I just had my ear pierced at the top in the cartillage and wondered if anyone else had had any problems with theirs.

getting it done was alright- pretty sore but i didnt moan too much (did feel compelled to say OWW to the guy at one point) but after a few days it started to get all red and sore and swollen. i had to go to the doctor and he gave me some anti-biotics and basically said "take it out now you stupid girl" but i tried and i couldnt. i went back to the place i got it done and they said it would be best to leave it in and use salty hot water to get it to swell down a bit.

its better now- not exactly the same as my other ear but much better than it was. just wondered it this had happened to anyone else and if they're ok now cos im a bit worried my ear will go all freaky.

thank you

I've had it done-best to clean with hydrogen peroxide. and after some weeks when you change the post, you might want to use some neosporin or something to that effect.

I've had my ears pieced several times, but I only put earrings in two of the holes now-pretty standard.

I had my ears pierced when I was a little girl (my mom did it at home with a needle). I don't remember having any problems with them. When I got older I had one ear pierced another time and the other ear pierced 3 more times.

ALL the piercings I had done I had to eventually take out because they hurt badly. I cleaned them properly, tried not to sleep on them, etc. But after a month they would still 'pulse' all the time and really hurt so I had to take them out

Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) might also help, and slightly relieve the swelling. You could always put a bit of ice in a clean cloth, and ice it, 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off.

My daughter had her upper ear peirced when she was 11, and she had nothing but problems. I think hair products were irritating it, as well as hair brushes, when she would accidently brush too close to her ear.
I think you have to have super short hair, and not use any hairspray, etc, and keep shampoo and stuff well away from it all the time. If you can't do short hair, you have to wash your hair in a leaning back sort of position. And avoid metal posts. Use the polysterene plastic ones, cuz they're flexible and absolutely non-irritating.
She had to let hers grow in as well, but she wants to have it done again. Stubborn Bull.

Geez, that sounds painful. I have double piercing in my lobes, but cheat and use the magnet earings for the cartlige. My friend even uses the little ones for her nose. My lobes burnt like fire when it was done & no more for me

Hi ash, I just saw this post. I got my ear pierced in the cartillage and I took it out cause it was too tight or something I don't know. Anyway when I took it out it healed but I got a keloid and had to go to the dermatoligist to get it removed. Yep.

Ouch that does hurt. I had my upper ear done about 18 years and I had no end of problems with it, it looked really cool but the earring had to come out because of all the pain. I tried to keep it in but sleeping with a painful ear is horrible. I stopped wearing earrings in my lobes for some unknown reason but 5 years later I started wearing them again and they got infected and now the holes are closed. I won't be getting them done again. My daughter for her 7th birthday wanted her ears done and boy did she get a fright and they got infected and we had to let them close. She can wait till she is older and doesn't live with me anymore!!! (she is a Taurus, stubborn as a bull)

It never ceases to amaze me how the medical society can be so blind, I have heard this same thing before from others. See, anytime anyones gets a piercing if anything does no go according to plan, the Medical doctors will say to take it out. Doing that is not the best thing, it will create the ideal situation for an abscess. and this is almost a gaurunteed way to get it infected. if you talk to the people whi did the piercing, I would follow their advice, as believe it or not, they know more about it than the doctors in most casses, if it does not get better soon, then follow the doctor's advise, if you want to see what I meen here is a link to what an abscess is: http://www.molokosynthemesc.com/risks.exe?cmd=risk&whichone=Abscess

I hope this helps.
