My ten year old son has been diagnosed with Vitiligo and has been prescribed a skin cream by his dermatologist. I've been told that there is no cure for this disease, and the best to hope for is that the white patches do not spread. Are there any natural remedies which may help to improve the condition? He currently has the patched on his forehead, eyebrow, and hairline. Thanks IP: Logged |

first of all i do not think it qualifies as a "disease" but a "condition"...and try to remember that "no cure" doesn't mean it will never get better!! i thought it was stress-related, though maybe there is more than one kind/ cause..?my instinct would be to go to a nutritionally aware organically inclined ESTHETICIAN, someone who has probably run into clients who want to fix this unsightly condition and who may have better suggestions than a doctor! also may have some tips on how to lessen the self-consciousness it inspires for a lot of suffereres. after all the only suffering is in standing out appearance wise, right? or is there pain or discomfort as well? has this just appeared or has he always had it? i was born with a bunch of unpigmented patches on my skin, but they are birthmarks and have been in my family for generations so every time someone (including some doctors) asked if it was vitiligo i was able to tell them it was not...if it is not in your family's past or his other parent's it could still be genetic, though it sounds like this is a new thing he was not born with? Thank you for the response. He wasn't born with the the condition. It developed last Summer, after a bad sun burn episode. He isn't in physical pain at this time. He is embarrassed at school, as the patches bring him a lot of taunting from other kids.IP: Logged |

Try zinc lozenges for a few days. If it appears better, put him on supplemental zinc. I love it when doctors say, "no cure." ------------------ "I have found a desire within myself that no experience in this world can satisfy; the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world." -C.S. I had Vitiligo and was told by the dermatologist that mine was a rare skin disease. I was extremely embarrassed that I have white spots all over my body and had it since 2008 and then I went to my acupuncturist...she is amazing and did a treatment to balance my liver as it was off kilter and the spots went away totally. The liver is imbalanced it had a lot to do with stress. I had a lot of traumatic happened to me as a child and so the liver was off kilter. Also, not all acupuncturist is as a great as the one I'm seeing right now. Got to find one that is licensed and board certified and has gone to school for a long time for it. He or she has to not guess where the meridians are and know where exactly where everything is. Many blessings to your son. IP: Logged |

For some 15 years after a severe sunburn on my back requiring medical treatment, I was told by my doctor that I had Vitiligo. It finally went away on its own after avoiding sun exposure for 15 or so years. I do not tan so it was not as obvious as on a tanning person.{{{hugs}}} and good luck to your son. PS. For tanning or dark complected folks; various henna and or self tanning products can mask semi permanently the patches of Vitiligo. IP: Logged |
