Just curious to ask who here considers themselves introverted? I am to a certain extent. I have a need to be completely alone for periods of time. I recollect earlier in the month when I was in meetings everyday at work for a week. When Friday came, my date took me out to eat at a really loud restaurant. He meant well. Being in those surroundings when I am tired makes become very quiet and I can't wait to leave to go home and lay down on the sofa . . .

Thoughts?

i am becoming more and more introverted recently i think. sometimes i think i can understand why emily dickinson holed herself up away from the world. sometimes id just rather communicate with everyone via email. i dont know why.
i just really like my alone time.

When you become sensitive you dislike constantly being bombarded with other people's energy.

When I was a kid I was very shy. I've out grown that but I'm still very much an introvert.

For most of my life I thought I was introverted, and though I do need time to myself regularly, I discovered that I mistook shyness caused by insecurity and lack of confidance for introversion. I came to find out I'm actually extremely extroverted and social. I do need an enormous amount of sleep though - not sure if that counts as "retreating from the world" in the way an introvert needs to LOL. It is a drag actually.

A demanding schedule like weeklong meetings, not to mention just the general energy of city life on top of that is bound to cause a bit of frazzle. You're in SF right?

Hope you at least got a nice, long, hot bath that weekend.

I have always been on the most part introverted.

There are times that I like being out doing different things and around a lot of people then for long periods I retreat to quiet. Seems I have to do this or things get overwhelming for me. I need the time and space to think and get my bearings.

My husband is the complete opposite of me in this respect. He is an extrovert who has to be on the go most of the time and would talk to a stump if it could listen. But he respects my need to withdraw from the world at times and understands it.

Hi, fellow introverts!

I'm very introverted. I make up for it by talking too much online...

Haha Johnny

Is retreat a sign of sensitivity? I've heard it been said before, as I know I am very sensitive deep down. However I am still making observations of the people around me and haven't come to that conclusion. The word retreat itself seems cowardly, and I definitely know people who make private time for themselves whom I would not describe as cowardly at all.

Hi Isis, yes I still live in SF. The office I work in now is in a very busy part of town and a block away from a freeway overpass. I almost got ran over by a bicyclist this morning while crossing the street on a green light. What a ding dong. Are you still in the Bay Area?
