Gillete has a new ad calling on men to stop bullying people and sexually harassing women. It also implies it is men's responsibility to do something about these things, as if most of us wouldn't stand up for people being bullied and harassed if Gillete didn't tell us to do it.I'll be honest. As a man, I find the ad to be offensive and absurd. First of all, an ad isn't going to stop bad people from being bad people. Secondly, it is problematic because it implies most men bully and sexually harass others, or at least don't do anything about it when they do see those things happening. That is a complete perversion of reality. Most men are decent people and dont sexually harass and bully others, and we certainly dont need the company selling us razors to tell us not to do these things. I mean wtf? It makes me happy to see the negative backlash to Gillete's ad. Tons of men are sick of being told how bad they are by the media and have vowed to boycott Gillete. I am one of them. I have used Gillete Mach 3 razors since I started shaving, but I wont be using them anymore. It has been interesting to see the conversation about the ad on Twitter. There are tons of women, and a few men, attacking any man who says anything negative about the ad. They say things like "you aren't a real man and probably can't grow a beard any way" or "if you have a problem with Gillete's ad you are a bad person and part of the problem." The irony... There are tons of women cyberbullying men who took offense to an ad that accuses men of being bullies. IP: Logged |

I really hope the Gillete thing ends up being a watershed moment where men finally wake up to all of the discrimination they are facing at an instutional level.As a college student, I can clearly see how men are discriminated against when it comes to scholarships. I've been told that Trump's administration is investigating complaints that Title IX gives women unfair advantages. I am becoming more and more of a fan of Trump the more I hear and see from him. You miss the point entirely. I will break it down for you:1. The type of men who rape and sexually abuse are not going to be won over by an ad. That idea is just asinine. The only thing the ad accomplished is it annoyed and offended a lot of men who already dont do those things. 2. Bullying is not specific to men and boys. Some of the most mean-spirited people I have encountered were women and girls. Women and girls exclude, they are passive aggressive, and they spread rumors to get others to exclude their targets as well. So why are men and boys the only ones being lectured about bullying? Also, the ad made it pretty clear that the person who made it thinks most men are bullies and harassers. IP: Logged |
