If a planet is within 10 degrees of the rising sign it tends to color the Asc. and you take traits associated with the planet rising, here are some good ones I got from Celeste Teal

With the Sun rising, the first impression is of a commanding presence. The eyes are most striking, with a forceful, direct look. This position tends to a well-proportioned stature; clear complexion and light hair with a tendency toward pre-mature balding. The jaw line and chin are definite; the mouth wide and firm. These individuals exude a presence of leadership. John Lennon had the Sun rising in Libra.

A rising Moon inclines to a round face, snub nose and cheeks that are fairly flat. Natural worriers, these people often have frown lines and a mouth that turns down at the corners. Sympathetic, the feelings usually show in the expression like a beacon, as they are super sensitive to subtle messages around them. Of small stature and "chunky" hands and feet, there’s a tendency toward plumpness in later years. With a rapidly flowing variability of mood, these people are prone to phases and often quite “personable”. See the chart of Madonna who has a rising Moon.

Mercury rising inclines to an oval face, high cheekbones, pointed chin, a thin nose and slender features overall. The eyebrows are arched over intelligent eyes and the mouth, though wide may lack decisiveness. There are signs of much mental agility and sometimes, restlessness. The hands are also slender and add an expressive dimension to the demeanor. A forever-youthful appearance goes along with Mercury in this position. George W. Bush and Madonna have Mercury rising.

When Venus is rising, the personality is pleasing and the voice gentle. The nose is slightly pointed, eyes calm; often blue or brown and the hair soft. These individuals incline to a short and well-proportioned stature. With elegance, grace, poise, beauty and a vivacious manner, these are the socialites and mediators of the zodiac and generally welcomed in any circle. Grace Kelly and Bill Clinton are examples of Venus rising.

Mars rising inclines to heavy eyebrows over direct or piercing eyes and the overall demeanor is of decisiveness and forceful energy. With high forehead and cheekbones, the nose is long, the mouth chin firm. Mars gives a strong and stocky body and a ruddy complexion from excess iron in the system. The hair may also be red and is usually curly or wiry. There could be a mole or mark on the face and the temper often shows livid. Bill Clinton and Donald Trump have Mars rising.

Jupiter rising gives an oval, aristocratic face; quite refined with a long straight nose and pointed chin. The hair is wavy and the kindly, expressive eyes are wide set and almond shaped under arched eyebrows. The manner is paternal and the stature is well formed, with a tendency to portliness in later years. Jane Fonda and Clark Gable are examples of Jupiter rising.

Saturn rising inclines to a serious expression that may best be described as grim. Deep furrow lines on the forehead and shrewd eyes accompany a reserved set to the mouth and jaw to show ambition and perseverance. The bones are large and the body slender and there may be signs of stooping with age. With curly hair, the skin is often darker than ordinary from excess sulfur in the system or else it is more pale than ordinary. Sean Connery and Clark Gable are examples of Saturn rising.

Uranus rising tends to light and lively eyes that are brilliant and keen. With a strong nose and wide mouth there’s an air of nobility and an aloof glamour. The jaw line tends to be fleshy. These individuals are original if somewhat abrupt in manner and there’s a somewhat spasmodic nature about them. These individuals show length of limb and a tendency to the slender side. Often there’s at least one effeminate feature no matter the gender. John Travolta has Uranus rising and could this be the dimple in his chin?

Neptune rising tends toward finely organized features and oval face, with a small nose and pointed chin. The eyebrows are arched over large round, hypnotic eyes. The hair naturally retreats from the temples. With a somewhat ethereal look, there’s a mystical quality of charm and the mouth may be sensual. Due to a tendency toward the loss of vital fluids, the face may wrinkle prematurely. Marilyn Monroe showed the alluring appeal of Neptune rising.

Pluto rising tends toward a dark and swarthy appearance with penetrating eyes under heavy eyebrows. The cheekbones are flat and somewhat fleshy, with a firm mouth and determined chin. The build is rugged and sturdy with physical strength that is greater than the body size suggests. The skin is delicate and except for fine hair on the head there’s little on the rest of the body. Leonardo DiCaprio shows traits of his rising Pluto. JFK Jr. also had this Pluto position and with the North Node attending, his height was increased beyond the average.

I have Jupiter rising (in the 12th) Its strong here because its in its home sign. Although technically more than 10 degrees away, it applys because of its home placement and rules the chartstregnth.

What planets are rising in your chart?
What characteristics do you take from that planet?

So, this is different than the Ruling planet, right? Don't have any planets rising, the closest one is twenty-three degrees away.

Everlong,
Your ruling planet is Mercury in the 8th house.
Your rising planet is Jupiter at 28 Taures(conjunct Mars) This is a nice placement for Jupiter, spiritual.

My Asc. is in Aries at 15 degrees and 32 minutes... I quite honestly have no clue as to what my rising planet is, so I am going to have to take a guess here and say that maybe it is Saturn in Scorpio at 24 degrees and 45 minutes...

Sana,
You have Saturn rising but conjunct your ruler Pluto both planets are retrograde in the 12th house. And both (even though in a different sign) are considered conjunct the ascendant.

Astromis You have no rising planet in fact your most elevated planet is Venus. Your ruler Mercury is in the 6th (but you know this right? What type of chart do you have? Well You've stumped me (temporarily) I want to say bucket, but I'll double check and see if i can't find something more accurate.

Oceanic Dreams Your ruler is Mars in Virgo in the 6th house. Ruling your Ascendant and conjunct Venus, this shows how you yourself relate to the partners in your life. Get it Mars and Venus which rule the 1st and 7th (Aries and Libra) are conjunct so these two areas of your life are in sync. Very cool placement
Your Moon is considered rising because it sits so close (2degrees) to the asc.

Astromis,
I found it, it is a bucket because of the placement of your N.N Thought you might like this

Where the planets form a Bowl (all planets with the distance of a trine) with the exception of one or a pair together on the opposite side of the chart, the Bucket is produced. The lone planet(s) shows a special capacity that brings a compelling orientation to the whole life. Achieving objectives is important to the psychological well-being. In this case, the individual becomes a source of inspiration or an agitator, depending on the development of the overall potential. Bill Gates, Calista Flockhart and John Lennon have charts of the Bucket type. Often, the Bucket type will have a Tee-Square; three or more planets involved in 90 degree angle aspects to form a T in the chart. Such stress is often behind great productivity. In the chart of Bill Gates, Chiron is a factor in the Bucket pattern.

Goober,(post, edited)
You have no rising planet per se (conjunct the asc.) but the Sun at 8 degrees Aquarius in the 11th house is rising in your chart. The way this works is the closest planet to the Ascendant in the 12th house, that is rising (making its way to the top or 10th house) Our exception here is Oceanic Dreams whos Moon is 2 degrees into the 1st house and conjunct her Asc. Here is a piece on 0 degrees Aries (your asc.) and Neptune which is 0 degrees Capricorn (a cardnal point)

Aries Point Degrees
The true Aries Point degree is 0 Aries, however, the 0 degree of the four Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) are all referred to as Aries Point degrees. This beginning degree of the Cardinal signs has similar connotations to the angles of a chart and is an indicator of eventful times when occupied by a planet or found on a house cusp. These points are indicative of a spectacular out rush of energies. There is frequently an involvement with the world at large. Outsiders or those who’re considered an expert in some area becomes involved in one’s personal matters. Ramifications of events often have a domino effect into each personal area of the life as represented by these four Cardinal points: personal, family, relationships and status. Those with a planet in this degree in the natal chart often have some influence in worldly affairs or at some point they come into public view. As such, the degree is also associated with fame. There is substantial information on the Aries Point degrees in, Predicting Events with Astrology in the final chapter called Special Points. It is also referenced in Identifying Planetary Triggers by Celeste Teal

Thanks so much for clearing that up for me! I couldn't figure it out since everything I read dealt with where the planets were and never mentioned that N. Node could be involved in the determintaion of the type.

My rising sign is Libra, but I have pluto in the 1st house. I think this accounts for my hawkish looks and piercing, dark eyes. The physical strength thing is spot on, I'm much stronger than I look and stronger than most women. My ex-husband always said it was harder to take me down than most of his fellow Marines, lol! He had to work hard to get the better of me physically, heheh.

I remember in high school a bunch of guys thought it would be funny to rush me and throw me into the swimming pool. I saw them coming and decided I am not moving. The three or four of them couldn't get me off the bench, they tried everything and gave up after about 10 minutes. Haha... I'm remembering the distress on their faces, they couldn't believe they couldn't physically peel me away and after awhile, they left me alone, lol.

My boyfriend has Scorpio rising and Uranus in his first house. He has piercing eyes that could bore a hole through you and strong features... yes, he has long limbs, very athletic. Probably the only feminine feature he has is just how statuesque and nicely formed his physique is. I've often thought with his height and basic physiology, if he was a woman he'd be a fashion model. Maybe that's the Uranian influence right there?

lalalinda-

Not sure if i am getting this. So does this mean that any 12th house placement would be the rising planet(s) and thus all things regarding such factor in?

If so does that "outweigh" 1st house placements or merely blend them together?

I am not sure if i am even expressing my question correctly so forgive me if it is not clear.

thank you for all your wonderful teaching!!!

Oh you guys I'm so sorry, after rereading my original post, I can certainly see how I've confused everyone, so let me clarify. A planet that has crossed the horizon (Asc.) and is making its way to the top of the chart (10) is rising in your chart.
A planet that is conjunct the Asc. (in the first house) can also be called a rising planet (although technically it hasn't risen yet). The closer to the Asc. the more it will influence your appearance. In fact ANY planet that aspects the Asc. will color the way you look.

Angel, Yes mercury, because it is in the sign of your asc.

Goober, yes the Sun even though its in the 11th house because with your Asc. ruler Aries, the Sun is exalted.

Aquarian Girl, yes it sounds very much like Pluto. Libras apperience is very refined, sometimes too perfect.
And it sounds very much like plutonian behavior

Ladya, I think I answered your question above. Any angles (1) influence is going to be seen more readily than characteristics of the 12th house. But yes, always blend.

I don't have a Rising planet. :-P The closest planet to my Ascendant is Pluto...and that's....A ways away from my Ascendant. (Ascendant - 27.14 degrees Virgo, Pluto - 17.01 degrees Scorpio)

My Chart Ruler (Mercury) is in Taurus in the 8th House though.

The most "elevated" planet I have is Jupiter at 04.20 degrees Cancer. It's in my 10th House.

I also have a ridiculously thick head of hair (if that associates with the sun).

Oh, I do, too. People always tell me my hair is pretty, too. Sometimes, I think it's a little weird. Especially when girls randomly come up and start feeling my hair. They're just like "It's so pretty..." And I'm just thinking "WTF?!"
