tee hee >^_^<

lol i put this in the health forum, doh :P anyway here it is

so i said in another thread that id post some stuff i wrote about my kitty. it was on another forum awhile ago, but theres SO many kitty lovers here that i wanna share it! so this is a paste, as i am so tired to retype it all, but i spose its ok to do it this way. i mean im not plagerizing myself, but i feel like i should reform it but i know you will all understand. so here goes

merlin

i had to give him a bath last night, i think i have the only cat in creation that will stand in a bath without fighting, lol! its not the bath that bothers him, its the being wet for hours afterward. i dont blame him. he actually likes the bath part. my cat is... like my child i also havent had anything good for him to eat lately too, its been just dry food. he expects me to share my meals with him, its so cute! he gets all excited and then patiently waits for me to give him a portion, we are such buddies. lately though ive only been eating cheese sandwiches, no meat, and he doesnt like them so hes been feeling out of sorts. like a child, he doesnt understand that mommy cant afford meat, lol! he is just a treasure *sigh*

we got the kitty when my husband was here. he was special from the get go, he was SO trusting of us. he was tiny and just latched onto us, he could sense we were his protectors.

anyway one night my husband was going to take a bath. the kitty needed a bath (for some reason i cant remember) too, so i said to my husband 'get your shorts on, i have an idea'. i know that cats cant stand water, we all do. but i had this idea, because i knew that kitty trusted us, we are very much his 'parents'. so my husband got the shorts on, got in the tub, and we first put merlin on his tummy. he was so curious about the water, he used to play in the tub with a ball we put in there for him, but he had never seen it with water in it. gradually we put him in the water, and he was fine. it was a new experience for him, but it wasnt a scary one, we were both there, and his daddy was right in the tub with him! lol we sound like the WIERDEST PEOPLE!!!! LOL!!! but it worked miracles! he was standing on my husbands tummy, and james gradually sunk deeper into the tub, and eventually he sat up and merlin was standing in the water on his own. it was so cute, and funny! we were able to wash him and he stood there and did not move for us. to this day he is the same. even last night, without my husband, he was the bestest boy. i would be curious to know my cats moon sign, lol! or whatever sign relates to adoptive mother, lol. i am crazy and proud of it! i guess you cant rectify a cats chart, hmm? LOL!!

anyway yea, thats my beautiful kitty... he is so unique and such a 'person'. he has conversations with me. he will go outside, then run up to me at the computer, and meow for like, a full 5 minutes. i meow back to him, i have no idea what we are talking about, but its all good i think hes telling me about his day, what he saw out there, lol. he also brings me in leaves from the balcony, lol!. he is a dear... he doesnt think he is a cat and i am a human, we are both just people. i think that other cats would respond that way too, if they were treated as an equal. most people i know who have cats treat them as another household item, not to say they dont love them, but their cat isnt the focus of their lives, lol! just kinda like an accessory heh, nothing beyond an occasional little pat once in awhile. its ok, cats are independant, they just like a good meal and a clean catbox, but i am sure glad i raise my kitties like i do. its so rewarding. ive had lots of cats, most of them died but ive always been so tender to them, and all animals. anyone hurts an animal, and my sag and aries come out IN FULL FORCE. the only way i could see me ever hurting anyone on purpose, physically, is if i see an animal (or a child) being abused. i would be a force to be reckoned with.

somebodys got to stick up for the vulnerable ones, right?

and then this in my next reply was...

before i go to relax i had to add this lol!

when my husband left for the states, merlin was really confused. he had no idea where daddy went, and why he wasnt coming back. the string game they used to play together, well he would lay where the string was and look so sadly up at me, so i had to try but i have to admit i couldnt do it as well as my husband. i felt so bad for him heh.

anyway he slept on the bed with me as usual, however in a heartbeat, he would sit up with his ears perked and his tail wagging in that way that cats do when they feel a fight coming on, and then run out into the living room to the balcony. hed come back after a minute or two. i didnt know what he was doing, then i realized! he was hearing noises outside, and he was investigating, to protect me! i saw it more after too, any noise in the hallway of this apt building, any time anyone came to the door, he would be there in a flash with this body language that just SCREAMED dont you dare touch my mommy or ill eff you up!!! lol!!! oh that cat... he is hilarious and a constant joy. its so funny though, if an intruder broke in here, what would he do, scratch his knees to death? lol! i think i would end up being the one to protect him, but dont tell him that *wink*

i have since heard that cats go for the face. smart, no doubt about it.

i hope you enjoy, and post your cat pics and stories!

*hugs*

That was so beautiful, I really love cats but the dander gives me asthma real bad. May I ask why your husband left? I was just wondering since he sounded so sweet with your kitten.

Awww how precious I'm getting all warm and fuzzy...

I don't think of my cat as just a cat either. I think of her as another soul, like me, but in a cat's body. She has a personality, she misses me when I'm gone and when I come back she's really happy to see me, sometimes even starts drooling (eww). She likes to rub her forehead against mine - actually she rubs her forehead against anything. I just don't get how people can be like you described, treating cats as just an accessory, occasionally giving them milk but never even touching them. What's the point of having them, then? My neighbor did that, before she got rid of her cats. She was always sweeping her driveway, cigarette in mouth, telling her cats things like "Bahh what do you want?" "I'm NOT in the mood" "Go away!"

I can't stand bullies! Recently there was this big black cat that went around terrorizing every single cat in the neighborhood - He'd stare them down until they submitted, and even then, he'd just stand there staring at them, as if to say "I OWN this place, and I can kick your A**!" The cats would back down and finally he'd move on to his next victim. That cat was really insecure!!! When he was done proving his superiority to those cats, he headed over to my house one night and my kitty saw him coming and got scared. Well I sprayed him with a hose and he went running. I haven't seen him around lately

By the way, I don't think you can tell in the picture I posted, but my kitty has three normal legs and one stump. She was born like that - I remember her mom died while giving birth and there was a huge hole in her stomach. The rest of the kittens died and she survived with that minor defect. She's about 11 years old now. She's our miracle kitty

Bark-translator plans gadget for cat

The Japanese manufacturers of a gadget that claims to translate dogs barks into human language is planning a similar device for cats.

After selling 300,000 Bowlingual units, Takara is set to release the Meowlingual.

The cat-shaped machine set to go on sale in November and translates meows and purrs into human phrases, although exact wording hasn't been decided yet.

The translation device will likely sell for £45, slightly cheaper than the $75 Bowlingual, which has been a big hit.

Both gadgets use scientific data on animal sounds from a Tokyo laboratory that also analyses human voices, helps solve crime and takes part in designing software for mobile phones.

Takara plans to start selling Bowlingual in the United States in August. Overseas sales plans for Meowlingual are still undecided.

"Cats are smaller and more finicky than dogs so we had to change the design a little," Takara spokeswoman Maiko Hasumi said.

The feline version won't strap on the collar as does the Bowlingual, and a person must hold the microphone in the machine up to the cat's mouth and hope it says something, she said.

In case your cat's not in the mood, the machine will have "playful features," such as a horoscope reading for cat lovers and other surprises in the works, she said.

Takara is planning to sell 300,000 Meowlingual machines by March 2004.

My cat Wisdom is the little light of my life, and we are such friends. In recent months I've been trying to picture certain things at him while I explain it; I swear he understands better, even if he still goes ahead and does what _he_ wants!

He's mostly white with grey and beige patches, and has these incredible blue eyes -- he's big, and gorgeous, I do know that he's a Libra kitty, and he is such a Libra, in looks and temperament. He's sweet, and talkative, and wants to be involved in what we're doing, but if for one moment he thinks you're being unfair (imagines we've pushed him off the sofa, when in fact he's just rolled too far and fallen off!), then he'll absolutely let you know with blazing eyes and a WHAP! of the paw, or bite! (Although that could be his ScorpVenus! ) We don't know his exact birthday to the day -- he was an abandoned kitty, and friends found him when he was 3 weeks old, starving in a field. He had these long white eyelashes framing his squinty little baby blue eyes -- he just looked and acted like a little old man who'd seen it all, and the name "Wisdom" popped into my head a few hours after we'd met. He must be a quarter or 1/8 Siamese, with those eyes, that particular colour of beige, and his long body and tail. He's as neurotic as anything, however, and while I thought it might have been his upbringing (lots of roomates coming and going while he was young), many people have reassured me that he indeed has the neurotic personality of an abandoned cat. I give him Bach Flower remedies sometimes and that helps for his nervousness. As complicated as it can sometimes get, I wouldn't trade him for the world.

Here's one of his habits -- compulsive string/thread eater. This is in fact a genetic predisposition in some cats -- we can't have anything in the house that has fringes or strings, and I had to get rid of my terrycloth bathrobe because I discovered Wisdom was pulling out loops with his claws then chewing the threads. Can't have loosely woven blankets, etc. We keep some catgrass (oat grass) for him to chew instead! Not a big sacrifice, but people think I'm nuts when I explain that the cat once shredded and ate most of the boxspring cover under then bed, or that I had to re-hem a skirt because the cat pulled it down to eat the threads, or how much money we spent after kitty ate a needle and thread and had to have it surgically removed!! (yours truly keeps a _very_ close watch on such things ever since, and has a _very_ secure sewing basket)

All I can say is that he came into my life and heart when I needed him the most. I was so stressed out and addicted to work that I had forgotten how to play, and maybe to love. Wisdom taught me so much, and continues to teach me, about simple good happy love.

One of these days I'll get his photo up with the Knowflake pets!

cheers,
Lunargirl

This is a cute idea; a thread for our kitties!

I've had cats since I was 10 years old and can't imagine life without at least one around. Last year we lost our cat Herbie (a stray who showed up on my doorstep 20 years ago!) who turned out to be THE MOST LOVING CAT I'd ever known. Affectionate, always looking for a lap to cuddle on. When we'd pet him he'd respond with equal pressure against the hand...purring, DROOLING, with an expression on his beautiful face that can only be described as blissful. He followed us around, came to us when called by name, and of course involved himself in whatever we were doing, lol. I don't know what sign he was since he was a stray, but based on his size when he showed up and the time of year he appeared, along with his behavior...he was either Aqua with lots of Pisces or the other way around. He truly loved everybody...any visitor we had was also treated to his "lap visits". I also remember reading somewhere that Piscean cats were so affectionate they could be called "velcro cats"...an apt description of Herbie. So Aqua or Pisces, I'm pretty sure. Anyway...he began slowing down around the age of 18, gradually...until last year when he seemed to be uncomfortable all the time (we'd taken him to the vet previously, of course) and finally we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. He was here before my daughters were born so he was the only cat they'd ever known, and losing him was devastating. A few days later we went to the Human Society to adopt another kitty and were blessed to find a tiny kitten who we named Arthur.

This post has already become pretty long, so I will continue with stories about Arthur and how we're convinced that Herbie is still with us, in an upcoming one. It's nice sharing about our furry friends...what a gift they are!

Lunargirl, that map of the cat brain is a riot!!

I just wanted to add, that I have a sneaking suspicion that cats are extraterrestrials.

If there's any species on earth that could be, it's felis domesticus.

They get my vote!

A Kitty's Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep.
I sleep right in the center groove
My human cannot hardly move!

I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight.
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude,
Till morning comes and "I want food!"

I sneak up slowly to begin
my nibbles on my human's chin.
She wakes up quickly,
I have sharp teeth - and my claws I will unsheath
For the morning is here and it's time to play.
I always seems to get my way

So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs me and holds me tight
And sacrifices her bed at night!
