(In particular, a Piscean Sun w/ a Scorpio Ascendant )

Hey ya'll -

I'm reading Greene's and Sasaportas' _The Luminaries_ right now (well, actually, I just got it and have been thumbing through it), and I have a quick question:

Greene talks about the Ascendant as the "development pattern", as "the guide who requires us to learn certain lessons or attributes to help us become what is symbolized by the sun" -
now what, in your opinions, would be the lessons or attributes required by a Scorpio Ascendant?

And, actually, if anyone has further input, what do ya'll think are those required of other Ascendants as well?

(I'm asking for your particular, individual opinions - not, "Well, in the book that you're reading..." or, "So-and-so says this, so..." I don't mean to be...well, I don't mean to be anything about that, but I can read what they think b/c it's floating around somewhere on the web or in print w/ an ISBN attached, but not what's in ya'll's respective heads. Unless you're Carlo.)

(Another Pisces sun Rising sign Scorpio)

My rising sign is probably trying to teach me how to govern those passions that erupt at the most inconvenient times. To be a better Pisces I should probably get more of a grip on the having no animosity towards people and being universally understanding...but as long as I have that'touch my family and those I love and you're dead meat' attitude ,I still have a ways to go, for whatever reason.
But I thought the ascendant was the social mask we wear...mine keeps people from knowing what a 'wooss'? I am. Like protective gear to ward off predators.

For my 2 cents on this take a look back on 20 Dec under "3 aspects of man". As far as the Scorpio Ascendant, I'm working on that for a book, and I'll get back to you.

Cool - thanks Lanny. I'll go back and look at that thread...and look out for your book when it's published

Fajita & brunnhilde - We Scorp Asc. are just crawling all over the place, aren't we?
It must be b/c we're such wonderful people - after all, LG was a Scorp Asc; so's Liz Greene, I think.

brunnhilde - Yep, I welcomed you on some thread. I couldn't be more happy to see another Pisces/Aqua Moon/Scorp Asc out there (b/c I'm one, too ). What degree is your Sun @?

Actually . . .

From various sources, LG was a Gemini rising with Mars in the first, possibly conjuncting her ascendant.

I, too have a Scorpio Ascendant, with an Aries Sun. My experience so far (but, heck, what do I know) has been that the "stinger" side of my personality helps temper the Martian impatience of the Ram side of my personality, giving me more "lamb-like" qualities. I think it also pulls me in when I trust a little too much for my own good. I'm a walking contradition. LOL.

I have a friend who is a Scorpio rising. Taurus sun in 7th house. She has been married several times (because of her sun) and just draws men in like flies. Being a Scorpio personality she is passionate about life and clearly has a dynamic sexual allure about her.

Yup, yep -
Kat - Being a Scorpio personality she is passionate
Yeah, this Scorp guy that I'm kind of seeing said to me, "There's this passion about you - you seem passionate about everything, and I don't see that around."
Lamb - I have the feeling that our Asc would in general tend to skew our perceptions suspicious, too.

I've had a bit of a difficult time sorting out where my Sun begins and my Asc ends (I guess b/c they're both water). I mean, there're aspects that are clearly Piscean or Scorpionic, but then it gets mergy.
For you Scorpio Ascs (except the Ram Suns - I guess just about anything else would seem to temper your assertiveness):
Do people perceive you as more aggressive and/or "powerful" then your Sun and other chart factors would otherwise indicate, or than you feel?
--- I'm attempting to figure out how much of such comments are due to my Scorpio Asc, or perhaps b/c of my 12th House Pluto - with my Fishy Sun - and/or 10th House Mars Conj. my MC and N.Node.
Prolly a combo of all of the above.
And b/f anyone says anything - yes, I know that chart factors don't "make" a person act in thisaway or thataway and that behavior isn't "because" of placements, it's just a lot easier than saying something like, "I'm investigating how much of my behavior/traits as expressed in or reflected in my chart, as placements are simply indications of one's soul state, blah blah blah yakity schmakity..."

HI!
Proxie...
My Pisces sun is 15 degrees and my Scorpio ascendant is 27 and some... degrees!!

I have said it (my ascendant) doesn't really reflect hte True me but then maybe I don't want the True me revealed to everyone...just the ones who matter. So in retrospect my ascendant in Scorpio is the part of me that exists more...socially?And yes although it's bothered me often I have used the effect of Scorpio 'aura' conscously....I can be aggressive, suspicious, very cold, reserved. I was violent in my youth and though no longer I sill feel taht emotion just beneath the surface.I've even been told that when I'm angry it,s like a radiation taht comes off my body...and I speak very carefully, act very carefully and speak very softly. It seems it's a good indication of the danger they're in.It's peculiar because I have never lost my temper...haven't in years and never in front of anyone.I usually close off and terminate whatever connection I have with what brought out my anger be it person or situation. It's over.It or they no longer exist. No ranting no raving just not here any more ...I have found it to be very efficient way of dealing with things.I have cut family members and friends out of my Life and never looked back...can't do that with close family though that's sacred!

Okay after reading this ...maybe you get an idea why nobody sees the fish in me right away.My Pluto is square my mars and Ascendant and Jupiter. Maybe that doesn't soften the ascendant effect?

brunnhilde -

If there were a little smiley that pointed to its nose and with one hand and outwards with the other, I'd post it right now.

I was violent in my youth and though no longer I sill feel taht emotion just beneath the surface
I was so violent as a child; it would just explode out.
I've used the Scorp aura consciously, too - because sometimes someone just really needs to be stared back down, or argued back into place when they say something mindnumbingly obtuse that I know is wrong. Maybe that means I'm not evolved - oh well.
And I'll just cut people out rather than needlessly extend a conflict. Just *whack* no feeling.
When I get really, really angry though (and this may be my 12th house Pluto, so I'd like to know if you have the same thing going on) I get completely calm. It's like all emotion evaporates, and all that's left is pure, clear, fast (and oddly strategic and sometimes nearly clairvoyant) thought. That also kicks in during crises. I'm usually, frankly, a fuzzy thinker, but as soon something suddenly happens my thought is squeezed and focused into clarity.

nobody...sees the fish in me right away
Exactly, because in my mind not everyone needs to see the fish in me - too many people, seeing genuine vulnerability in another - and I'm so painfully vulnerable once I let down my defenses -, will prey upon that. For me, it's almost like my Scorp Asc and Aqua Moon are the protective vangaurd for my Pisces Sun.
When I was in the Army, I remember one girl said, "Oh, you've got to be either an Aries or a Leo, maybe and aggessive Scorpio." But also, in Fishy fashion, I tend to meld to whatever environment that I'm in.

Proxieme I can be aggressive and also passive. I know that sounds really vague but I mean both to the fullest extent. And I know that isn't the greatest

Hey Proxy-
My brother is Scorpio Sun/Libra Moon/Pisces Asc. and he was very violent as a kid/teenager! Of course, our neighborhood was a otugh one, but he was constantly getting into fights...getting stitches left and right, breaking other people's ribs, lashing out all the time. He's much more tame now, but anyone who knows him knows he has a t-e-m-p-e-r. I thought that was interesting b/c he has the opposite of your Sun/Asc. combo and also has an Air Moon.

Hi!
Maybe it's all that water ADDED to the air moon---Aquarius or Libra---makes us react quickly and since water is emotional it's violent?'specially for Scorpios' its either balck or white. It's the speed of the reaction that is usually so surprising and I think an earth moon would have to build up more.WHat about the fire signs?dramatize it?other air signs would intellectuallize it?

Yeah - when I was younger my violent reactions where incredibly quick; they'd be done b/f I had time to react against them.
Just *snap* someone else was on the floor.
I got control of that by about the time I was 13 or 14. Now when I get angry, it rises up but just sits. It becomes a 3rd party in the situation - not necessarily doing anything, but palpable.
Whatever that energy is isn't all bad, though: a couple months ago I was at work when I looked out the window and saw an old lady with a cart begin to walk into the street - the lights weren't right, so she was going into cars. I only remember feeling my eyes widen and my body gear up, and then I was out there.
The energy's just got to be moved in the right direction by us, I guess.
