My tolerance for superficiality has reached a breaking point. I'm sure anyone with strong scorpio will get me on this rant.

American society is completely and utterly based on appearance. Not just attractivity, but status as well. Big cars, jewelry, bling bling, plastic surgery. We are disgusting! I find my own mind constantly thinking about the way I look, the way others look, who is good looking who is not, and its really really horrible. I know that humans are very visul creatures, but we are also very spiritual as well. It disgusts me when i think how ugly someone is automatically. I know you guys do it to!! Then i catch myself and wonder why I think such awful things.

THe bottom line is that appearances aren't all that important, and everyone GETS this, and everyone SAYS this, but no one really ACTS it. However deep we try to be, we are still hung up on the way people look and the way we look. Society has indoctrinated us to be this way, to spend our money on looking good, and to constantly worry about appearances. Somtimes I feel like shaving my head and wearing bags, but all I can bring myself to do is wear ****** clothes and not comb my hair.

Why can't we get over our superficiality?
End rant

I agree with you. The whole thing is ridiculous. People are looking for happiness in the wrong things. It's like walking up to the top of a huge mountain to ask some wise old man what the meaning of life is. These matters are found in everyday events not cars or money or jewelry etc. It also causes people to feel greed or hatred for eachother because they are "less fortunate" others. I think it may be masking important things that we are meant to see in people. What if we couldn't see people we were meant to meet due to the blindness caused by these things and what they mean to society. If it went on like that for long enough, there could be a massive build up of karma between people because it would just keep building up. That would be horrible if that was the case.Honestly I have always been drawn to "unattractive" guys. I don't think they are. (and oh well if thats what society thought because I got some cute kids.)

I feel ya Blue. You should see the looks on some peoples faces when I tell them that I dont care if I never get rich, not really interested in expensive cars and jewelry, and I am happy with the way I look even though Im overweight.

I was reading about the Monterey Pop Festival that went on back in June of 1967 and I really couldnt believe what I was reading. Traffic was really bad but instead of getting angry and road rage, people got out of their cars and had friendly convo and exchanged flowers until they could move their car again. All different kinds of people getting along and celebrating eachother. Its amazing...you rarely see anything like that nowdays.

Hey BR, have you watched Shrek and Shrek 2? This rant reminds me of those movies for some reason. May be I'm just trying to find the humor and love in this? Dunno. Good luck though

Why were you thinking of me when you wrote it?

What happened? Uck.. I will psychically send it to you. Rest assured, it had me thinking.. maybe I will be perceived better by unenlightened people if I stop putting on mascara, or caring about my appearance.. why be questioned when you put forth effort into looking good for a party? Someone attacks your perception, based upon a glance. All of a sudden, bacause I care about my appearance, I am conceited, because I have that elusive confidence, I am vain.....based upon someone looking at me and judging me, though they know nothing of my self worth or spiritual pursuits, how much I care for people, or how I look in the morning, or beat myself up for being normal...... how I help people to look their best, but befoe I start on the outer shell, I always ask about the inner one.... because that is the one which means the most.
I am so tired of hearing people judge me, and saying "They don't know what they are talking about, they don't know me, I won't let it affect me', when really, that's all I can think about, I feel sad and all I want to do is sit down, talk to them and finsd out why they perceive me so stupidly... I want to fix it.
Then I have this other situation based upon my appearance, and I finally brought it to light, because it has caused mnmy husband and I much anguish... unwanted come-ons from a guy who says he is my friend but won't take no for an answer, and with all my effing pomp and harsh words, I am still, at the end of the day, drawn to looking at people on the bright side, and seeing the good in them, so giving them a chance to prove my initial ickiness wrong...... when it is not wrong!!!! It is not.
I am not beautiful!!!
If they only effing knew!!!!!
I clean up well and I know how to make the best of my features.. but are you kidding me? The world is full of beautiful people, and there are those who put way too much emphasis on it.. who cares. When I am wrinkly and holding my husbands hand with my arthritic ass in a rocker, he will look over and see my inner beauty, and know he was here to cultivate it, and treat it with a special and tender love.

I knOw now. It has to do with Neptune and Pisces energy. Neptune is the planet of illusions, ESP, empathy, the arts and other mysterious subconscious subjects. Pisces is the horoscope sign of the fishes, swimming in opposite directions . . .

Pixie it sounds like someone was jealous or in a bad mood. I think people with scorpio influence tend to take everything personally, which I have a serious problem with. Your feelings are completely valid, people are completely obvlivious to other people's feelings, but lately I just chock it up to their ignorance and try not to snap back at them.

Yesterday I was at a computer lounge and a leo girlfriend came and sat next to me, she had an extremely bright computer wallpaper, and I said ooh is it gonna give me an orgasm? ANd she said no, only for sexy guys, at which i laughed. She said she meant "straight" guys, but still, bleh. Its just everywhere, the superficiality, and its in my head just as much as everywhere else, and its killin me.

Perhaps its is netpune, but its also pluto, which rules deeper significance and the breaking down of appearances. Not suprisingly i have transiting pluto conj my neptune right now....

*******MMMMMMMEEEEE TTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOO******
oh,.... and my Venus.. for some time now.. but they are in the same sign/house as.. not exactly conjunct anymore.... also trining my Leo rising.
I also hate taking things personally.. Not all things.. I find, if I can see it from their point of view.. or understand the psychological drive behind it ( so Scorpio, I know.. like textbook!!!)then I can see it with more shades of grey.
But my esteem is taking beatings.
just brutal!!! I spent yesterday crying.

I relate with what you guys are saying. I hope the Shrek comments didn't offend b/c I relate to Shrek and Donkey, as funny and sweet as they are, they got judged by how they looked by their peers. It's pretty much the same being a mixed race person - I look more Asian than Italian when I am with people who are white, but then when I am with people who are Asian, I look obviously mixed. So people relate to me differently either way. I used to get angry a lot when I was younger, and studied more in depth at the University level about race relations.

And then, oh the "pretty face," "exotic," "broadiness" comments that come after they get over the Asian thing. This is a whole different story, but not too much variance in the end.

I don't know, I mean, I think it's also a biological thing. Men are programmed to look for females that look youthful (ie, beautiful/sexy), so that they can bear children. Women look for men who can support them (ie being rich/having a fab car). It's just all to varying degrees. But I don't know, I think anyone who rants that looks aren't everything is kidding themselves, because unless you're legally blind, looks are going to factor in the way you think. Yes, they shouldn't be taken literally and seriously, but still.

Superficiality frustrates me so much. I do care about my looks and I can't change that. I like putting make-up on, dressing up sometimes etc, and my step dad always pays me out about being in love with mirrors which BTW I'm nottttt lol. I've had a couple of debates about this with my Libra bf, you gotta love Libras. So I came to the conclusion that I mainly like doing this because I like making things look nice, including myself. If I had a white sheet of paper infront of me I'd get an urge to draw something nice on it. When I wake up in the morning and see my face in the mirror, i feel like putting make-up on for the same reason, because I enjoy making things look nice. And I also get the urge to give people make-overs sometimes, just to see what they'd look like. I'd like to run a make-over show actually, or a house renovation show, or interior design...they're kinda on the same level to me, because I look at it as making things aestitically pleasing whether they're a house or a person. So I'd like to do this, in the name of arts because I love arts, but at the same time i'd never try to change someone's looks, clothes, house, back-yard lol. As long as THEY're happy with it...that's what counts

One thing I really dislike though is people who closely follow fashion trends. There's at least 2 major fashion trends here for both girls and guys and its just strange. They dress and act exactly THE same. I swear it's like I'm meeting the same people over and over again sometimes. I don't like that clone concept.

On the other hand though, when it comes to caring about other people's looks I can honestly say (and i really hope no one thinks I'm getting on a moral high ground, though I'm pretty sure I'm gona get criticzed for this next paragraph by people thinking I'm a hypocrite but I'm only being honest) I never have nor would I ever judge someone based on their looks or treat them any different based on looks/nationality etc. I would not care in the slightest if a person is good looking or not. Their personality and the way they treat me are the only things that would ever matter to me. I wouldn't even care if they had a deffect or some kind of anomaly physical or mental(which is another thing people seem to run away from). For instance, i was watching something about two twins conjoined at the head, the other day and - yes - they looked unusual, but it would make absolutely no difference to me. I thought they were actually very brave to face up to every day life the way they do.

One of the reasons when I first came to this site I was ditching Leo guys (and I'm sorry to have done that now), but all of the leo guys i had met were very looks-centered and very obssessed with their looks. I've realised since then, that it's really not a star sign thing as much as it is a "self-centered individual" syndrome. It bothers me when someone is under the impression they are any better than the next person due to looks or possesions and also when they think girls/guys would fall at their feet due to their looks (or possesions), because personally i couldn't care less if you're the next Brad Pitt and own half the world - if you don't have the personality good luck to you

PS I'm really soz to rant and rant about this but i feel very strongly about the subject and I have to say to this

quote:
Women look for men who can support them (ie being rich/having a fab car)

I find this the absolute most pathetic thing a girl could do. Date a guy not only because of his looks but also because of his material assets. Personaly I'd want to get my own assets and the type of girl who would have a relationship with someone for their money etc. really makes me I mean if my aries side is hidden at any other time (because I do have a lot of earth and water in my chart) this kinda thing deffinetly brings out the Aries in me..

I hope this last comment wasn't sexist, because I'd feel the exact same way about a man marrying or dating or even just be-friending someone for their looks and finances (and not because they're in love)..

and speaking of love -

on a lighter note .. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY to Pixelpixie (you're hillarious), Aphrodite, Blueroamer, Everlong..can't remember who else posted but chocolates and roses to all of you

PPS wat is it with me an PS's lol .. I'm soz if this post comes of as aggressive to anyone and hopefully I haven't offended anyone

*edit* I can't believe I'm adding something to this post...Blue soz I think I just took up your whole thread

I just wanna say (and Everlong this isn't directed at you at all, just people in general) I am soooo sick of stereotyping. Women this, Men that.. There's so many different women and men in the world. We are not only divided in star signs and diff birth charts, but we also have a different upbringing and just DIFF lives. Some girls like other girls, some guys like other guys. Some girls go for the rich guy, some girls go for love, some girls become nuns and don't go for anyone at all. Some men love pizza, some men love icecream and other men love chips. I think if psychology concentrated more on people's differences than their similarities, it'd be a lot more helpful a subject.

So that's that *stops herself from adding to this* do I get an award for the longest most boring post in history?

Yes, yes, arieschick, we're all people, but I was looking at it from a biological/evolutionary view. And from that perspective, men are men, and women are women. Sure, we shouldn't put people under categorizations/labels/stereotypes, but instinctfully, even if you have to dig deep, everyone has certain intrinsic traits of their gender.

I agree that everyone has certain traits of their gender, but I don't think these traits are pronounced enough in every individual case to really make assumptions on them. And precisely from an evolutionary and biological point of view, I thought the above traits you listed were outdated somewhat IMO (not totally, because there still are men and women who want exactly that, but there's also men and women who don't at all).

I actually agree with most of what's been said on this thread and I agree with most of what Blueroamer said, because like I said I also fervently dislike superficiality in our society. What I didn't like was..

quote:
It disgusts me when i think how ugly someone is automatically. I know you guys do it to!!

because NO I do NOT do it and I don't like having someone's particular opinion shuved down my throat...

quote:
However deep we try to be, we are still hung up on the way people look and the way we look. Society has indoctrinated us to be this way

Yes. society has indoctrinated us this way, I wholeheartedly agree.. but again you're kinda using we, in a this is how "WE" are. I'm NOT hung up at all on how people look. I do care about my own looks.. so I'm not saying I don't have the superficial bone in me, but I deffinetly don't care when it comes to other people. I know other people who also don't care. I also know tones who DO.

lol and you were saying Scorps take things personally. I took those two things personaly which is basically why the massive rant ...but sorry for the rant again

Sorry aries chick I just dont' believe you that you don't care how other people look. Would you date an ugly man, someone who wore rags? Someone who was incredibly obese? What have your past boyfriends looked like? I think your assertion that you don't care about others appearances is complete ******** . You may THINK this is how you think but its not. Your mind subconsciously processes visual stimulus without your awareness. You ARE judging them, you may just, in typical arian obliviousness, not be aware of it. Sorry to through you in with the rest of us "mortals," but you're human too.

Now.. blueroamer.. I know we've spent the thread trying not to label etc....
But in terms of your friend saying "Only sexy guys, blah blah blah...." and then qualifying it with "I meant straight"
Believe her. I am not in the habit of lying, and I assume that pic you posted ( and where did it go) way long ago , is you....
You are sexy. Good looking, sexy, beautiful eyes.
So shut up already.
oh yeah.............. but don't agree with me, it just makes you conceited

You can choose to believe it or not. That is totally up to you and there is absolutely NO way I can prove something like this to you. All I can say is I am being honest and all of the answers to your q's would be YES. BTW I didn't mean "oh how dare you throw me in with all you mortals? lol. I don't at all believe I'm the only person who doesn't care. Like I said, I know other people who don't care, admitedly there aren't many... I just don't like the idea that you're throwing everyone in the same pot..

*edit* My mind does process visual stimulus, but it doesn't judge and discriminate on this basis. I think my mind uses the visual function to interpret body language not to pick apart the faults in the body itself.
