Is there a house or aspects that are related to art? I feel like a lot of spiritual energy goes into creating a piece of music or a beautiful painting. I feel like this is not fifth house stuff, or is it?

Art is complicated and also depends on the "type" of art such as dance, music, painting, acting, etc. But here is some general information.

5th house rules creativity in general, but not necessarily inspiration and people can be inspired by very different things such as travel or movement or relationships so what inspires a choreographer to create a dance might be very different from what inspires someone to write a love song.

If the "art" takes a lot of manuel dexterity like playing an instrument, Mercury is probably involved along with Venus and Neptune. If it's being a great actor, look to the Moon and Neptune for being able to intuitively "get inside" a character to understand and project their emotions. If it's dance, there's probably Mars involved as well since that's such a physical art form. So you see, art is anything but simple!

And you're right about the spiritual aspects. Neptune seems to be a key player for many creative individuals and the aspects are just as likely to be "hard" aspects like squares, oppositions and conjunctions that are looking for an outlet for the "stressful" energies.

Here's an example from my own chart: I've got Mercury in my 5th house in trine to Mars in my 9th which squares my 6th house Venus which trines my 10th house Moon, which squares my 1st house Neptune. My 1st house ruler is Venus and my 6th house ruler is Neptune, so those planets are in "mutual reception". The squares give energy and the trines give it a way "out". So I like to perform on stage dancing, acting and/or singing. Notice how many planets and houses are involved, but the 10th house Moon in Leo makes my "art" public. A person who's art involves painting in private would be totally different.

it would depend on what art you mean to explore...? using traditional wheel and rulers, the 5th house (Leo/Sun) rules little pleasures, hobbies, and productive creativity (creative pursuits, for fun and entertainment). That includes a lot of different artistic styles and endeavors, but mostly from the production, hobby, and entertainment spectrum.

Then there is art collection, appreciation... this goes with 2nd house, (Taurus/Venus).

Literary arts, definitely owe themselves to Mercury's houses, (Virgo for exalt, Gemini for domicile), 3rd (and 6th).

There's art as a career (mainly, what brings home the bacon) and art as expression, the 6th house (Virgo/Mercury).

^ (this doesn't mean career = claim to fame, unless there are aspects/shared status with the MC... then art becomes something you/someone is recognized for publicly, course... lol)

And, art that is linked to creativity, art that serves a greater purpose, whatever it may be... which resonates with the 11th house (Aquarius/Uranus) ~ to be creatively inspired is very Uranian.

And, art with spirit, motion... deeper arts, the whimsical, the abstract... 12th house (Pisces/Neptune).

But, in your own chart you would look at both these traditional sign (cusps) and their rulers, as well as your own natal placements and aspects between them.

Still, as far as house goes, the 5th, 11th, 12th houses as well as the rulers for them are more significant.

You can't really not include the Moon and Jupiter though, perhaps not just in their natural sign or house, but their strength and aspects as an artist or enthusiast. Jupiter gives grand ideas, the moon governs emotions, and art is often emotional on one end or the other for someone involved. to be inspired, is Jupiter, Lunar... seeing these aspect to the house rulers in an artist's creativity households or dominance over them, is usually, a good indicator of that kind of potential. ^^;

I don't think they always indicate an ability, sometimes an innate talent maybe, untapped potential for a native. But, sometimes they do indicate an area of special appreciate for a certain art/field... If there are a lot of symbiotic aspects between them though, I think it is extremely likely there will be skills that person is easily more open to gaining, and a knack for artistic expression in those areas involved.

~ my greatest artistic talent is writing, it is an area where I have achieved recognition in the past, and an area I've developed more into. I'm a 5th house sun (Leo on the 12th), with mercury-neptune-jupiter, where mercury rules asc/mc, and the aspect of a quintile (bQ), going between them and moon (9h/Taurus). So, I tend to appreciate historical art (4th house/heritage/ancestors), cultural arts (Taurus traditionally ruling 2nd in 9th house ruled by Sagittarius, expansive/cultural communication). My (5h) Sun and Moon trine exact, tapping into emotions, and expressing them are sometimes quite easy. I have a critical eye for performance arts/filmography. But, am much better suited with literature, where I can let my mind go free (Mercury-Jupiter Cap/Sag 4h). The subjects I enjoy writing on are a touch of science fiction/fantasy (Mercury-Neptune-Jupiter smooshed, and Aqua 6h Ura in Sag 4h cnj Venus ruler of Moon/9h/2h), and a greater bit historical fiction (nonfiction when I feel like drowning myself in research). lol

The only thing preventing me from publishing is a desperate sort of greed to keep my creations to myself. (Capricorn 5h, Scorpio 3h). I don't want to share these creations, "my babies". Saturn is opp Moon, stifling expression a bit, and semisquare Mercury (which it rules, so there are a lot of self doubts that get in the way...

Saturn, as my sun's ruler, will likely hold me back until later in my life, when Saturn quindecile MC will get me to put everything out there all at once, no doubt. I'm in no hurry. ^^; Just keep everything organized for my son, in case the unfortunate happens before that time. lol Then, he can do what he wants with everything. ^^;

But, antique appraisal, film critiquing, and even makeup artistry, fashion design... can all come from the influences of key areas in a chart... but, it seems to be up to looking through the whole chart, and the aspects, the strengths given between them that really tell where we can focus or should focus/develop our secret talents. ^^; It's not really there, in one house though, I believe.
