I absolutely love asparagus!
Yumyumyummmmy!
(So expensive though.)
I am also going to see if I can find more information on its benefits.
I would eat a pound or more a day if it was not so expensive, same for any vegetable!
Love and vegetable, especially green ones and any squash.

I'm not sure how true any of those stories are, but there is definitely a chemical in asparagus that kills cancer cells. A massive amount of money is being spent on it in hopes that it will make cancer about as deadly as the common cold. Not sure if eating asparagus will have an effect, though.

apparently there has been ongoing medical observation of this since the 18th century. not sure about the stories either but i imagine back then eating it was the only method available?

I have always suspected that my many relatives who have lived to be in their 90s and over 100, still active and sharp minded.....despite smoking, drinking and consuming raw and cooked high fat meats, and weighing betwixt 200 and 350 pounds.....
did so because they also consumed literally pounds of raw and cooked green vegetables, asparagus, cabbage, greens, broccoli and so forth by the pounds every day.
Also strong tea and coffee and chocolate and grapes, berries, nuts in season.
Also vinegar/cider/and pickled veggies and eggs, and Omega rich fish.

asparagus picking time in N MI Like lexx, i love it too and cook it daily in the spring. It is high in vitamins/antioxidants and I figure, locally grown, gives me the benefits of natural soil minerals as well.
I planted some last year and another row this year

I love asparagus too!

I've not analyzed it, but my intuition always told me it was very healthy.

I think it tastes delicious eaten raw in salads!

Apparently there is no trace of Richard R Vensal anywhere on the internet.

However, asparagus is known to have very good properties, nutrients etc for cancer and such. I would like to know what the ingredient in asparagus is that specifically helps cancer. If we need to prove that there is any truth in that story going around the net, I wouldn't leave it up to rich organizations to provide us with the truth; as we know they are heavily compromised. The only way is for groups of people to get together and find out the results for themselves independently.

It is possible that when people find miraculous cures for diseases that are making lots of people rich, there may indeed be disinfo put out on the net to discredit them, so always be skeptical about things, on both sides.

I was very disheartened when I heard that the 100th monkey phenomenon was a myth, but then I read this article by Philip Gardner (that I posted in UC), that gives references to other things which prove that the 100th monkey phenomenon is not a myth.

So it is important to always use discernment, and keep and open mind.

By the way, I think this thread should have been titled something like "asparagus for cancer" because it may catch people's attention more.

the article mentions "histones" as the component most likely to arrest cancer growth, as it inhibits cells' growth in some way...if it is true scientists are researching asparagus they will probably isolate some of the chemicals or compounds that are effective.

i agree, LTT, there is much out there that money is trying to debunk...the cancer industry is HUGE.

there are any number of foods that prevent cancer apparently. the crucifers, especially broccoli and brussel sprouts; cherries!! are the ones that spring to mind right now. but there is also dr simoncini and his bicarb of soda cures, the hydrogen peroxide crowd (i admit this one is kind of scary for me!)...

but also i think it was david icke who talked about chemicals used in fertilizer and insecticide treatments which can cancel out the healing properties of a lot of foods. so once more organic rears its pretty head...

i have heard that a daily serving of brussels sprouts will also prevent cancer. trouble is, what about all the other lovely veggies you would miss if you ate sprouts all the time? [they are my favourite veg by the way, only if they are cooked right. raw - forgetaboutit]...
