Mars through the Houses
As you know from previous lessons, the House location of a planet describes the area in life where the individual’s Mars energy, coupled with their willpower can be expressed in the most effective manner. The House meanings to follow are general, in that they don’t take into account, Mars’s Sign location and aspects. To get the most accurate meaning, the House, Sign and aspects must all merged together.

Mars in the 1st House – Mars in the 1st house indicates an individual who is outgoing and displays abundant energy in their lives. Their usually physically fit, and enjoy working out and being involved in competitions where they can display their power. They will not be content with sitting on the sidelines in life; they need to be fully in the game. They are competitive and will usually be successful through their own efforts. Mars energy is best expressed when it is directed towards overcoming physical hurdles and working hard. If Mars is afflicted by sign or aspect, they can often become arrogant and egotistical, and bullying.

Mars in the 2nd House – In the second House, Mars energy is usually focused on achieving financial and material gains. Unfortunately, they aren’t always as good at handling money as they are at earning it. Because of this, they need to concentrate on getting value for their money, so that they have assets available if needed. They often start their own businesses, are work their way up to the top management in other’s companies. To them, success is spelled “MONEY”. They are quite attached to their possessions, considering them an extension of their own worth. If afflicted, Mar’s energy can be displayed as excessive concern with material goods, and they may go to any means to acquire material goods.

Mars in the 3rd House – In the 3rd House, Mar’s energy is focused in the individual’s intellect and thinking ability. These natives can often be too impulsive in speech, and at the best very direct in communications. They aggressively assert themselves in the interaction with others in order to obtain or deliver information. They often work in some medium connected to communications and data transfer. They tend to go off on others who they feel are acting in a stupid manner, particularly other drivers.

Mars in the 4th House – Mars in the 4th House focuses the individual’s energy toward their place of residence, and they tend to try to dominate all aspects of the operation of the house. They tend to lack emotional control, which often leads to conflicts in the home. These people are often do-it-yourself individuals who love to constantly be working on their home. On a larger scale, these individuals often feel responsible for caring for the environment of the planet and direct a great deal of energy towards that goal. Often as they grow older, they start to acquire property in order to have a base to work out of when they retire. Mar’s in the 4th gives a strong constitution and energy well into their old age.

Mars in the 5th House – Here Mar’s energy is directed toward love and pleasure. The individuals are aggressive and emotional concerning sex and romance and they have a strong sexual drive early in life. If Mars is afflicted by sign or aspect, this energy can often turn to possessiveness and jealously. Artists who work with tools, such as sculptors, often have Mars in the 5th. Athletes also will often have Mars located here. Some individuals often expand their family beyond their immediate families to groups, such as coaches and teachers. They can arouse interest and dedication in those they inspire, through their examples. If afflicted, they may become dictatorial and authoritarian towards those they have charge of.

Mars in the 6th House – Here Mar’s expresses its energy through service and work for others, as well as in their own occupation. They are hard energetic workers who have little or no patience with others who are lazy or unwilling to work for a living. Their self-esteem comes from doing their work on time and doing it well. They are willing to work hard to help anyone willing to try for themselves, and for those who can’t. If afflicted, Mars indicates possible disputes with co-workers and bosses, and a tendency to expect too much out of others.

Mars in the 7th House – Individuals with Mars in their 7th House prefer to couple their energy with others in order to work for mutual goals, rather than going it alone. Their energy is often expressed through one-on-one interactions with others, rather than through their own individual endeavors. If afflicted, their interaction with others will not always be positive or productive, die to disagreements and disputes. Their interactions may take on a competitive instead of a cooperative agenda.

Mars in the 8th House – Mars in the 8th House expresses its energy through powerful desires and emotional intensity. They are aggressive and persistent in their endeavors, and have one of the strongest sex drives of any location. If they are evolved, they will take an intensive interest the occult. They also have a healthy interest in life-after-death, often brought on through experiences with the death of someone close or in war. These people generally hold their cards close to their chest, preferring to work quietly behind the scenes to accomplish their goals.

Mars in the 9th House – In the 9th Mar’s energy is best expressed in an intense interest in religious, philosophical, and educational endeavors. They can be crusaders who aggressively promote their ideals or causes. If evolved enough, these individuals can lead social reform, and inspire others to behave more ethically. Because Mar’s energy is expressed in action, not just words, they are highly effective in their efforts. They seek understanding through direct experiences, often leading to travel. They tend to actively support military organizations and associations, as well as other groups that support their own beliefs and goals. If Mars is afflicted in the 9th House, they can become very narrow vision and fanatical in their views and efforts.

Mars in the 10th House – Here Mar’s energy is directed toward one’s own fame and status. They have a strong competitive drive to reach the top, and are often found in political offices or corporate management. Mars is particularly strong in this house conferring initiative and executive ability for practical achievement. If Mars is afflicted in the 10th House, the means that they use to get to the top will often be unethical. They believe that the end justifies the means. Because of this, when they are exposed, their career is often over. They may also be so materialistic, that they disregard human values and the rights of others to achieve their objectives.

Mars in the 11th House – Here Mar’s energy is directed toward their friendships and associations. Their friends will tend to have their Mar’s in a more aggressive house and be of great help to them in their efforts. They will spend a great deal of energy to first build then support their friendships. They understand networking at its most fundamental level, and use it effectively to achieve their goals. This is not to say that they use other people, that is not their intent, they just understand that the wider your associations, the more productive it is for you. Where as Mars in the 7th develops their self-image through interaction with one-on-one relationships, Mars in the 11th develops the same through interaction and belonging to larger groups of people.

Mars in the 12th House – Mar’s energy in the 12th is expressed through desires and actions that are strongly influenced by the unconscious mind. As such, much of the motivation of their actions are hidden from others as well as from themselves. They often work in environments where they blend in with large groups of others in order to disappear or be unnoticed by others. They are a lot like the lizard that changes his color to match his environment in order to protect himself from being seen and then eaten. Like Mars in the 8th, these individuals are highly sexual, but unlike the 8th House Mars, they often suppress their needs and desires instead of expressing them openly, or they hide their sexual behavior from others.

In a couple of weeks I'll have the Mar's Aspects reday.

proxieme dear, does that mean that you are getting married tommorrow?

As far as your husband to be, take a look at the Mars in Pisces segment of lesson 16. It would seem that your partner is exteremely emotional in nature: probably cries at sad movies although he wouldn't want others to know. Much of his emotional expression stems from his unconscious, which would be a good thing to keep in mind. Most of his emotional expressions regarding you have little to do with you personally. Hes playing out something in his subconscious that your actions triggered. You can help him the most by encouraging him to express his emotions openly, and not let them build up, then help him explore the reason behind them.

Best of luck love

mars in eighth here,
i am interested in occult, and i do keep my cards close to my chest (very close)......

and........
i can work behind the scenes and noone knows about it, but now and then my SUN CONJ MC in scorpio brings to public eye things i usually want to keep to myself ( nothing drastic )

and also thanks to LANNY who had told me before that i should try and not behave according to my Capri asc and try using qualities of my scorpio sun, though it has not made an external difference but internally it has made me a better person

i kinda brood less and take things in a positive way and really try to tackle them

thanks LANNY
KEEP GIVING ME GOOD ADVICE
I'M IN NEED OF IT DESPARATELY
WHO BETTER TO GET THAN MY FELLOW CAPRI ASC(it's funny though that these small things somehow please me more)

Yep, got married yesterday (to Jason/scatbug).

I can really see what you've said playing out in his behavior.
He's a 3rd House Aqua Sun (exactly conjunct within 10ths of a minute of a degree my 3rd House Aqua Moon) and 6th House Taurean Moon with both Pluto and Mars contacts all over the place, so it blends with the rest of his personality in very interesting ways. Yep, he can definitely get all misty-eyed, quite emotive, and a tad sentimental, but it's usually about either about intensely personal or incredibly idiosyncratic things.

Backtracking, we both have minor (OK, sometimes major) emotional security issues, and can have bouts of jealousy individually arise at no fault of the other. He, in particular, will play out in his head myriad scenarios, dwelling upon them and letting them build unless he in one form or another releases the energy built by them (I, on the other hand, have an intense, gutteral reaction to triggers).
We've discovered that both of our "episodes" can be worked through by talking through our emotions with the other, and, if we're quick enough on our feet, by expressing our fears in a non-accusatory manner before much has had the chance to accumulate.

Oh, P.S. Mars is also his chart co-ruler (he's a Scorp Asc, like me).

Oh Boy,

Mars in Pisces in the 12th.

At times, I uncharacteristically snap at you, for no reason. Wolf in sheeps clothing- Aries sun.

I also have been told that I walk softly but carry a big stick.

I'm an eighth house mars and I consider it my strongest placement. I constantly feel it's energy. Mars is a singleton for me, my only planet in earth (virgo). Would that be an explanation for why it's so strong? It's squared my sun-merc-nept in sag and "technically" trined my venus (28' virgo and 2' aqua). Thoughts?

Sadly true... this is why I can't truly relax. My Pisces Rising wants to take it easy and get along well with people, but my Virgo Mars opposes it and wants to make everything perfect. The competitive part says, "I can do it better than you!" Pisces always says, "Oh come on... don't be so tense..."

Too much oppositions energy makes for my bipolarity...

Thanks, Pire,

I have Mars in 12th house, and it is a placement that puzzles me a lot, especially since mars is conjunct ASC (2 degre) and conjunct Neptune in the 1st house (5 degrees).

Seems to be a heavy Martian-Neptunian theme, and that with two energies that are so different from each other.

well, i use whole sign house system, but i believe you use placidus, right?

to me whole sign is may be simplistic nowaday, but i find it just logical.

and in this case, you end up with a loaded 1st house. and lots of sag influence too.

DD, i'd like to talk with you by email, would it be possible? i don't want to elaborate here, it is personal matter.

if you agree, drop me a line on this address please

Pire,

I am constantly struggling to make a decision which housesystem to use. From a theoretical point of view I like equal best and also see the merits of whole sign houses, even though I prefer equal.

But somehow I always end up using Placidus again.
I probably just like my Venus being ruler of 5th house too much.

But I admit, Mars as ruler of 5th house conjunct Neptune somehow makes sense, too.

It is hard to discern, if Mars belongs into 1st or 12th house for me, since he is conjunct ASC and at the same time conjunct Neptune. Both fit.

I am certainly not the typical Mars-in-1st-person; not too impulsive and not too aggressive.
Yet, if I find someone to act out Neptune for me or even a field that is Neptunian (like helping other people, dreams, creativity), I feel that I very much own my own Mars.
Actually my brother once told me that I was being pretty argumentative, whenever someone touches the foundation of what I believe in.
It was completely new for me, but I guess he has a point there.

He must know, he has ASC and Sun in Pisces and Venus-Mars-conjunction in Aries. It`s probably easy to spot this in other people, too.

EDIT:
Oh I forgot the most important thing again: just wanted to say that I have sent t he mail.

i am mars in 6th. i find it plays out pretty much according to expectations...whatever the actual job, i have to have a way of making it mean something in terms of helping others, or moving perceptions of the whole along a bit, right now i am a massage therapist and have just done a couple of years as the admin person where i have worked...which was very much about holding it all together for everyone not just the company...and healing fits mars in 6 to a T of course!

when i was in the music business part of the whole appeal for me was opening the biz up to females and making it more accepted for girls/women to be taken seriously as musicians...

and i think taking care of family also resonates with mars in 6.

it is in cancer so the nurturing part is triggered too! i was reminded by an old bandmate recently that a) the rehearsals were in MY house and b) i was the one who was always making cups of tea and making sure the equipment worked...

but i have no problem with people who work little or not at all...just as long as they do what they SAY they are going to, that's the bottom line.

I have mars in Capricorn and in 2nd and I still don't agree with the description. I am good at handling money (especially someone else's), one of the reasons why I work in an accountant's office I assume. I'm equally good at acquiring it so that's one point for the description

I already do concentrate on getting value for my money (you should hear me talk sometimes: "is that really worth the money? Do you really need an LCD tv while ours is still good enough? Shouldn't you start saving? Turn off the lights, it costs money!")

I am planning of one day starting my own business but I'm taking it slow for now. No rush, I don't want to lose all my meticulously acquired wealth. So one point again for the description!

But then a major downer... Success is certainly not spelled "money" in my book. In fact, money is the last thing on my mind where success is concerned. I'm not attached to my possessions, unless it's my computer, my musical instruments, my books and my cd's. Everything else is nice to have, but I didn't miss it when I didn't have it... The above things represent who I am so it's natural to be attached to them. I know, I know... it sounds like typical mars in 2 "you're attached to them because you feel they represent you" - The books I'm attached to because I had to sell far too many books and their absence makes it hard for me to research. The CD's are a result of a previous experience where I lost my massive collection of songs because my computer broke down and I went mad without my music. At least now I have back ups My musical instruments speak for themselves: without them it would be hard to practice making music, wouldn't it? And my computer stores all my stories and I don't want to lose them again...

In fact, the entire description of mars in 2 sounds very much like my boyfriend... and he has mars in 8. He spends money like no tomorrow, can't handle it, can't save money. His idea of success is spelled with money, he lives large: needs a big tv, a nice car, a big place, everything is an extension of his personality. The bigger and more luxurious, the better. While I just have my books, cd's, computer (which he uses more than I do ) and musical instruments. And I'm fine with them.

Maybe it's one of my aspects, or a heavier influence of something else that makes me less materialistic... Because I'd have thought with mars in 2nd and Capricorn, which is set on climbing up in society, that description would count doubly for me.
