Hi Samarthrao.
I am a novice astrologer.
This is the chart of a person who is charismatic with an unusual or extreem outlook- a good leader, with an ability to move the masses and mold public opinion I would say this person is a spiritual leader.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Aum Tat Sat

Dear astrologers,

Its good many people know about this great Indian personality but the challenge was to ANALYSE the chart. Its k

Here are the extracts of an expert who studied his chart -- it all in VEdic astrology format -----

Sri Rama Krishna Paramhamsa, the spiritual guru of Swami Vivekananda, was a great saint to be born in modern India. In Bengal and in most parts of the country, he is very popularly known as ‘Thakur ji’ and I too would prefer to stick to this title of his in this article.

I have contemplated on this article for the inaugural issue of The Jyotish Digest for very many reasons, the most compelling being the following – (i) Thakur ji’s chief deity being Goddess Kali who is signified by Shani and Saturn happens to be the Atmakaraka of Sri Sanjay Rath, the Editor. I seek the blessings of Mother for him (Sri Sanjay Rath) as well as the growth and firm direction of this magazine (ii) Thakurji’s Atmakaraka is Rahu, signifying an intense and an extremely mature Atma whose divine light is very essential to remove the darkness in our lives, and (iii) the perfection in his Bhakti (to Goddess Kali) which stands out as an example for all of us even today. Bhakti is truly the essence of life and Sanatana Dharma. How do we draw relevance of his life with that of ours is an aspect that is easily understood through Jyotish Shastra. Thakur ji was born on the 18th of February 1836 and Chart -1 is his horoscope.

From Chart-1, it may be observed that Thakur ji has all the makings of being born a great Saint with a purpose. To understand this, we shall analyse his Navamsa, which is also known as the Dharmamsa. It is the Navamsa that throws light on the fruits of our karma – both good and bad. Thus, Navamsa is very fundamental to any horoscope as it enlightens us with the knowledge of what is in store for us as blessings from the Almighty.

Significations of Pravrajya Yoga
Thakur ji’s Arudha Lagna (AL) is in Gemini with Jupiter conjoining it. This indicates his image or perception (his Maya) in this world as a Saint. The renunciation of Maya (material wealth and bhoga) is further strengthened by the presence of exalted Rahu in Taurus in the 12th from Arudha (Rahu in the 7th or 12th from Arudha is a mark of a true renunciate as the basic instinct of desire will be lacking). Besides, Taurus, the natural 2nd house of the zodiac signifying wealth and desires (sexual or passionate – as its natural ruler is Venus) is in the 12th from the AL.

Pravrajya Yoga1 is very clear in his chart. Surya and Chandra, the two luminaries, are in the Lagna with Mercury, indicating a very strong yoga for eternal fame and a very strong Pravrajya Yoga as the Lagna happens to be a Saturnine sign. Venus, the planet that signifies desires, is exalted in the Rasi while it is debilitated in Kanya. Mars, the other planet responsible for desires (passionate), is also exalted in Rasi while it is debilitated in the Navamsa. These two planets are primarily responsible to confer Brahmacharya and Sanyasa in his life. The sainthood is further confirmed by the satwic planets Sun & Moon in trines to Lagna both in Rasi & Navamsa. Further, the Lagnamsa is in the twelfth house (Moksha) from the Karakamsa.

Renunciation and his Marriage
One may wonder if Thakur ji was a perfect renunciate, then why and how is it that he married at all. To understand this, one needs to study the horoscope of Mata Sharada as well, which is beyond the scope of this article. We shall do it separately in an article on Mata in one of the subsequent issues. Although Thakur ji was married to Mata there was hardly any contact between them except for service and spirituality. This can happen only if the mutual lagans i.e., the Lagna of Thakur ji and that of Mata is either in the sixth or eleventh from each other. In this instant case, Thakurji’s Lagna is in Aquarius while Mata’s Lagna is Cancer, thus her Lagna is sixth from that of Thakur’s Lagna.

Thakur is believed to have looked upon his marriage to Mata with a lot of divine affection. This is possible when the seventh lord also becomes the Chara Darakaraka. In the case of Thakurji, Sun is his seventh lord and the Darakaraka, thus strengthening the spiritual aspect to his marriage.

The presence of Brihaspati as Navamsa Lagna lord in the third house in the philosophical sign of Aquarius signifies that he will naturally have a very deep knowledge of the Vedas and other Shastra. The placement of Jupiter is further strengthened by the presence of Saturn (forming Brahma Yoga) and Mercury giving him the perfect knowledge of social customs and traditions and, more importantly, the knowledge of life after death. Brihaspati also denotes a very significant aspect of his life. The ability to procreate is seen from the Arudha of the third and ninth houses as well as from the Arudha of the third and ninth houses from Sun. In Thakur ji’s horoscope, A3 and AS3 are in Cancer while A9 and AS9 are in Leo. Between Cancer and Leo, Cancer is stronger as it is aspected by its lord Moon and Mercury (second source of strength) from Aquarius, while Leo is aspected only by Mars from Capricorn (both rasi drishti). A3 & AS3 being in the sixth from Sun, Thakur ji will not have any desire to have physical contact required for procreation. Nevertheless, Brihaspati, who is in the fifth in rasi, has blessed him with an able disciple in Swami Vivekananda whom he looked upon as his child.

His Devotion
Jaimini Maharishi2 teaches us that the deity (Ista) is seen from the twelfth and sixth houses from Atmakaraka and Amatya Karak respectively, as also from the Bhratrikaraka. This scheme is linked to the underlying importance of emancipation, i.e., Mukti; service i.e., Seva, and love, i.e., Bhakti, in our lives. The twelfth house from Karakamsa indicates Mukti and the loka3 to which the Soul will depart after death, while the sixth from Amatya Karak indicates the service one will perform as also the sustaining deity in the present world, and the Bhratrikaraka indicates the Bhakti that one would possess.

In the case of Thakur, the sign occupied by Rahu in the Navamsa is the Karakamsa. One might argue the nature of Rahu in anybody’s horoscope. Shastra teaches us that the Atmakaraka Graha represents God in a horoscope. Thus, Rahu, Thakurji’s Atmakaraka, represents God in his horoscope. If a planet like Rahu will teach spirituality, then there is no other planet that is going to teach the bad things in life. It actually indicates the high level of spiritual advancement that his Soul has attained.

Accordingly, his Karakamsa is Capricorn and the twelfth from it is Sagittarius. Sun occupies this house and it signifies Lord Shiva. As Surya is in Sagittarius, the specific form of Lord Shiva that is signified is Sri Dakshinamoorthy (Guru rupa of Lord Shiva) and the loka that is signified for the passage of the Soul is Satya loka, represented by Jupiter. The Amatyakaraka, Mars, is in Cancer and the sixth there from, once again, is Sagittarius with Surya in it, again indicating Sri Dakshinamoorthy as his Palanadevatha – the one who takes care of him in the present world. Rightly so, as Thakurji’s undying fame is blessed by Sri Dakshinamoorthy and is brought about by his karma and his effulgent disciple – Swami Vivekananda who was born with Sagittarius Lagna and Surya in it, perhaps, conveying a very deep spiritual meaning and the invisible hand of God. Swami Vivekananda was singularly responsible for placing Hinduism on a high pedestal with a universal preference. Coming to Bhratrikaraka, it is the Moon that signifies Thakurji’s unflinching devotion to divine Mother in her Kali rupa.

In fact, a look at his Vimsamsa will indicate his love for goddess Kali. The strongest trine in Vimsamsa is the 9th house (Aquarius) with the Moon and Venus in it. This combination of Moon and Venus not only indicates the fact that he adored Mother Kali, but he also had a lot of devotion for Radha-Krishna as well. Since Kali and Krishna are basically of the same spiritual direction (having similar beeja mantras Kreem and Kleem respectively) it was but natural that he would also worship Krishna by trying to imbibe the devotion/bhakti of Radha in himself. Such was his devotion and so strong was his tantricism that he remained secluded and his physical body gradually developed the femine physiology. The following is his Vimsamsa or the D20.

The strength of his Soul
One of the factors used to gauge the strength or level of attainment of the Atma where the Atma is beyond the grip of the Graha’s, is determined by the manner of death the person experiences i.e., whether it is death inflicted by a planet or death by one’s own wish. A highly spiritual and fully emancipated Soul is believed to attain Nirvana and has the powers to determine the time, place, Tithi, etc., to leave the physical body/world. As in the case of many Saints, Thakur ji also had Iccha Mrityu i.e., his Soul left the physical body on his own wish. He died in his 51st year on 16th August 1886, at 1.06 AM. Let’s determine the longevity by the standard method of three pairs.

(i) Lagna + Hora Lagna = Fixed + Fixed = Short.

(ii) Saturn + Moon = Movable + Fixed = Middle.

(iii) Lagna Lord + 8th Lord = Movable + Movable = Long.

Since the results of all the pairs are different, the one by the Moon shall dominate as Moon is in Lagna. This indicates Madhya Ayu (Middle Life i.e., 36 to 72 years). Of the four signs in the fifth to the eighth house in the Madhya Ayu khand, the fifth house has Jupiter, hence cannot kill. The sixth house is aspected by Rahu, the Atmakaraka, and hence cannot kill. The seventh house has the aspects of Mars and Saturn and is likely to inflict death. This indicates a longevity of 54 to 63 years. However, Thakur left his mortal body before this ordained time and it has been recorded that he took upon himself the sins of some of his disciples. Only a perfect guru can take away one-sixth portion of the sins of his sishyas as per Shastras. Hence he passed away during the Shoola dasa of Cancer. Since this Shoola dasa is aspected both by Chara Atmakaraka (Rahu) and the Naisargika Atmakaraka (Sun), it is likely that he attained Moksha. Parasara mentions that Moksha/rebirth are to be seen from the Atmakaraka. Thakur died of cancer and this disease is indicated by the aspect of Saturn on the third house from Arudha Lagna. Normally, Saturn aspecting the third from Arudha Lagna indicates disease before death. But the time for such a death had not come yet. The fact that he died before this ordained period proves that he indeed took away the sins of his disciples in the form of a painful disease upon himself which confirms his sainthood.

I conclude this article with a prayer to Thakur ji to bless us all with a very meaningful and blissful life, and peace to the entire world as it needs it most with the kind of terror and annihilation of one another going on today. May Thakur ji shower his blessings!

1 Pravrajya Yoga is responsible for shunning all the bhoga in life as opposed to what one enjoys with Rajya Yoga.

2 The disciple of Veda Vyasa. Jaimini Maharishi has rendered the Sutras to Parasara Hora Shastra. These Sutras are commonly known as Jaimini’s Upadesa Sutras, which is only a key to the standard Shastra unlike what is propounded by many astrologers as a separate branch/stream of astrology, which is actually a wrong portrayal of Jaimini Maharishi’s work.

3 There are 14 loka. These are the loka from where the Souls come or depart to depending upon the different levels of attainment of the Soul. These loka may be learnt and understood from the standard scriptures viz., Srimad Bhagavatam etc.

Regards
Samarth

Wow Samarthrao,
I think of myself something of an intermediate level student of astrology but this thread reminds me it's only in terms of western astrology. I wasn't able to understand awhole lot of that analysis. There were just so many terms that I had never heard before and didn't understand. Nevertheless, it is interesting to learn about Vedic, even if it make me feel like a day-one beginner all over again.

But I do want to comment that I was very amazed when I first saw that chart. I've seen alot and I've never seen one quite like that.

Its a chart that seems so ..in unison with itself, I might say..

The Grand Trine in Water is prominent, involving SIX of his planets. I recently learned that a Grand Trine is best utilized if there are tense aspects to it as well to serve as "funnels", so to speak, for that energy, otherwise it sort of just stagnates.

Now the utterly fascinating part is that the other four remaining planets are squaring into that trine while at the same time, a sextile between the four ensures that they accomplish their "funneling" in a most harmonious way!

It seems to be a very focused chart. Not surprising it's the chart of a Saint then.

Thanks for sharing!
