Would ya'll say that the following are a lot, a few, or about the median number of aspects to Neptune to have in a natal chart?:

*Sun SQUARE Neptune 0deg02'
*Saturn SQUARE Neptune 1deg04'
*Neptune SEXTILE Pluto 1deg30'
*Neptune TRINE Moon's N.Node 5'25
*Mars TRINE Neptune 6deg58'
(although the last 2 may or not be considered actual aspects, right?...and the Pluto one kinda cut a wide swath)

And, now that I'm here, may I ask the same question for the following Mars Aspects?:

*Mercury OPP Mars 9deg57'
*Mars CONJ Jupiter 3deg28'
*Mars SQ Uranus 4deg06'
*Mars TRINE Neptune 6deg58'
*Mars CONJ N.Node 1'deg32'

Thanks, b/c numerical run-downs are difficult to find,

I think that maybe your arcs are a little large. I'd say that the following aspects are active:

*Sun SQUARE Neptune 0deg02'
*Saturn SQUARE Neptune 1deg04'

*Mars CONJ Jupiter 3deg28'
*Mars SQ Uranus 4deg06'
*Mars CONJ N.Node 1'deg32'

I wouldn't consider these excessive by any means.

Would 5deg01' be too wide an arc? Would it make it in under the wire?

In an astrology class we were taught the following about the orbs:

square: 7 degrees
trine: 7 degrees
sextile: 5
conjunction or opposition: 8, unless it's with a Sun or Moon, then it's 10.

I think the general rule is that the stronger aspects (conj., opp., square and trine) have larger orbs than others.

Where are the more adept astrologers to enlighten us?

I think if you have a lot of aspects with a planet, it means that you have a lot of activity going on in the field represented by that planet. I don't know about the "normal" number of aspects in a chart. I think that really doesn't matter. It just means that your life is more focused on some things and less on others.

Do not worry Proxy my girl .
The object of my desire has 6 aspects (of which 4 personal planets) with Neptune and Neptune is one of his two singletons on top of it all!
I could eat him alive and drink his blood right now!
But you....you...

I use +/- 5 degrees except for the Sun and Moon which have +/- 10, and the Nodes which have +/- 2. These are just what I have used since I started. I also only use Sextile, Square, Square, Conjunct, and Opposite aspects.

Just my thoughts

Morgana & Lanny - Thank you for the exact run-downs for aspect orbs. I'll have to do more study b/f I decide which're right for me.

Mercy - Thanks I knew Neptune wasn't all bad...
although, I must say that it seems like Liz Greene considers it the devil incarnate.

Who says Neptune is bad?
Besides, everything can be good or bad.

Neptune: the pervadedness of all earthly things with the spiritual, the direct communication between the matter and the spirit. Subtlety, receptivity, evaporation, sublimation, fantasy, chaos, infinity...

The need to experience the metaphysical, the non-material, the need for sublimation and spritualizing all matter, escape from reality, the sense of infinity and freedom from the physical, material side of life, the need to erase the boudaries of space and time, intuition, subconscious perception, dreams, extreme physical and psychical sensitivity, the comprehension of other dimensions, the capacity for sympathy and universal love, aspiration for non-verbal communication (painting, music, dancing) and poetry, which touches our soul and unites us with eternity.

Hello everyone!
Morgana I agree and I have to say I read her book on Neptune as well a long time ago proxieme and have read many other negative interpretations as well and did not identify with them. I have Neptune conj my MC and I think for me it is a spiritual journey always seeking to know the Truth. Sure we all have our falls and bump our heads but I believe Neptune dissolves illusions and shows us the truth when we remember to follow our heart and listen to our soul!

Just my humble opinion!

Mystique,

I don't think it dissolves the illusion, but I do think it kinda envraps us in some higher knowledge we don't even realize it's there, but when we do, it's already in our soul. It can be an illusion or it can be the TRUTH, whichever you want to SEE, I think. That's the beauty of it. It's so subtle and unobtrusive and all-encompassing it really represents the universal spirit that is in all of us.
In my opinion it confirms the rule: if you believe, you will see - if you just open your eyes.

But this is probably the same thing you said, just in other words, right?

Yes Morgana,
I believe we are saying the same thing that is why I said Neptune dissolves illusions...when we open our eyes and really see. If we don't then what we see is the illusion. But Neptune wants to show us all the Truth, by dissolving the illusion.

Greetings...

In regard to the general question about orbs of aspect. I use an older system than you seem to which grants the ORB to the Planet and NOT the aspect. It's more like giving each planet its own Aura or "orb of influence" if you will. It is based on Ancient Astrology, but I find that it works well today also.

Each planet has it's own ORB, and as long as an aspect is within 1/2 of that orb on either side of a planet, they are considered to be in aspect.

Such that the Sun has an orb of 15 degrees. If a planet is within 7.5 degrees of the Sun before or after, the aspect would be in orb.

The Moon has an orb of 12 degrees, so an aspect would be in operation 6 degrees before or after the Moon's degree.

Mercury has a 7 degree orb, so an aspect could be made 3.5 degrees before or after Mercury's degree.

Venus and Mars also have a 7 degree orb, and therefore 3.5 degrees on either side of exact aspect.

Jupiter and Saturn are 9 degree orbs, so 4.5 degrees on either side.

Since the faster planets are always casting the aspects to the slower moving bodies, for the outers use the 1/2 orb of the faster planets. The Outer planets were not used in Classical Astrology, so their orbs have not been pinpointed. It would probably be safe to give them 6 degrees apiece so 3 degrees on either side could be considered within orb of aspect.

I know this is a different approach when modern astrology teaches that the ORB belongs to the Aspect, but try it for yourself and see which you prefer. I think Esoterically it makes more sense to give the PLANET the orb, as the planets are the actual PLAYERS. Make sense?

Blessings..

A

Neptune’s purpose in our life is to place you in a position where nothing is predictable in the area represented by the house energies and aspect to natal planets.

During Neptune’s transit the areas of your life become clouded by mists of fancies and self-delusion. It is extremely difficult to tell fact from fiction, or feel secure in your world view. Neptune works to dissolve all of the structures that you have put in place in your life. Confusion and illusions follow Neptune through the houses leaving the individual lost a feeling adrift in life.

What possible good could come from Neptune’s transit you might ask, when it causes you to question your sense of reality and the structure that you have set up to make your life manageable? In that question you have your answer. In order to grow and increase awareness, you have to question reality, or what you perceive to be reality.

The problem is that until a house transit is completed you are not able to see clearly enough to reshape your reality in that House’s energy area. About all that can done at any given time is to observe the abundant input of information without making a judgement on it being right or wrong.

During a house transit, your intuition will be much more reliable than your intellect in the area affected by the house. This is because your intellect works with facts and you will be unable to discern between facts and illusions at this time. You will be more sensitive to the area controlled by the house than any other time.

Your ego will have a hard time of it under Neptune’s transit, often leaving you lost, confused, and insecure about yourself and life.

The old adage “when in doubt, do nothing” should be your operating principle. Stay open, but make no decisions on the area of this house until that transit is over.

I don’t mean to make this planet’s transits seem like gloom and doom, they can bring about beautiful experiences to you. If you can live in virtual free-fall, you can be extremely creative. Just don’t bet the family farm or make major life moves on anything effected by the House being transited.

Like Uranus, Neptune only effects a few of our houses during our life. It takes 164 years to complete one cycle, and its doubtful that many of us will see more than 6 or 7 houses transited in a lifetime. It squares itself when we are approximately 42 years old, trines itself at around 56 years old, opposes itself when we are 84, and if we live long enough, trines again at 98 years old.

Just some thoughts
Lanny

Hi, Mystique!

Hi, Aselzion, long time no see!
To be honest, that never crossed my mind. It kinda makes sense, but I wouldn't know what to say just now, I have to think about it... So it's kinda like with fixed stars?

This part I don't quite understand:
"Since the faster planets are always casting the aspects to the slower moving bodies, for the outers use the 1/2 orb of the faster planets." Bacause then you say they each get a 6 degree orb, so this is not 1/2. Which part don't I understand correctly?

And one more question: Aren't the outer planets stronger in influence because they are so slow?

This reduces the number of aspects in one's chart. Do you find this to be more accurate when interpreting one's chart? Did you ever make a comparison of this to the modern ways of calculating aspects?
You probably have to do them on hand, right, because there aren't any programs that calculate aspects this way, or am I wrong?

Lanny,
"During a house transit, your intuition will be much more reliable than your intellect in the area affected by the house. This is because your intellect works with facts and you will be unable to discern between facts and illusions at this time." But if you trust your intuition, Neptune guides you in the right direction and you do see things clearly, just probably not how the rest of the world does, and what you see is often the TRUTH. It confuses those who only use their reason... Only my humble opinion...

Hey Morgana...

Ummm okay, one thing at a time.

When I say that thier orb is probably 6 degrees, then 1/2 of that would be 3 degrees on either side.

Classical astrology doesn't usually use the outer planets since they weren't discovered yet... so the way that I handle them is that if there is a close aspect to a very personal point (Sun, Moon, Mercury, ASC, MidHeaven, Asc Ruler or MC Ruler) then they will be very important. If there are no aspects to those planets or points, then probably their influence will be more generational and less personal. BUT they are ALWAYS indicative of personal stuff by HOUSE placement!

The PERSONAL points aspecting the OUTERS can show psychic sensitivity, magical or occult abilities, musical talent, intuition, inspiration, Gifts of the Spirit and etc, in addition to the more negative connotations such as abuse, psychosis, addiction, rape, perversion etc.

This is not to say that I don't think the outers are important... they sure are! But not so much unless they aspect the personal planets or points.(you can go ahead and add Venus and Mars to the above choices I already told you about!)

Actually Solar Fire chart calculation software will do orb by PLANET and not ASPECT... they have many features for Horary and Classical astrologers.
Hope that helps some!

Bright Blessings...

A

P.S. Morgana... you should check out the English Cabalah stuff in Universal Codes, you might find that of interest as well!

I apologize for veering off topic, but it's quick:

If my Sun (22°40'46 Pisces) were then trine my Uranus (25°29'47 Scorpio) and that Uranus were in my 1st House, would that make Uranian energy significantly more prominent in my make-up (or atleast in the way in which I appear to the world)...er more so than it otherwise would be by house position?

Oh, oh - another question: Would the fact that I have both Uranus and Neptune aspecting my Sun...no, wait, that didn't start right...
OK - My Pluto's then in my 12th House...it doesn't aspect anything, really (except my Neptune as noted above), but would the fact that the other esoteric-y outer planets aspect my Sun make those Plutonian energies in my psyche act up at all?
I don't know why it would, it just seems like it should, if that makes any sense at all.

Yeah, thanks, Aselzion, you answered all my questions (for now, haha).

I'll take a peak at your thread. I never felt any real connection to the jewish cabalah, so that's why... But see you there.

proxieme,
I hope someone who knows more astrology will answer your question, but what you said about Sun sheding light on your Uranus makes sense to me. And the fact alone that you have Pluto in your 12th house I think is enough for Plutonian energies to act up because you're a Pisces. I'm sorry, this doesn't come from my knowledge of astrology, I'm just speculating with what I do know... Hmmmm, anyone else want to comment?
