hello there everyoneMy grandma has just moved down to us and is living in an old aged home. she is 84.Yesterday was the 1st time I went to visit her in her new home. Her room is small, only consisting of a bedroom and a bathroom. Afterwards, when I got home I thought about how a person goes through life paying off their home and enjoying the home life with everything they hoped for and also raising a family in the house. Then you hit an age when you get shoved into a small room to live out the rest of your days in "comfort".You wonder why life is like that.BUT on the other hand, I suppose when you are 84, you just want a small room where you dont have to move around too often. oh how life plays itself out hey? Some societies highly regard the elderly - viewing them as wise - they are cared for by their younger family members. In general, our society views the elderly as unproductive. We will all be viewed that way some day.IP: Logged |

Sometimes I get real upset at the suffering people have to go thru in life. It can be hard, just KNOWING that people are suffering is awful I think. Sometimes it's downright depressing. All I can do is hope to bring a smile to people's faces and try to bring light. Because I know sometimes when I've got it real tough, nothing makes me happier than one of my fellow human beings reaching out and touching me ------------------ Namaste! IP: Logged |

i know many people who dont want to reach an old age, its sad that we fear it, when we should enjoy looking back and remanicing on all that we have accomplished and really enjoy those golden years. i am lucky enough not to see my grandparents in a home as yet, but they are deteriorating... and many hard decisions for a family to make are looming. i guess what ever happens we just have to be there for our loved ones, listen to them, respect them and make there golden years beautiful im lucky enough to have a grandfather who started skiing at age 70 and is still skiing at 83 moondreamer kisses. jax IP: Logged |

Moondreamer, thats a painful subject. I equate 'most' old age home as death zones . I love and admire the elderly. They have so much experience and wisdom to help us along. My belief rests in the nuclear family and them caring for their own parents, grandparents et al. They gave their lives to us and the circle should not be broken. The elderly have as much right to a fullfilling life, being productive, loved and respected as we wish to be. My family is so blessed to have been able to have our loved ones at home thru old age, terminal illness`s and the life altering experiences it brings about. I champion the 'right to die at home'. I realize this isn`t feasable for all and I do understand the homes purpose. Just my thoughts stemming from personal experience. juniperb ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |
