CERES

Ceres is the largest of the asteroids and was the first to be discovered almost 200 years ago (1801). In Roman mythology, Ceres was known as the goddess of agriculture, the harvest, and abundance of the land. The name of the Greek goddess, Demeter, which corresponds to Ceres derives from the Greek meaning "earth mother," and Ceres in a birth chart can indicate nurturing that is either received as a child, or the capacity to nurture in adulthood. If Ceres conjuncts the natal Sun, it is similar to having the Sun in Cancer, but Ceres' meaning is so rich and complex that is also corresponds to Virgo, Taurus and even Scorpio. Ceres people are very good at mothering regardless of their sex and may express this quality by having a "green thumb". They deal with food, possibly as a vocation, and they provide nourishment to either sustain health or to express love and compassion.

Examples: A woman with a close Ceres-Sun conjunction may find herself surrounded by children, her own as well as others, and taking care of her garden and animals with great enjoyment. A man with Ceres square his Sun may find himself in the role a caregiver for children, even through he has none of his own, or in a counseling or nurturing role with adults.

This Sun Ceres Conjunction gig must be getting hammered by something to render it invalid.

My father has banned me from cooking for him - ever. My son says, "school dinners are better than home dinners."

I used to hate being dragged off to allotments with my parents when I wanted to instead. I don't have a garden from choice although the kids moan about it. Tough! I say, go to the park instead, that's what it's for.

It's been promoted to dwarf planet status which Pluto and Eris.

Ceres,Pluto, and Eris are equals in Astronomy at least.

I have a strong Sun/Ceres/Pluto conjunction in Scorpio in the 11th house. I've had issues with eating disorders in my past. My parent's method of nurturing me (or how I saw it) was to make me feel like I could rule the world and everyone in it one day if I kept increasing the depth and span of my intelligence (Ceres trine Jupiter in 3rd). Through a profound connection and understanding (Pluto) of how society works, thinks, breathes, and functions as a unit (11th house), nurturing came through praise and admiration (Sun) for any and all mental pursuits. (11th house.)

Before I "used" my Sun/Ceres/Pluto I attracted it from friends. I attracted friends who supported and nurtured me through being controlling and knowing what's best. Through being manipulative and humiliating me, and constantly making me go through the Knock me down to rock bottom confidence and watch me build myself up and take credit for it game.

But as I've gotten older and come into my own, I'm noticing I've been attracting people who are not controlling but "nurture" through creating deep, profound, spiritual connections in our friendship...rather than barking orders and playing Who's Boss...

Not too big on children, I'm ambivalent. I love them a great deal ....but I get this heavy, oppressing (cuz I'm obviously the oppressor) feeling around them that makes me keep my distance. Nurturing through extreme control (Pluto) something my dear old parents taught me that I not only have a problem with, but also fear terribly. Which makes me doubt my abilities as a caregiver. (And I worked with children for quite a few years and this is based off experience). I think this is only amplified by other aspects in my chart (Ceres square Moon/Mars, Moon opposite Mars, Moon square Pluto, Moon square Sun and Venus, etc.)

Ceres in Gemini, YFIS?

Ceres in Gemini nurtures others by sharing important information....
http://www.neptunecafe.com/Ceres.html

This is definitely more like me as a person and a parent/friend to children.

Also on this site:

"Traditional astrology cites the Moon and the fifth house as significators for fertility and pregnancy, but Ceres works so much better. Try it and see."

Alright.

Son #1 -> progressed Ceres Square Moon 2* applying.

Son #2 -> progressed Ceres Square Moon less than 1* applying.

But Venus was progressed to Square the Moon at the time as well (conjunct Ceres) so its hard to say what influence was where, and I didn't do it alone, as it were.

I have a Ceres, Juno, and Sun/ASC midpoint conjunction forming a Grand Trine with Valentine and my Moon/Venus midpoint. Plus I'm a Cancer Sun, Mercury, and Mars. I'm very caring and maternal and I love taking care of and nurturing people, perhaps to a fault sometimes (I take on other people's problems and try to help anyone in need, sometimes sacrificing my needs in the process). I'm very motherly towards others (but in a soft, protective, maternal kind of way), and many people have described me as being an "earth mother."

In my home and when I'm out in a group with others I can't relax until I know everyone is happy, comfortable and tended to. It's so prominent in me it actually upsets my husband sometimes because he wants me to just relax and be happy and let everyone take of and worry about themselves. I stress out when I feel someone I'm with isn't completely comfortable or happy and do anything I can to make them feel better.

My Ceres is in Leo in 11th
conjunct Antivertex in Leo in 11th/oppose Vertex in Aquarius in 5th - 1'01
conjunct South Node in Leo in 11th/oppose North Lunar Node in Aquarius in 5th - 3'27
sextile Uranus in Libra in 2nd - 1'20
trine Eris in Aries Retrograde in 8th - 1'42
semisextile Virgo Ascendant -'30
sextile Gemini Midheaven - 2'43 and parallel Midheaven - -'08 (bilevel Ceres-Midheaven)
Ceres contraparallel Jupiter - '47

I feel that overall they have to do with being caring, being an advocate/activist as well as being strongly influenced by my mother. I love to eat....I eat lots of cereal..even for dessert..hahahaha

I also believe that Ceres was underrated in Astrology.

I feel that it's about time that Ceres and Pluto are equals in Astronomy thanks to Eris. Its like the Persephone myth. Hades/Pluto and Demeter/Ceres shares equal time with Persephone/Proserpina. Co-Discoverer of Eris,Michael Brown felt that Persephone was an appropriate name for Persephone because half of its time,Eris is away from Pluto. Unfortunately,Persephone's name was given to an asteroid. I believe that Eris has to do with equal, civil rights just like Ceres and Pluto are equals in Astronomy because of Eris' discovery.

I wonder if astrologers will give Ceres the same treatment as Pluto too. I wonder if Ceres,Pluto, and Eris will get equal treatment by astrologers in the future.

Ceres at 1 degree of Aries at the tail-end of H5. Uh, all I want to post for now is that at this point in my life, I feel it says more about my creative than procreative potential. I have a fertile artistic life. I'd have to look more closely at its aspects with other things in my chart before I'd feel comfortable commenting on how it relates to my feelings about having or raising children.

Once again Bob gets a gold star for nail-head hitting:
http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/Ceres21.1.html

"The 8th house also rules other things besides sex. This placement is also good for nurturing people who are undergoing a process of rehabilitation. Demetra George points out in her excellent book Asteroid Goddesses that Ceres in the 8th house might also be found in the horoscopes of those who work in a hospice providing nurturing to those who are dying."

Though I don't think anyone would have pinned me down as being capable of caring for the terminally ill, it seems I am, and I have seriously considered training to be a paramedic or a nurse.

HAPPYDRAGON -> Transiting Pluto opposite Ceres -> flicking through the ephemeris the most pertinent that I can see is that it would have been about the time deliberations about whether or not to have another baby were still underway - son #2 made the decision for us, ho-hum

Profound change in the way you see your nuturing role? Doesn't have to be a baby issue, could be caring in another way or a creative project. Maybe you find you have talents you didn't know you had:

"Ceres in the Twelfth House: This is the house of hidden things, psychological problems and "restrictions." Whatever is in this house shows what we don't want to show to the world, or even to ourselves. Ceres in the 12th house can show that nurturing needs were suppressed. This could also make it difficult to nurture others. On the positive side, this placement could channel these frustrations into charity work where you provide nurturing to the poor, the sick, and the unfortunate."

wheelsofcheese ~ this one was mentioned a while back ~ this was my moment of discovering the relevance of Ceres on my astro-spritual journey.

Star Song has good Ceres aspect descriptions:

http://www.starsongsastrology.com/aspects.htm

Reading up on it has shined a light for me, I particularly like this: "you may be inspired to a more enlightened style of parenting that sees a child as an independent, evolving soul."

I am very unsure about Ceres - and I have a question about it: Is it rather about your own way of caring for others? Or does ist describe the way you crave to be nurtured?

I am quite perplex with my own Ceres-position - because in my chart it is SUPER-MATERNAL - but I am in my late 30s now, and don't have kids, not even a marriage-like relationship! (I'm not "against kids" in general, I just haven't found the right partner yet.) Actually, CERES is the factor in my chart that I have NOT LIVED UP TO at all, until now.

It is placed in thee classic "child-care" and marriage-sector, under strong Venusian influence: I have CERES conjunct JUNO (orb:3), both in Taurus - in 5th house! It is also in conjunct (orb:5) to my P.o.Fortune, which is in late Aries, 5th house as well.

So ... I wonder what my SUPERMATERNAL CERES wants to tell me?

Above all, I am a (maternal?) Cancer-Sun!
But my Ceres is in square to my Sun, Mercury, Mars. It also stands in sextile to my Venus (must be looking for "real love", obviously) and sextile to my North Node - and is opposite my Jupiter (inflated hopes or expectations?)

It is thee part of my chart, to whose potential I haven't even come close yet!
