A terrible accident happened here in Greece last night. 21 school kids were killed and 30 wounded, several of them critical, when their school bus crashed with a truck. All the kids came from the same village, and this means that virtually all the children born that place that year (1985) were involved in this accident.
Can you see something like this in their natal charts and in the transits?
I'm also thinking about other accidents like this, when an entire age group from one place is suddenly gone. Like that earth quake in that village in Italy last year, for instance, when all the pupils of one class died.
Any ideas?

There are transit cycles within cycles. By that I mean we all have our own transit cycles going on, but there are larger cycles as well that effect our lives. There are generational cycles, country, state, town , etc... cycles. Some larger cycles override out individual cycles. In times of war, where large numbers die or are wounded, there experiencing the effects of a larger cycle, not their individual cycles.

In the case that you mentioned, its most likely a larger cycle that is overriding the individual children cycles.

We as humans tend to be ego centered, thinking that everything is about and centered around our indiviual self.

3rd house? You have to explain, please, Aphrodite.
And I'd like to hear more about these cycles, Lanny. I also had in mind wars, and also the destiny of a country. For instance like Afghanistan, that had really a lot within a short span. Good to see you back here! Did you get a job yet?

No, still no job.

You're right, wars are a good example of a larger cycle, but things like natural disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, etc... fall into such a larger cycle.

I don't really know what I'm looking for, Aphrodite..Like most people here I feel just numb. Driving is completly mad in this country, this mass murder was caused by a truck driver who had overloaded his truck with marble and, driving at high speed, lost control over the truck. This is something you see on a daily basis here. Hopefully things will change with this tragedy, I believe one of the reason this has upset the nation is that everyone know it could just as well have happened to their children. Friday my kids are going on a school trip.

Sometimes the loss of a child drives us to work for the safety and betterment of other children. I see it as the gift of the children's souls to bring into being something we might not do otherwise. Here in the states you often see mothers or fathers rise above their grief and work for a law or organization so that their child will not have died in vain.

It is a great gift for a soul to come into a particular life in order to die early to provide a stimulus for creative change in society.

Bless them, and bless their parents who rise above their own grief to help others.

How terrible. These things make us feel helpless. I also hope they learn from this. Greed kills.

I think astrology can analyze most big events - tragic or happy - as Lanny mentions, by looking at transits, cycles, individual charts, the city chart, the country chart, etc etc., and by paying attention to the positions of the planets and house Aphrodite mentions. Thus theoretically tragedies could be predicted, but the world is so large and events so multiplicitous that how would one know where to begin? We keep one eye on the future always, but how can we live, if we become its constant watchdogs? Some astrologers definitely follow local or world events, and from the transits can predict the likelihood and probable characteristics of an event, but precise predictions are tough to make in any occult field.

I have seen charts and interpretation done for the WTC (the bombing and 9/11), for example, and elections.

I'll say a prayer for those kids and their families.

I really hope Lanny is right, that these children died to bring about a creative change in this society. Greece is one of the worst countries in the world on the statistic of traffic accidents, while my home country Norway is one of the "best" - I guess that makes me more aware of the MADness on the roads here. (This should also be a warning for all of you guys coming here on holidays - Tourism in Greece always goes down when there is more than normal instability in the Middle East, and is predicted very low this year because of Irak. But it's not the closeness to the Middle East or terrorism that are the dangers here. It's the driving!)
Accidents are very often blamed on the road, the weather or mainly, DESTINY. But today the media was full of reports of irresponsible truck drivers, cheating with papers to be able to drive old, dangerous cars etc. etc. I do believe and hope this accident will make an attitude change. And I also believe that if one did an indebt analyze of the charts of these children, this country and the transits one could explain this event. But I guess it doesn't really matter. The change does, though.

Lunargirl, I don't believe in living my life by consulting charts all the time. I tend to view my chart as a guide of the areas that I should be aware of, but never ever afraid of.

I think most of the problems one runs into in life stem from denial and refusing to face the truth. If one keeps in mind that they should try to be honest with others, are open to change, infact view change as good, and tend to their spiritual quest, I don't think looking at their chart every minute of the day is useful.

denial not being a river in Egypt.

And unfortunately while i beleive astrology could predict *something* will happen, we dont have nearly the accuracy to predict *what* will happen.

And anyway, if i could predict everything i'd get very bored very quickly.

stella: yes, I hope this sad event helps point out some root causes.

Lanny: I agree with you 100% of 100%! I use astrology as a guide and inspiration, and to help understand cycles of my life and that of others, but years ago, when I was younger and trying simple charts for friends, one friend got quite addicted to them, and I admit that I enabled her. I was doing work and aspect calculations about the people in her life, keeping her up to date with inner planet news, etc. etc... and unhealthy dependency grew. Later we realized what was happening, and stopped. We still laugh about that phase, where we tried to calculate our lives "on paper", rather than dealing with it.

I guess my point was that there are not enough astrologers in the world to predict (and thus prevent) all possible world events. Sometimes it's a loss that is our best, if harshest teacher.
