I have three sisters and one brother. I'm second.

My parents had two sets of kids. They had my older sister and me, waited seven years, and had three more.

I'm mostly a middle child of course, but I might have little elements of first born and baby. First born, because I'm the oldest male and because of the first set of kids I have been more present with the younger siblings than my older sister was. Baby of the family because I was the baby for seven years until the new crop took my crown.

Since all of us astrology people are really into psychology, this is really interesting to look in to.

Older brothers of sisters make good directors and are comfortable in the company of women. The best match for an older brother is a younger sister. But you can also get along with older sisters, provided you realize that you'll both want to be in control.

Younger brothers of sisters, such as Jude Law, are excellent actors.

I was the second child but then when I was three my brother was killed in a road accident.
Then I was an only child for eight years.
And then my sister was born so I was the oldest.
So I have experienced it all.

Me and three younger brothers. Isn't great being the only girl (cheap childcare labour). Then my brothers grew up, ran off with partners, and forget everything I ever did for them. I may as well be an only child!!

Bunnies - you certainly have experienced it all - love to you

So, that means at least one of my brothers would make a brilliant actor!!

I know which one that would be - my youngest. He's the funniest guy around - very entertaining and makes people laugh at the drop of a hat!!

One died at birth, a brother before me...so I guess that makes me the eldest of 10 kids not counting him which would have been 11.

Koi,

my youngest brother is exactly as you described yours.
He has such an entertaining talent, even though he would never want to make professional use of it.

But I remember when he was in Chorus in a musical in school, he was ONLY part of the chorus, and yet he managed to draw the attention of the audience towards him and away from the leading actors. lol (The next performance the teacher hid him deeply in the background to prevent that).
It`s not that he really intended to do that, it is just a talent of his.
Well, he has Moon-Jupiter-Uranus conjunct in Sagittarius, Venus-Mars-conjunction in Aries, Sun-ASC-conjunction in Pisces, I think that sais it all, especially that Moon-Jupiter-Uranus (which also happens to fall onto my True Node, Neptune and ASC. lol)

Do that.

The synastry between my brother and me is just UNBELIEVABLE:

He has Sun and ASC in PIsces with the ruler Jupiter and Neptune in Sagittarius;
I have Sun and ASC in SAg, with the ruler Jupiter in Pisces.

His Sun conjunct my Jupiter and Juno
His Moon conjunct my Neptune, True Node and ASC
His Mercury conjunct my Lilith
his Mars conjunct my IC
his Jupiter conjunct my Neptune, True Node and ASC
his Saturn conjunct my Uranus
his Uranus conjunct my Neptune, True Node and ASC
his Neptune conjunct my Sun and Mercury
his Pluto conjunct my Union and Uranus
his Valentine conjunct my DSC and SN
his MC conjunct my Sun and Mercury

And those are only the conjunctions. lol

Poor guy, though; he`s having quite a difficult time with Transit Pluto conjunct his Neptune and SN.
Hey I never noticed that before!
He has Neptune on his SN, while I have Neptune on my NN!

I'm the youngest of three girls. I wouldn't recommend it, although we all claim we have it the hardest. Here are the bozos:
Middle, eldest, moi.

Don't we all look delightful. I seem to think circles go with stripes and that was before the alcohol. My mum can't cope with us. All she wants is a "nice" picture of her girls. No chance dude.

In my romantic relationships they've all been youngest children too. Does this happen to others?

From AG's links:

Youngest Child
Behaves like only child.
Yes, I'd say that was sort of true.

Feels every one bigger and more capable
They actually are bigger than me. I'm 5ft5, they are all 5ft 11 and above. It doesn't help. My feet are size 5. Theirs are size 9.

Expects others to do things, make decisions, take responsibility
I don't expect it but they do it anyway. I feel a bit powerless sometimes. I have plans made for me. Hacks me off big style.

Feels smallest and weakest. May not be taken seriously
No way am I taken seriously. Example: my long-term relationships are just me "dating" and nobody bats an eyelid if they end. I lived with someone 5 years once. Nobody said much when it went down the pan. I was quite upset. My eldest sister went out with someone for 4 months and it was like a total crisis when they split up. People drove 300 miles to console her. I'm like WTF? But I am a bit of a brat so that might be brattishness talking. The eldest would say that was true.

Becomes boss of family in getting service and own way
No way, the opposite I'd say.

Develops feelings of inferiority or becomes "speeder" and overtakes older siblings
Yes. This is very true. Stopped doing that now though, I realised the pattern I'd set and it didn't help relationships between the others and me. I think I went to university only because the others hadn't (at that time - they went later)

Remains "The Baby." Places others in service
My mum calls me "The Baby". I get all sorts of unsolicited life advice from my sisters about "What You Should Do". There's only a 4-year difference between me and the eldest and her life's as much of a train-wreck as mine. I have stopped getting annoyed and now chuckle inwardly.

If youngest of three, often allies with oldest child against middle child
Yup. The middle one's entirely different from us two. The eldest and I like the same music and clothes. The middle is completely the opposite. Not intentionally singled out, but we are Librans, she is Cancer. Never could figure her out. Still can't.

Cool thread AG.

Eldest. I have a sister and two younger brothers.

Next incarnation I would love to be the youngest. My youngest brother, already 25 and working, only has to ask for any stuff and he gets it (new celphone, shoes, PSP, clothes, money, whatsit gadgets etc) from us three older siblings. Well, he is still lucky because no one's married yet.

I've seen another psychological survey that places eldest children as being like only children.

It depends on the family, the age gaps, the personality, in my view.

One thing annoys me is the Victorian relic that only children are self-centred and spoilt. That's rubbish. My Knight In Shining Armour is an only child. He would help me out any time, he's just a plain old-fashioned nice guy. My husband is one too, only child that is, so is my niece. They are both kind and generous.

The people in my extended family that cause the problems are the youngest ones from a large family who never got enough attention. They are still squabbling over it today and acting like spoilt children in their old age. Like I say, I think it is the set-up, the personalities, the particular circumstances. I don't doubt that other younger members of large families are charming and sweet. Just not these particular ones.

I am from a modern British family, youngest of two. Bog standard. I get along excellently with my brother, never had a problem. I don't expect him to baby me, why should he? He has enough babies in his house to be looking after, I can take care of myself and mine.

Blue,

One of the things I read yesterday was that in groups of arrested protestors (when protests get so out of control that arrests are made), there were a large amount of youngest born. They apparently are ok with railing against authority.

Interestingly for us in the U.S. media presence of Stephen Colbert, he's the youngest of 11. Perhaps that explains the sheer audacity he required to be so scathing [and funny] right to the President's face at the correspondent's dinner a couple years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSE_saVX_2A

With regard to single children, I read that their world is shaped by the fact that they are born into an adult world. They don't necessarily feel at ease with their peers when they're young, and may feel like they've finally made it when they reach adulthood. Sounds very Capricornian.

This has reminded me of a trip I made with a friend, to his brother's house. His brother plumped up his pillows and got hot water bottles out for his bed. Like he was a little boy. Sweet really, maybe. The family baby. Not that he's a baby, he's in his 50s. My uncle is a bit like this ~ we would all be dancing attendance if we let him get away with it.

The saga of the squabbling sisters ~ the are grey-haired old ladies arguing about who got given the most as children. Who did mother give more attention to 60 years ago? I have to referee this sh!t. The both got on fine with the older ones in the family.

Thinking about it what I've said above is quite revealing. If there is a problem, it is quite likely I will appeal to the help of a brotherly figure. My husband will just get on with it ~ an only one is used to having to cope alone. That's quite Capricorn, too, isn't it? Problem-solving, maybe a little self-contained. Also, dutiful. Who is going to take care of the parents? It's no-one else's problem.

Of course in reality, in large families, there is often one person who gets stuck in the caretaking role. Or as a friend of mine said, "what is the point of having all these brothers and sisters if I end up doing everything?" She was talking about looking after her elderly, and very ill, father.

quote:
The only child is automatically stigmatized. When asked to describe personality characteristics of an only child, many people will respond negatively, indicating the presupposition that only children are spoiled brats.

http://www.personalityresearch.org/papers/eischens2.html

My children had a set of books with a passage in it saying something like, 'he was spoiled and selfish because he didn't have any brothers and sisters.'

It made me very angry. What a horrible envious thing to put in a childrens book. Of course I was particulary annoyed because their father is an only one. It was like a personal insult, one that is unfair.
