Can't really tell from the picture.

Might be a Dock.

Yeah, I know that the picture isn't stellar.

I looked up Dock plant, and it's kind of hard to tell the difference, eh?

But I think that you might be right about that, looking at the shape of the leaves...

Can you use Dock the same way that you can plantain for medicinal purposes?

At a quick glance, I saw that Dock is good for foraging, what do you think? Are both edible/medicinal?

I know I'm delving a bit into Health and Healing, as well as Quirky Cuisine here, but...eh. Hard not to, when talking about plants.

Okay, confirmed by two other friends, it's apparently Dock. Good to know the difference, I suppose.

You need to properly identify anything, long before it gets anywhere near your mouth.

Dock doesn't look anything like plantain, they are distinctly dissimilar.

The Indians called it Yellow Puccoon, and used it to dye.

Really, Violets, you must learn the difference first.

I hadn't planned on eating it, but I'll certainly make sure that's what I have before I do, if I decide to try it.

Had planned on using it in an ointment.

I have a good friend who has backpacked across this region, and she knows her stuff. She did also say that it was Dock.

But I suppose I'll double-check with another friend as well.

Also, here is a better picture of a taller one.

I am assuming that they're the same plant, growing around in my yard and under trees, but perhaps not. The ones in the yard never get this tall, because we mow. But this one was all on its own under the trees.

I've read that there are numerous types of Dock, so maybe it depends on which type is being referenced?

Not sure, but I'll do some more research before I add it to my tincture.

Yep, that's Dock.

It has many uses, mostly the same.

Can't remember right off hand.

In all the books, though.

This is hard and a little scary. I figured out a few things from the internet.

Yay, thanks!

I realized later that I did mention something about foraging, so I suppose I was being unnecessarily contradictory when I said I hadn't planned on eating it...
Sorry.

I had forgotten that I'd said that (Saturn coming closer to squaring my Mercury again, hooray).

I wonder if there are many look-alike plants that can be mistaken for Dock? If I'm somewhere else (we are actually going ahead with the move to California, after painful and annoying deliberation), I definitely want to make sure that I'm not adding something else to a salve or tincture!
