart and self.

Maybe that will help you to forgive. Because God wants us to overcome these hard lessons by gaining wisdom.

What did you learn from what she did to you?

Many people will need your help because many people go through this and don't know how to get the help they need.

By turning this into a strength it would be the definition of love transcending pain.

YES, I think you are very right about her being led by dark forces.

I have helped so many people, not because I wanted to, really, but because I HAD to.

I have Venus trine Chiron and the ASC.

It is my destiny to try to help people who suffer with the same thing I went through.

I feel I am finally getting some real traction, personally.

It is because I realize how much God loves me and that the messages my mother gave me were WRONG

I am going to write an article about how to overcome being a victim.

I have it ticking in my head and I will write it soon and share it here.

I would really like to read that.

And yes I know its difficult but what is beautiful about hard lessons like this is that the wisdom you receive is so much more than it would be for someone who hadn't experienced it.

And to know God was with you the whole time but knew you had to go through it to become what you were meant to be to help others.

Like how Jesus suffered at the hands of evil but God allowed it because he knew it had to be done to accomplish his powerful destiny.

That's really difficult. I mean I can't begin to conceive it
But going to the root of it will allow you to be happier in the long run.
It's brave of you.Sometimes all a person feels like doing is to Forget the past...

I'm a psychology major. All mental illnesses are coded in the DSM (US) and ICD (EU). Both make distinctions between personality disorders and other forms of mental illnesses. That being said, personality disorders are a form of mental disorder. Consider the example of medical drs. All have basic training, not all have the specialty. All mental illnesses exhibit maladaptive behavior, but do not have the same causity or manifestations. I can tell you this much: No amount of understanding can explain or justify how someone with a personality disorder can act. Get help for codependency and if you can, don't look back. Learn the red flags and duck like hell!
