Foe those of you who haven't visited the Free course section of Lindaland lately, there is homework on understanding Mercury's effects on a person waiting there for you.

Hi Lanny
Thanks for posting a reminder to everyone You're doing such an excellent job on the Astrology Course Forum

The astrology course forum has been on my mind a lot lately and I was going to post here to ask everyone a few questions. So I'll do that now.......

First of all I'd like to say we have some excellent teachers (Lanny is one of them) who have spent a lot of time preparing the lessons for the course. I really do appreciate their time and effort

I'm concerned that the Free Astrology Course Forum is not as busy as I would have expected. Hence my questions......

Has anyone any thoughts as to why the forum is not so busy?

1. Is it because people aren't aware that we have a free astrology course forum? (It's near to the bottom of the list of forum's - so you wouldn't know it was there unless you scrolled down the initial opening page).

2. Is it because it's a closed forum which you need to gain access too. You need to email Randall for access. Maybe people don't know that?
Randall where is your email address now visible since you no longer moderate Free For All?

3. Is it because people don't really want to actually learn astrology but would rather ask astrologers questions?

4. Is it because people are maybe a bit "nervous" of posting their thoughts/answers to lessons re astrology?

Ok I'll quit with the questions
Basically what I'm asking is how we can "busy up" the Free Astrology Course Forum. I'd really appreciate everyone's thoughts about this and I know the people teaching the various lessons would love more "audience participation"

Cat & et. al,

My take is that there is a lack of relatedness between participants and teachers, open communication, and fear of looking "bad." There is a lack of community spirit too, in us helping each other out and being committed that each student in the community fully understands and learns the material. There is a lack of accountability because almost all of us are more interested in what we get for ourselves than what the other person is getting. Disgusting, but true nonetheless.

There is nothing wrong with the layout, access, desire to learn, or awareness. The problem isn't the course itself; it's the lack of community spirit, committed relatedness and dedicated involvement for each other.

well if i had any free time i'd be contributing but i dont at the moment, nor am i likely to any time soon

I think its just a busy patch for most people at the moment, as soon as things calm down i'm sure most people will have more time to devote to the study

I for one am way behind everyone else. It`s not comming easy to me and I`m trying to make sure I know what I think I`ve learned. I don`t want to hold all up by asking dunce - type questions that are obvious to most.

As soon as my springtime farm needs are met, I will have more time to devote and hopefully catch up.

Hi EveryOne,

So it's been several days that Sue has posted this.

What's up?

I'll truthfully begin with me:

I am wrong and selfish for only attending the course when it relates to my chart. I selfishly look up my chart data interpretations written by community members, such as ZenRia and Lanny and do not care to share it with anyone else outside myself because "I got mine." What I am doing is nasty and completely obtuse to everyone in the course, as I also skim over most everyone else's comments because I find them too long or grammatically broken to the point of colloquial hysteria. A pretentious standard I know that does not exist in reality, but in my head.

I apologize to everyone in the course for being a selfish sh*%$%r and not sharing myself with others.

I apologize for not relating myself to everyone in the course, and not making a firm commitment that everyone understands the material.

I apologize for making up excuses for not viewing the board as often as I'd like because I am acting lazy.

Thanks Aphrodite
Actually I think you're being too hard on yourself as you do give a lot of your time helping other people with their charts.......but I do really appreciate your support.
Sue

PS: So where's everyone else hiding
It's not a problem if no-one wants to actually learn and would rather just ask questions relating to their own situation. It would just help me, the teachers & also Randall if we knew what everyone wanted.

hmm. I know that alot of the reason I don't spend more time there is simply lack of it. Time that is. It also seems that the major factor working against building more solid community is that people come and go around here. It's related to the intangible nature of the web..sometimes it's hard to find internet access or sometimes the realm of breathing people in front of me demands I stop 'withdrawing' into the cyber realms. (though I see it as just a different way of reaching out, rather than withdrawing from the world.)
I think that Aphrodite is also on target in some sense, though perhaps a bit rough on oneself (I just realized I don't know which pronoun to use! ack! I feel terrible..aph, are you a boy or grl? I feel silly ) about peoples' selfish desires to learn about thems-elves and not so much interested in others. Which isn't necessarily bad..it just means that we all have alot of inner work still needing to be done before we can branch out to help others.

I'm not sure exactly where I'm going with this but I just wanted to add my .02 cents and say that I think everyone teaching the course is doing a great job and I really appreciate your sharing of knowledge with us. I don't really know that there's much you could do to step up the traffic in there...
Thank you!

I saw the gender-bender faux pax too. I like the OnesELF definitive body. It's all cool, you can call me Crapola Granola and I'd be cool with that too.

Are you educated in Women and Gender Studies as well? I took a few courses, but am mostly trained in Critical Theory and Media Sexuality.

Cheers,

Aphrodite

P.S. I'm a woman!

Aph,
Nope, I haven't ever taken any courses in gender/women's studies per se. Not for lack of interest..just lack of money or time for college. I have however, read ALOT of books on Goddess/matrifocal religion. Interesting stuff.

Crapola Granola? Thank you for the laugh. I'll just stick with Aphrodite.
Glad to have cleared up gender confusion. I don't know why my first instinct was that you were a boy... I'm weird like that.

Oh, I noticed that you are from S.F.. I'm moving near there..Sonoma Co. in August and I heard rumor of an astrological themed bar in S.Fran. Ever heard of it? I wish I could remember the name...
