This is an awful subject but I saw this on CNN this morning and it's bothering me so much I can't sleep. Some sick ba****d or a group of them are killing and mutilating cats in Colorado and Utah. The details are too disturbing to describe but they have killed fourty (40!) cats so far. These cats are people's pets. CNN and their phorensic psychiatrist are calling this a Serial Cat Killer. Sounds to me more like a bunch of medievel twisted neanderthals practicing black magic! The penalities for deliberately hurting or killing an animal are so pathetic. Animal abusers should be treated the same way as child abusers. I am so angry right now if I was in Colorado or Utah I would probably be hunting this person or these people down and taking justice into my own hands. Please pray for all the animals and send protection their way. If you want more details here are some links to articles, but please be warned! they are very disturbing and not for the faint of heart. http://www.macon.com/mld/macon/news/nation/6131530.htm http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E53%257E1455059,00.html http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/1829590/detail.html http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/Central/07/01/cat.mutilations.ap/index.html When I read things like this it makes me ashamed to be part of the human race.

SOOOO MUCH LIGHT & LOVE Thank you for letting us know about this Heidi. Also, I meant to post this earlier: There is an organization called Hearts United for Animals and they rescue puppies form puppymills and take in cats and dogs who for whatever reason are not adopted after rescue or cannot be adopted for social reasons and the like. They really need all the help that they can get. And the information on this site is not for the faint of heart either. I cried the first time I saw the pictures and information that they have there but we CAN help it to not be so. Their website is http://hua.org/

Hello Juniperb,Spanky is wonderful. He's gained 3 pounds! As soon as he's healthy and handsome again I'm going to post a picture of him. The reason I'm not involved with PETA or the other organizations is the fact that I am not a vegetarian (any more.) Not only that, due to the fact that I ride and work with horses, I have a lot of leather products. (I tried using the synthetic ones but they just don't ride the way a nice leather saddle does and unfortunately synthetic tack is just not acceptable at a horse show.) So anyway, I like to practice what I preach and I would feel like a hypocrite if I got involved with PETA. I don't feel that I have the right to. Am I making sense? Heidi IP: Logged |

I understand what you mean too Heidi. If you have an extra buck or two, send it their way. That way you can still make a dif. without compromising yours-elf . Wow, three lbs is a lot for a kitty. Go Spanky juniperb IP: Logged |

i share your feelings. there is nothing on this earth i love more than animals, and cats have a special place in my heart. it disgusts me that humans could do this. i remember in stanley park in vancouver near where i live, some people were killing the geese, the peacocks, and the flamingos in the park. i think there were flamingos... but anyway a lot of these beautiful birds were being mutilated. it made me sick. i have done a lot of things for animals, like once protesting the whales in captivity at the aquarium. lately i havent done much, because of my life... one day id like that to change though. they DEFINITELY need our help, theres awful things going on every day like experimentation, and vivisection... so many horrors. i have done a lot of study into criminology and forensics, and the experts in criminal psychology say that this is one indication of a serial killer. there is a 'triad' of indicators that often start a killer on their awful path. these include killing of animals in cruel ways, wetting the bed, and setting fires. theres been lots of research done into this. thats probably why they have so many experts involved in this case, cause it could lead to the killing of humans. *sigh* its so awful what a sad thread thank you for letting us know, cause it reminded me that i can even do thing from home for the animals. things like online petitions, i know they are out there so im gonna do that soon. i would just die if anything happened to my little kitty i keep him indoors cause its an apt... and that isnt such a bad thing, i think. btw i just read the cnn one, and i want to say GOOD ON YOU COLORADO!!!!!!!! in response to this: quote: The Colorado penalty for aggravated cruelty to animals is up to 18 months in jail and a $100,000 fine.
that still isnt enough, i think anyone who kills or hurts an animal deserves the same sentence as one who hurts a person... BUT colorado has the highest penalty ive ever heard of. people wouldnt get jail time here if they got caught hurting animals i dont think so anyway. last i heard it was a fine and probations IP: Logged |

Hi Guys,Silverbells ... I am a double Cap. Juniperb, I started looking up cat rescues on the web and I found there are a lot of them quite near me. I think I would rather do some hands on volunteer work than send money. My only fear is that I will end up wanting to take them all home. Anafaery, My personal feelings are that all cats should be indoor cats unless you can provide a safe outdoor environment, such as a farm or a house far away from traffic. I'll never understand these people who live on main roads that allow their cats to run around out doors. When I see a cat on the road and I'm in my car, I nearly have heart failure ... every single time. I hope they catch whoever is doing this very soon. If anyone hears any new information about this case, will you please share it with me. Love and Light, Heidi IP: Logged |

Yup Heidi, thats why theres five cats on my sofa this a.m. and four dogs underfoot. It`s like, whats just one more..... I have been very fortunate and found loving souls like yours that help and most I help along, get adopted. Our local rescue is called 'P.A.W.S'. and 'A Little Help from Our Friends'. Wonderful nonprofit orgs that helps adopt out and I foster 'mom' for it. Every critter from birds to burros to iguanas. ( I personally don`t take reptiles tho as I`m not comfortable with them) I know helping the four leggeds will fill your soul with pleasure juniperb IP: Logged |

Oh Juniperb, I haven't even started yet and I already found a cat I think I want to adopt! I knew I would be in trouble, but this poor kitty is older and no one wants her , but she's the same age as my Spanky and Petra so she would fit in perfectly. How could you say no to a face like this? Heidi IP: Logged |

In some states Animal Cruelty is a Felony. It is believed that to hurt an animal will lead to hurting a human. I subscribe to that belief because if one can torture and kill a defenseless creature like an animal, then one would also have no problem hurting a child or adult human.I am not part of PETA or the Animal Liberation front, soley because I do believe in eating meat and leather product. I do not, believe in killing animals only for their teeth, fur or for some sicko ritual. I would also have no problem seriously hurting a human that I caught killing, hurting or torturing an animal. I feel so strongly about it that it makes me sick. Even seeing animals dead on the side of the road tears at my soul. My chubby cats are all rescues. I even donated some to friends and family from my time as an ER Vet Tech. That is one of the drawbacks, you see alot of pain and you adopt ALOT of animals. LOL....well, actually, they adopted me. My cats are not allowed outside either. They were both hit by a car when they were brought in. I do let them sit out on the balcony when I am home so that they can see the outside and hear the birds. Hurray! Yes and today is my new kittie's birthday, she is a Cancer. I hope she can get on well with two Aries cats. Pidua, I really admire you for being able to work as an ER Vet Tech. It takes a special kind of person to do that. I would have been crying my eyes out all the time. You must be a very strong human being. It's too bad that they can't pass legislation to make animal cruelty a Felony in all states. Love and Light, Heidi IP: Logged |

Heidi, Thank you very much for the compliment. It was hard work, but I felt such a strong pull to do it, even when it broke my heart at times. I worked for 2 separate ER places, one in CA for 4 years and the other in PDX for a year. I would have stayed longer at the second one, but I moved back to CA and took a job for a Veterinary Diagnostic lab. The burn out rate is high but it can be so rewarding. My favorite story is about this big orange and white cat. He looked just like my Sydney. I had adopted Syd about 4 years prior when we had rehabed him from a day old. He was covered with maggot eggs and abandoned. One of the techs I was training nursed him back to health and gave him to me when he was about 4 weeks old. He threw a clot and died instantly one afternoon as I was getting ready for work (at the PDX ER hospital). I was crushed. I took some time off and when I went back to work there was Syndney's twin, in ICR, all hooked up to fluids and in a coma. The owner and her little girl kept talking to him and crying. The cat had been dipped in Defend, a dog dip, and was almost dead. They were going to give him one more night or they would have to euthanize him. That night I sat with him and talked to him until the am. When I left he was already moving one of his little toes. When I came on for my next shift, they said the owners would be in that evening to say goodbye. My heart sank and I felt that I was losing Sydney all over again. When I saw the owner, I approached her. I said, please don't euthanize him. I will pay the remainder of his bill if you will sign him over to me because I believe that he will pull through. He moved his toe last night and I think he's going to wake up. She believed me and decided to give him another night. She told the vet, if your tech feels so strongly, then I think she might be right. By the end of that shift, he was moving and opened his eyes. They said the next morning he was almost totally normal and they were able to transfer him over to his regular vet and the little girl was so happy. My eyes still well up with tears when I think of that cat and my Sydney. It is so hard to lose our little friends. IP: Logged |
