I vaguely remember a few years ago that there were quite a few juicers on the forum, though I am not sure if they are still here.

I am venturing into the juicing domain, and was wondering if any of you more experienced juicers had some tips, tricks, or **you gotta try this** input that you would like to share...

I am definitely not going to completely juice (at least not at first, if I like it enough and the stars are right, then rock on), but I want to add a good amount of juicing to my diet.

Also, what is the approximate equivalent of meal vs glass of juice? I was thinking of adding (2+ glasses a day), but wanted to get an idea of how I should cut back on my solid foods to not over "eat".

Thanks!!

alcheme,
I am currently researching juicers and the best ones seem to be the Twin Gear Juicers like Green Star. They start at around $300 and go up to $500. You can make nut butters with them, cookie dough (the raw kind) and even pasta!
Here is a link to the Twin Gear ones, hope you find it helpful: http://www.harvestessentials.com/twgetju.html

I don't know what the equivalent of 1 cup of juice is to solid food. I believe our bodies could tell us what and how much to eat/drink if we focused on listening.
I have also read that you cannot overdose on raw vegetable juice. So why not try and have as much freshly squeezed veggie juice as you can and see if that helps with the cravings for other/solid food?

ETA: LOL. I just realized you meant people who juice, not juicers as in "machines that juice" Well, hopefully whatever I said yesterday will still benefit somebody.

What kind of juicer do you have?

Yin

It's awesome that you're interested in this, alcheme. Dont worry about "overeating" on the juice. You'd get a bellyfull and tired of juicing before you'd ever come close to over-juicing. Juiceable foods are super-healthy and not the type to overload you. Green-leafed veggies provied the stuff you really need, particularly the amino acids to replace proteins which would otherwise come from unjuiceable foods. Cucumbers are mild, and apples are sweet, and both can be used to soften the bitterness of the green-leafed stuff. Carrots also sweeten, and are popular juiceables, but apples are better than carrots because carrots are hybrids and not as close to the natural state.

Thanks for all the info! Those are good points from both of you about not being able to over-juice. I didn't really think about it from that perspective.

Right now, I have the GE Juice Extractor. I wanted to go with a lower price juicer, at first, to to see if juicing is for me and start adding it to my lifestyle. Then, once I was a true juicing fan, get a more expensive one with all the extra option, like the ones you posted, Yin (with options to make nut butters, dough, pasta, flour, etc). Then, I could work on adding those healthy options into my lifestyle.

I doubt I will ever be a full-time juicer (I come from Texas, gotta have my beef), but slowly but sure adding more and more healthy lifestyle food choices certainly can only help...

Valus, what do you mean by carrots being a hybrid?

BTW, love the juicer link! LOL!
