Will being immortal make us happy? Heaven is a word for eternal happiness. Not dying is a pretty good reason to be cheerful.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

I think that if one can have access the spirit world and still be alive then this is a blessing, and being physically immortal means also that. I also believe that the physically immortals lead the most harmonious and happy life that can be lived upon Earth.IP: Logged |

Are there so few immortals, immortals to be and failing immortals (me) to discuss the subject? IP: Logged |

Can someone live in heaven when others don't? What do you think? And how do you define heaven upon earth?IP: Logged |

Hey Randall, you are one of the few people to get that right. Ayelet, I don't usually ask questions to which I already know the answers, however the question is clearer if you realize that heaven and earth are not "places" in a geographical sense. ------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

I was refering to "heaven upon earth", which means living blissfuly on this planet. I was asking whether one can be content in his\her life without aiding those who suffer on the same plane. I think that if one does not serve his fellow humans and\or animals in some way, one is doomed to suffer as well. Being immortal also means that one has to serve, otherwise one will decay. By saying this I do not mean that mortals are free from service. One cannot live without serving. But being physically immortal does not mean just to enjoy the flesh, or even the spirit. It is a responsibility, as every true knowledge supplies means to serve others. So, if one is selfish then one cannot be immortal or experience joy, heaven upon earth. IP: Logged |

Ayelet.I encounter this argument again and again among spiritual people. True enlightenment comes when you give up thinking you can help another person. Help yourself and another may be helped thereby, That is the most you can do.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

One who helps another helps oneself Try to eat with your hand instead of using it to put food into your mouth. We are all part of the one. Of course, by helping someone you don't do for him\her what s\he has to do. IP: Logged |

Everyone is divine. Everyone is entitled for love. According to christianity, one should love even one's enemies. I believe in that. The idea of compassion for all appears also in buddhism. A mother (ideally) loves her offspring no matter what. I may love someone, while another may not love that person. Is my love objective? Is there a person who is loved by all, since s\he is worthy of such love, objectively? I think not.IP: Logged |

We can descibe hell accurately because that is where we live. We know less about the layout of heaven, but that is not necessarily paved with good intentions towards anybody but ourselves. For example: I may give a beggar some money to go away and leave me in peace and in doing so I make two people happy, myself and the beggar. If I give the beggar money, with no thought for myself, I have no way of knowing if I made anybody happy: the beggar may be working for a gangmaster and not receive the money.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

Edit. I disagree with you on the intention's part, but I think the deed is the most important, the final outcome. But the intention also has its weight. It is the inner realm. And at last it manifests.IP: Logged |

I think I was wrong by implying that the deed was more important than the intention. IP: Logged |

I do not want unselfish friends. Friends expect you to be like them and I do not want to disregard myself. I want my friends to be good and selfish, because then, I know they will stay alive and be there when I want them.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

It is a good equilibrium to be surrounded by your own kind, though there are surely exceptions to this "law". I am in the middle; not entirely selfish, not entirely selfless. I am Suspecting I am more the former than the latter, which thing makes me discontented. My friends have good intentions, and none is entirely selfish as much as I can tell. I think the less self-centered a peraon is, the more s/he is a good listener. You may like that, Mak, then you may not. IP: Logged |
