LEXX they are great for some people. however my cousin was all up for some implants awhile ago only to be told that the way her sinuses were positioned made it impossible to do FOR HER without creating major problems. some people find they do not work for other reasons.

but when they do work - wow!! as to whether they're worth it a) how much will it cost you? b) how well do you trust your dentist? some are probably better than others with the procedure...

if i were covered and trusted my dentist i would go for them in a minute however neither condition exists in my life at present!! is it just for your wisdom teeth? cos they are definitely expendable!!

I need implants as I have a sinus infection that is destroying my bone. I'm going to look into it, but only when I can afford them - prob in 2 years time.

My ex had all his teeth yanked when he was in his mid 20's and had dentures put in.
He's loved them.
Bad teeth run in his family. Which has me pouncing on our 10 yr old son constantly to brush his teeth!

Was at oral surgeon today after a 5 week wait dopey on meds, still hurting, and today....nothing could be done but more antibiotics and more damn Vicodin.
Then next week and in three more weeks, maybe root canals, maybe crowns, caps, bridges....
some $5,000.00 plus and then another $5,000.00
or so......
So where the hell am I supposed to get the $$$$$$$ to pay for all this needed work??????????? : I am so distraught and angry and depressed.
Still finishing up a bankruptcy, I have no stove, no kitchen or bathroom sink, my roof is falling apart, so is the chimney, my steps are propped up with bricks and boards, (yeah, yippie, just freaking great for my being disabled) and cannot afford to fix a damn thing let alone the dozen or more other costly things needing serious attention....
on top of this teeth business.
Really p!sses me off because I am diligent at flossing and brushing, yet still my teeth keep giving me grief. Bad freaking genes.
So if I am not around online much for some time, I will be off trying to avoid deeper depression and apathy and not dumping here again, as I have, just a few of my woes.

I've heard about some new technology regarding these.

Less invasive surgery but still, they are incredibly expensive but so is everything else.

Having them done one at a time might be an option but it takes about 12 months for the implants to be fully accepted by the jaw bone.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yes they're worth it but they are expensive.

When you get your teeth pulled
(like for dentures)
there is all that space left where the tooth and root was. Implants will use up that space where dentures won't so what happens is your gums shrink and it really ages you.

If it's just one tooth I think you can have that space filled in like a filling.

If you have a throbbing toothache you can take a tiny piece of cotton, soak it with Vodka
(or whatever liquor is handy)
and pack it in the cavity. You'll have to change it every now and then but you will be pain free until you see the Dentist.

good luck

~Sigh~
Seems my teeth/ear/sinus troubles are more complicated than thought.
Due to a freakish hereditary problem , my body has been slowly reabsorbing my jaw.
Not going to go into it all, but will be seeing more specialists and even though it will most likely take many months, they should hopefully be able to halt the process.
Won't be able to eat for months, except liquids, but hey....needed to lose more weight anyhow!

PS. What is crazy is that they said.....
My teeth, except the broken ones, look well cared for and that there "was absolutely NOTHING I could have done to prevent this agonizing condition!"
Totally hereditary/bad genes!
So now trying to figure out how to pay for all of the things to get it all right again, and many months of feeling awful to boot.
So on top of being disabled, and my beloved trying to deal with having seizures, and taking care of me, then this news.
Not happy to say the least. However it could have killed me if I let it all just go.
Taking it all just one day at a time, it will get better eventually!

for what it's worth i heard the exact opposite from what lalalinda said about implants, that because the titanium is attached to the bone it encourages the gums to grow back AND the bone that has been lost as well...

what an exercise in patience, eh?xx

I put whole cloves into alcohol and stick it in the freezer for tooth pain, when we couldn't afford the dentist. Clove has antiseptic properties, and also some pain relieving qualities. Don't know if you can do cloves, but maybe garlic instead of cloves cut in half may help?

Thinking of you friend.

Hugs.

That was what I was told too. I guess they can only do lower ones.
I hope I can get some and hope they will take payments. Will have to find out if implants make it so one cannot have MRIs, as I require those periodically for my neurological and head issues.

Definitely.
Like waiting weeks to months to get appointments with each specialist.
Very draining to say the least.

Yes, have done all of that.
However because it is not due to cavities, but hereditary troubles causing my jawbone to be slowly reabsorbed by my body, which leaves voids "under" the teeth, where infection sets in, the home remedies do very little.
Also due to certain hereditary heart conditions (it was a surprise that I lived past 8 years old) plus further damage from severe childhood illnesses......I have to be treated by doctors whether I can afford it or not....or untreated it could be fatal like it was for my young uncle, or lead to repeated open heart surgeries as it did for my dad when his same type of jaw/teeth issues were left untreated.
Sigh....
just trying to keep my sanity and get through this ordeal.
I just hope they take payments.

Thank you so much my friend!
Sorry I was not there much for you during your ordeals. I was having my own to deal with aside from the ones mentioned here.
2008 and 2009 were rather abnormally trying and terrible unpleasant years.:-( :-(
To better times for all of us!

Thank you all!
Had some serious oral surgery.
(at least I was able to have it a few days ago instead of late July!)
Unexpected complications abounded.
Still in a lot of pain but glad that the worst is over!
Even with novacaine it was absolutely horrible!
Heh heh, I broke the arm off the dental chair in my efforts to not hit the ceiling.
Still having other troubles but am, and will address them all one at a time when and as finances allow.
Well this ordeal has caused weight loss which is a great benefit!
OK...lucidity is fast fading...so until later!
BIG HUGS TO ALL OF YOU!
