When one type of aspect- conjunctions, sextiles, trines, squares, oppositions, or inconjuncts-is more in evidence than any other, the nature of th predominant aspect becomes a character trait.

For example, a predominance of conjunctions indicate a strong, self-aware, action oriented person. A predominance of sextiles indicates a friendly, communicative person with strong intellectual traits. A predominance of squares indicates an ambitious, career oriented person who is faced with continual crisis situations in professional, political, and family affairs and a series of obstacles to be surmounted. A predominance of trines indicates harmonious self expression in creative, artistic pursuits and in educational, religious, and philosophical affairs, as well as an ease in constructive efforts to implement personal desires and ideas, in the culteral context. A prdominance of oppositions indicates a continual concern with relationships and with the resolution of interpersonal difficulties. A predominance of inconjuncts indicates a need for constant improvement and regeneration of existing conditions

The conjunction is related to Aries or the natural first house;therefore, it concerns the expression of self awareness and power through action.

The sextile,(60 degrees) partakes to the intellectual nature of the air signs. There is a particularly strong Mercury influence with the sextile aspect. It is concerned with communication and with ideas, especially the intuiting and organization of ideas. IT IS AN ASPECT OF OPPORTUNITY because of the awareness of alternatives for life expression that it provides. If this awareness is utilized in a practicle way, the oppertunity can be fulfilled in terms of goals and objectives.

The square aspect (90 degrees) indicates the need to overcome the negative habit tendencies of the past. It also shows the drive to achieve professional sucess and status. This can be accomplished by overcoming obsticals through discipline, organization and hard work. Energy and action are required to achieve ambitions. Psychological habit patterns based on past experience and family and culteral conditions are important factors in the formation of psychological patterns, and these must be dealt with in order for the limitation of past conditioning to be overcome. Therefore, the square REPRESENTS THE UPHILL CLIMB.

The trine aspect (120 degrees) has enthusiastic self-expressive, expansive qualities. A trine does not always produce the beneficial effect inherent in it. It must be acted upon by exerting the will of a higher rung of expression.

The opposition (180 degrees) It is primarily an aspect of relationships. It indicates the positive qualities of companionship and complimentary points of view. It has the reputation of being malific. It indicates that discipline, justice, and fair play must be emphasized if relationships are to produce positive results. Once a degree of maturity has been developed, the qualities of love, beauty and companionship become part of the expression of the opposition aspect. The opposition REQUIRES EITHER COOPERATION OR SEPERATION.The planets involved, represent opposingpsychological drives which must be brought into harmony before balance and happiness can be achieved. Only through awareness of the need for balance and cooperation can justice be served and progress be made.

The inconjunct, a minor aspect (150 degrees) often brings about the termination of old conditions in preperation of a new start. It demands constant improvement and regeneration of existing conditions. It is concerned with health, work and detailed methodologies. OFTEN, THE INCONJUNCT BRINGS ABOUT A SITUATION WHERE ONE IS STYMIED BY CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND ONES PERSONAL CONTROL.

Learn this, get the feel of it,it must become second nature when delineating charts.
What aspects are predominate in your chart? list them.

I have a few quick questions...
Aren't inconjunctions also called quincux?

I was also wondering what about other aspects such as the semi-square, semi-sextile, and sesquisquare (I hope I spelled that right)...are these aspects just as important? I have a few of them, and I was not sure to list them or not.

Thanks a bunch in an advance!

Oceanic Dreams,
Yes, the inconjunct and quincunx are the same at 150 degrees. I included this in the aspects but this belongs with minor aspects, which I will be doing a piece on today.
This aspect is both hard and easy. Its half way between a trine and an opposition. Sometimes an aspect of circumstance. It can show areas you have no control over. Like the life you're born into. Free will allows us to choose our own paths once we get old enough.

With the sesquisquare (thats a hard one to pronounce) the way I recognise this one is a trine plus 15.
example: Saturn 1 degree Capricorn and Venus at 16 Taures. To put Venus at 1 Taures is to make the trine but add 15 to that is the sesquisquare.

My conjunctions:

sun/mars
sun/asc
mars/neptune

My trines:

venus/pluto
mars/saturn
saturn/neptune

My squares:

moon/merc
merc/pluto
venus/uranus

My sextiles:

sun/moon
moon/mars
moon/saturn
moon/neptune
moon/asc
merc/uranus
venus/neptune
mars/pluto
saturn/pluto
neptune/pluto

My quincuxes:

sun/jupiter
moon/jupiter
merc/saturn

So I have three of each except the sextiles, of which I have 10, and no oppositions. What I find interesting about this is that you said

quote:
A prdominance of oppositions indicates a continual concern with relationships and with the resolution of interpersonal difficulties.
about the oppositions, and these are my primary drives... could the absence of the oppositions make these drives more dominant? I haven't looked at any angles besides my asc... maybe I'll check that out.

Future Uncertain

You have an opposition with Venus/Saturn

but lacking oppositions would mean that your lessons in this life are more of a compromising (square) nature instead of one based on making a choice (giving something up, one or the other) as with an opposition.

I have an equal amount of squares and trines (10)

Squares:
Moon/Venus
Moon/MC
Venus/Uranus
Venus/Chiron
Venus/AC
Mars/Saturn (ouch!)
Jupiter/Saturn (ouch! 0°orb)
Saturn/Chiron
Uranus/MC
Chiron/MC

Trines:
Sun/Pluto
Mercury/Uranus
Mercury/AC
Venus/Neptune
Venus/N.Node
Mars/Neptune
Mars/MC
Jupiter/Neptune
Neptune/MC
N.Node/MC

My MC gets a lot of hits, the square description fits like a glove "The Uphill Climb" re: job and profession, but I very much feel it is softened by all those trines. I do have to overcome lots of obstacles to do what I want to do (who doesn't!), but the enthusiasm and positiveness of the trines makes the squares seem like challenges that are fun/not too hard to overcome as opposed to being seen as insurmountable mountains. The squares benefit the trines, too, as they bring in the needed energy (square=energy) to activate the inherent qualities of the trines.
