I've barely gotten into Vedic myself. Slow and sure.

Left an url I just found that may answer some of your questions.

The Hindus really break down time periods in a person's life. Those time periods, break down into finer time periods.

Have you ever seen a Western Deconate Wheel? and the tiny further sections that those can break down into too?

(Not exactly sure but) I think the Vedics have "Rulers" (including a mix of rulers) OVER those periods of a person's life.
