I've been reading a cookbook by Professor Tim Noakes about Banting. He's from South Africa. Don't remember if we talked about him in this forum. Banting is different from Paleo diet. It high fat and high protein, zero sugar, zero carbs, zero grains, zero seed oils, fresh green veg, certain nuts, limited berries, no other fruit. Great for losing weight and controlling diabetes. There are ingredients in the cookbook that I don't know here in America. Aubergine? Plus a few others. Recipes look so tasty... all that fat we crave is actually good for us. It's only bad with high carb intake. He talks about the food myths and food addiction conspiracy. IP: Logged |

From the book, The Real Meal Revolution...You can substitute rendered fat in any recipe. Fat is good for you. You need it. You won't die. How to render fat: 1- save the animal fat from cleaning meat or poultry 2- place it on an oven tray and bake at 120-140 degrees Centagrade (gas 1/2-1) for up to an hour 3- you will know chunks of fat are done rendering because they will be crispy all the way through (think of cooking bacon strips) 4- pour fat into jar, leave to cool, refrigerate until needed If fats seem to rich for you to eat at first, you can find hot refreshing drinks to be soothing 1- hot water with lemon slices, ginger and mint 2- Any tea infusions (Avoid powdered shakes)

There is a chapter on the scientific justification for a Banting diet. It notes the two major dietary disasters in the history of humankind and a third. 1- Firstly the invention of agriculture and widespread deterioration of health studied in ancient Egyptians. 2- secondly the false (political and commercial) scientifically unproven nutritional guidelines of 1977 bu US Senate which distorts science on an unprecedented and unimaginable scale in response to heart disease 'epidemic' beginning after WW I 1918 3- GMO's with higher usable carbohydrates that kill us as they increase profitability. Carbs are addictive and increase hunger for nutrients that don't exist. Banting reduces or removes hunger, eliminates cravings or food addictions, cures some cases if type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated vpblood cholesterol concentrations. Humans have no essential requirement for dietary carbohydrate. It must be burned as energy fuel or stored as fat or carbohydrate and cannot be used to buil any of the body's structure. IP: Logged |
