I tried it for the first time the other night after doing some thinking about the state that most of society is in where they always want to be connected and never want to have to just sit in silence and think.
I personally like thinking in silence, but I've never tried sitting and NOT thinking about anything to the degree of meditation. lol It was an interesting experience for me, by body sort of went numb like right after you wake up and your body isn't responding to your brain.

What are your experiences with meditation?
Do you like it, do it often? Just curious.
Hope everyone is doing well today!

This is my biggest problem, I can not shut my mind from thinking.
I wish I could do this.
Then again I haven't really tried hard.
Also I find it kind of contradicting, some say that by shutting off from teh rest of the world you find your higher self, but once you find your higher self what do you do? you stare at it? LOL or do you tak to it?
wouldn't talking to it bring you back to thinking????????

Totally confused over here<---------

I'm not sure, honestly... but I think the main point of it is to shed all of the meaningless burdens and worries you have, to stop thinking about them for a while and see how unimportant they are. You find your higher self by finding that you are above all of the meaningless junk you've been thinking and worrying about. What's really important becomes more clear. I think it's kind of a relaxation thing to make you forget about stupid things that don't matter.
That's my theory anyway!

I've been meditating every morning for years. And I still struggle to quiet my mind. It wants desparately to get up and busy with the new day. Meditating at night doesn't work for me either. I fall asleep!

But here's the deal. When I AM able to get centered and aligned, it's fabulous. And everyone has to experience their own Center. I don't think it would do any good to try and describe my experience. I don't even know if I could find words to describe it anyway.

Whether you choose to continue trying is up to you. All I can share is that I'm glad I persisted. For me, it's worth the effort.

I try to do it often, but I get easily sidetracked. My loss I suppose.

When I do it, I can't silence my mind. It's too hard, I need loads of practice. Tho I did read a "tip" about meditating...you gotta pay attention to that moment between thoughts. Like when one thought ends, before the next one pops up, there's "nothing" in the middle. I guess with practice that "nothing" grows and grows until you think of "nothing" I dunno why I find that funny.

I'm aiming for that...tho right now those "nothings" last about a nanosecond

LOL

Then I am way far from it because sometimes I have thoughts over thoughts, I can be thinking about one thing and all of the sudden I am in another subject I started while thinking about something else.

LOL

Hi BoE

Maybe meditation has different outcomes for each individual.

Sometimes I meditate on something, a problem that needs solving, an emotion I would like to understand, for example its origins; and sometimes I meditate to cleanse myself, to purge out something I feel unclean, and sometimes to get a certain feeling.

I have found that with years practice it has become easier.

the results i get are as follows:

1) I sometimes feel a deep sense of love and a connectivity to everything, as if I can actually feel that I am the universe.

2) Sometimes I get the feeling that I understand the universe, that feelign when everything makes sense, even though when I get out of that space I can not articulate, in words what I felt.

3) Sometimes I feel as if I have been sleeping, but consciously doing so the same way you described, as if I have just woken up from a deep sleep.

4) Sometimes, depending on which methos I used at the time, I feel either shocks of energy or electricity either entering my body or leaving it.

5) then sometimes I feel nothing, as if I had just closed my eyes with nothing out of body happening to me, and this is when I suspect that i had not been focusing well enough.

One time I meditated and i felt physical pain afterwards. It went away after a few days. it felt like cramps, muscles were tight and I was stiff.

It is obvious that I have no idea what I am doing. I just experiment and hope for a result, and some are fun and some aren't.

Hi again, B-of-E! I was thinking about you this morning as I was going into the silence.

I thought of a couple of things that have helped me that you might experiment with.

A gentle smile during meditation puts my facial muscles into a harmonious position somehow. Do you suppose that's why Buddha is so often shown smiling?

Busy thoughts always seem to emanate from the front of the brain. So when I try to keep my attention focused on the back of my head, it's easier to still my mind. Recently I also read somewhere that alpha waves come from somewhere near the base of the skull. So that would make sense!

Unmoved,

Hmm....I wouldn't mind having that feeling! I feel there is no good reason for suffering in this world; I am tormented by this feeling every day of my life.
A lot of things make sense to me, but one thing that doesn't....is the existence of the extremity of suffering.

But Unity....yes.
I feel very much that I understand Unity. I often feel attuned to this when I'm in active meditation (I rarely ever meditate in the classic way, though I am going to try and do it more). I feel Oneness especially around nature or when listening to music.

------------------
It would be nice to evolve some sort of telepathy of the heart; empathy. A feeling, knowing inside how we are all interconnected. Empathy/ love would be a a law in itself.
