How about spicing up this forum a bit. Tell us how seriously you spice.

Do you roast and grind? do you pinch and sprinkle? Do you live for hot, savory or sweet?

Herbs included, are you a chopper and crusher?

I buy all my spices out of the bulk food section, mainly organic. I use a lot of turmeric, basil, oregano, curry, black pepper & nutmeg to name a few that I use a lot of. I mainly sprinkle them. Nothing too spicy.
Though it's not a spice I also use apple cider vinegar.

Hmm it depends on what dish I want to make.

Oh yes, I love my food spicy, but my s.o doesn't, he prefers mild flavors (it's also easier on our stomachs) so if I want it hot I just use more chilli, pepper and hot sauce as toppings and dips. Don't use much salt and sugar.

Love paprika, star anise, coriander seeds, cinnamon sticks, saffron, garlic and cardamon. Rose water and orange blossom water are great in drinks and desserts.

Lol and Himalayan salt (how can I forget). Love the colour (and the health benefits, but we don't eat a lot of it so I don't think we would reap much of those benefits). I love looking at the salt and admiring its various shades. It reminds me of rose quartz and tourmaline.

I use a lot of herbs, chopped and crushed. I especially love coriander (who doesn't lol) and I'm obsessed with the green leaves of shallot. The ones that are sold in markets are usually big and have a sharp over-powering scent. From what I know, they come from the big round onions. Now, the green leaves of shallot grow slower, and ime, slender. I prefer them to the big ones in markets, they are wonderfully aromatic and taste great both cooked and raw in salads. Just like I prefer shallots to onions. I grow them in a little pot (buy some shallots, stick them in a pot with good soil and wait). The flowers are very pretty.

Hello all,

I am new to the forums and find food rather interesting, so I'm glad for this post. I am a vegan and for some reason, I don't really like overly seasoned food. I prefer simple profile flavors with minimum spices.

I use garlic a lot. Also, I tend to add lime juice to most of my foods because it brings the vegetable flavors out very nicely.
Curry is another one of my favorite spices but I can't really get a good curry recipe to emulate at home like at the Indu restaurants for some reason (I know, curry is not really that simple of a profile, but I like it. What can I tell you?).

Does anyone get cravings for a spice the same way you would for a food?

Garlic: I know, but I find it simpler than reductions and heavy dressing and what not. It is a very strong flavor for sure!!!
Not to mention, the smell.

Curry kind of crept up on me. I didn't really like it that much when I first tried it. But then I found myself craving it. I thought I was pregnant by devine conception or something. Never had that reaction to another food in my life, so go figure.

Thank you for the welcome, PlutoSurvivor!

Garlic and onions appear to be like on every vegan food recipe on the world wide web, lol.

I sure love my garlic, I'll tell you that.

Well, I just shared my falling-in-love-with-curry story on my reply to Randall, so in my case, I guess the answer would be: yes!

Gawd, I can crave curry really badly....

So, I was wondering what the metaphysical meaning of curry is since when you crave something there might be a deeper meaning or significance.

Any spice experts out there?

I know that the spice we get in the supermarket is a blend of ginger, turmeric, cardamom and probably other spices that mimic the actual essence of the curry plant, but it's not real curry.

i think I will do a search on the metaphysical properties of curry....
