Transits are interesting in the fact that they convey certain energies or life scenarios that we seem to have little control over. They come into our life via Planets aspecting our natal chart, progressed chart, relocation chart, etc, and as fabulous as the universe is in all it's intricacies, we humans, struggle in our limited ways to comprehend it all.

Illog has posted two excellent threads on Transits, so I won't reiterate the material already covered by him/her but will just post links to his previous material.

Transits 1 http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum33/HTML/000067.html
Transits 2 http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum33/HTML/000068.html

Instead, I want to try and give a unique perspective on transits and using simple math, show how you can quickly calculate your own transits without requiring software, or other programs to do it for you (though they definitely make it much easier). First, we will look at the revolutions of each planet around our Sun, starting from the smallest to the largest.

Mercury = 87.96 days = 0.2408 years
Venus = 224.68 days = 0.6151 years
Mars = 686.98 days = 1.88 years
Jupiter = 11.862 years (23.724, 35.586, 47.448, 59.31, 71.172, 83.034)
Saturn = 29.456 years (58.912, 88.368)
Uranus = 84.07 years
Neptune = 164.81 years (half = 82.405)
Pluto = 247.7 years (one third = 82.5666) [Please see Pluto times through the signs below. Each sign will need to be calculated for Pluto's travel individually and then added up later]

I find it fascinating that the current average lifespan of 84 years is very closely tied to all the outer planets in some mathematical regard. This means that in an average life, Jupiter will have 7 Returns, Saturn will have 3, Uranus 1, Neptune will only have 0.5 and Pluto will have 0.33. With the Outer planets, let's see how long it takes for each Planet to move 30 degrees in the Zodiac (just the previous years / 12).

Jupiter = 0.9885 years
Saturn = 2.4546 years
Uranus = 7 years
Neptune = 13.7341 years
Pluto = 20.64166 years

Because the furthest planets of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto take so long to progress from Sign to Sign, we understand them to be generational/transcendental Planets that govern Archetypal energies that move us forward along our evolution whether we want to or not.

Uranus transits will throw us into the unknown, dealing with new technologies, new exposure to different thoughts, different cultures, defining that we either rebel or conform. Neptune may find us being more spiritual, more loving, less materialistic, but can also confuse us, show us imaginary illusions, grandeur dreams that lead to nothing but time wasted, the oasis in the desert that never materializes. And Pluto may destroy everything we've ever cherished, throw us into the lion's den of power, powerlessness, intimacy, the desires of ego, soul and magic of the true self.

Calculating transits are easy and there's something to be said about doing it by hand. Yes, it takes more time, but in that time, along with effort and intention, there's a stronger connection between what you're doing and what you can intuit from it. It's as if the angles, the signs and planets come alive and speak to you, they share their innermost secrets to those that truly personalize the energies of the transits. Reading copy-cutter transit interpretations may help in general but only God and your Higher Self can relate how the transit is meant for your own personal journey and Soul growth.

THE YEAR CALCULATION

Let's say you want to calculate your future transits. Pick an age that's coming up - 50 for instance. You will basically want to see how far each planet has moved during that time so you take 50 and divide it by the number of years for a Return.

Jupiter = 4.215
Uranus = 0.595

Then take the numbers after the decimal point (the one before is just the number of Returns of the planet) and multiply by 360 to find the degrees of movement.

Jupiter = 0.215 * 360 = 77.4 degrees
Uranus = 0.595 * 360 = 214.2 degrees

Plot the transit planet in it's new location and look for possible aspects that can be hitting other planets. Aspects are harder to see, but it's because you're checking for a specific Year in the future. Now let's look at targeting the transits themselves.

THE TRANSIT CALCULATION

Let's say you see that based on your natal chart, your Venus and Neptune are close to a possible opposition and you want to see when in the future it may hit. Find the new location of where Neptune would need to be for the opposition to occur and find the number of degrees from the new position to your natal Neptune. Example:

Venus in Scorpio at 23 degrees
Neptune in Aquarius at 14 degrees
Neptune will hit Opposition to Venus at Neptune in Taurus at 23 degrees.
Transit Neptune = 16 (Aquarius) + 60 (Pisces/Aries) + 23 (Taurus) = 99 degrees movement required

Taking the 164.81 years for 360 degrees movement, we divide 164.81/360 * 99 = 45.322 years

So the opposition will be encountered exact at 45 years of age, though the transit will be felt before and after for a period since it's a longer transit.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Lastly, because Neptune and Pluto take so long to move and never complete a Return in our current lifetime, it would be interesting to see how these planets move in your own natal chart and what aspects they create. Neptune only travels 180 degrees ever in our transits after 84 years, while Pluto only ever travels 120 degrees, and this has huge significance. This means that these transiting Planets which can have tremendous impact on one's life will never have long-term aspects such as conjunct, opposition, to certain planets, while Pluto specifically may never even trine certain planets. (I know that these aspects will occur when the other planets transit your natal Neptune or Pluto, but because they move so fast, Venus/Mars for example, I don't give them as much weight).

In comparison of two natal charts, depending on where their Neptune and Pluto are respectively, one may have many long-term Neptune transits occurring while another will have more long-term Pluto transits occurring. The Neptune person's life may be a continuous flow from one thing to another, a deep tie with spirituality and mystical experiences. The Pluto person may be in the drudges of power games, abusive lifestyles, politics, or the epitome of redemption and manifestation.

The realization of such was an eye opener to me, for it confirms that life is an open book and we are it's creator, actor, and witness. How are Neptune and Pluto going to impact your future?

PS: Please let me know if any of my calculations are wrong or incorrect so I can make adjustments. Thanks!

Neptune and Pluto are moving rather quickly at this point of their cycles too, aren't they?

So people are lucky to have the Trines to the Natal at an earlier age than is usual.

I spent about 30 minutes doing my transit forecasts. This is what I got.

18 - Uranus sq. Venus/Mars
21 - Uranus conj. Ascendant
22 - Uranus sq. Mercury
24 - Uranus sq. Sun
28 - Uranus conj. Moon
38 - Uranus conj. Venus/Mars
42 - Uranus conj. Mercury
44 - Uranus conj. Sun

20 - Neptune sq. Venus/Mars
28 - Neptune conj. Ascendant, Neptune sq. Mercury
32 - Neptune sq. Sun
33 - Neptune sex. Venus/Mars
42 - Neptune conj. Moon, Neptune sex. Mercury
45 - Neptune sex. Sun
59 - Neptune conj. Venus/Mars
68 - Neptune conj. Mercury
72 - Neptune conj. Sun

[Redid Pluto]
6.7 - Pluto opp. Venus/Mars
13.3 - Pluto tri. Moon, Pluto opp. Mercury, Pluto sq. Ascendant
16.6 - Pluto opp. Sun
25.7 - Pluto sq. Moon
31.2 - Pluto tri. Venus/Mars
40.8 - Pluto tri. Mercury
47 - Pluto sq. Venus/Mars
59 - Pluto conj. Ascendant, Pluto sq. Mercury
64 - Pluto sq. Sun
82 - Pluto conj. Sun

It's hard to say whether trines early are beneficial because sometimes the energy is too easy. The oppositions of Pluto in my early years did a whopper on my personal planets and I am who I am because of them. The early squares of Neptune did the same thing for me and I look forward to my conjuncts later in life that will hopefully open up my spiritual path even more.

Usually someone who has early life trines will have later life oppositions or conjuncts so it's hard to say. But definitely with more life experience, hopefully they can be handled more efficiently.

Ack!! I just realized that due to the elliptical orbit of Pluto, the calculations for Pluto could be off. Hmm, does anyone have a simpler way of calculating those?

Found it:

Aries - 29 years
Taurus - 32 years
Gemini - 30 years
Cancer - 25 years
Leo - 18 years
Virgo - 15 years
Libra - 12 years
Scorpio - 11 years
Sagittarius - 13 years
Capricorn - 16 years
Aquarius - 20 years
Pisces - 25 years

Hmm, let's see what this does to my previous transits.

We're just in an extremely quick part of the orbit.

The Pluto in Scorpio days were shortened...

Ephemeris helps for that part. (To fine-tune.)

What you have put up is helpful to take the entire cycle into account, kind of an overview.

This is the most important part, if you ask me.

Three stories to build the Saturn House, etc.

Also, I can't tell you how many people have asked this question, I've already referred one to this Thread, and will Bookmark for future reference.

Thanks!

Can anyone say which transits have an influence on or accompany a kundalini awakening? I did read something by iQ but can't find the post now.

Well I just had an individual experience Mar 25. Kundalini raised above the heart chakra through the crown. Most of us have it trapped below the heart chakra. Most feel it as sexual energy. I had it trapped for a very long time below the heart chakra. This was a safe opening for me, not an explosion such as sensationalized by many others.

There were many close transits. AK, you can look it up if you want, but for others here are the transiting planets involved: sun moon merc Venus mars Jupiter uranus neptune Pluto NN kaali. I did not check asteroids other than kaali.

Uranus is said to electrify your passageways. I had
Uranus aspecting sun mars and trine to natal uranus.
Plus neptune trine natal uranus.

Kaali, kundalini asteroid (4227) trine moon on one side and trine Jupiter on the other side of chart making a grand trine.

Neptune, for spititual awakening was aspecting 6 planets up to 4 degrees. Mercury trine to neptune also.

Also moon Pluto conj in sky making conjunction to natal sun.

Sorry I have not documented other experiences, but I will pay attention from now on.

Wow, PS! That sounds like a a rare configuration. T Kaali aspecting n Moon, T Mercury aspecting n Neptune, t Pluto on n Sun and more at the same time.

iQ once said, "Technically, we get opportunities for small amounts of Kundalini Rise every 7 years when a Saturn square to Natal Saturn occurs." I wonder if you'd noticed anything of the sort.

Hi I have a technical question about how to read transits.

When looking at transits, how do you tell whether they are making a square, trine, etc? Are transiting aspects shown in green in the grid chart like how the natal aspects are? Or do you have to figure it out just by eye?

Also, do orbs come into play here as they do in the natal chart? Honestly, as a beginner, I've never messed with orbs and when pulling up charts on astro.com I just go with whatever is already set by the website. Thanks!

Hi aquagembaby,

Since you're looking up at astro.com, I'll use that as an example. When you go to the Free Horoscopes -> Extended Chart Selection, you would choose 'Natal charts and transits' as chart type.

In the visual chart, the transits would be shown in green around the outside of the natal chart, but it's hard to see the actual aspects between transits and natal.

In order to see them easily without eye or doing all the calculations by hand, find the link that says "Additional tables (PDF)" and at the bottom it will show aspects between the Natal planets and the Transit planets.

Have fun!

Over the years I've learned to give Pluto, Uranus and Neptune their due and each are great in their own ways.
