Thought this was appropriate for this thread for Leos and Aquarius. The Leo full moon period is upon us at 19 Leo-Aquarius 05, and hence will particularly affect those with planets near this degree of the fixed cross - in their natal or prenatal charts.
" The acting profession is, par excellence, Leonine. The actor is the dramatiser of human emotion and ideals. Movies inspire and move us. Music is a path leading directly to the heart; or via the emotions to the heart.
„Leo˜is connected with the astral permanent atom, for the reason that desire or the power to go forth and occultly touch that which is desired is the basis of all sense of awareness or responsiveness and the underlying cause of progress or evolutionary movement forward; it is the keynote of the man who has achieved that true "self-centred" attitude which makes him an individual. Later, as responsiveness grows and the world of small affairs is converted into the world of ever larger values and reality, the desires change into aspiration and finally into spiritual will, purpose and intent.‰ [1]
Leo is a sign of self-rule as implied by the Leonine symbol of the king. It is also a sign that has a relatively unusual dual expression of Will-Power (Ray 1) and Love-Wisdom (Ray 2); this can be translated as mental (1st aspect) and emotional (2nd aspect) expression within the personality.
The Unevolved Leo has learnt how to appropriate temporal earthly power motivated by selfish self-interest. He is the Œking of the beasts‚ - in the lower sense of the Œbeast of personality‚ (the Œshadow‚ or Œdweller on the threshold‚); of that which lies unredeemed within.
This Leo is the tyrant of a nation who enslaves his subjects and builds up power, the main motivation for Leo at this stage of evolution.
The physical heart and heart chakra are ruled by Leo. Some of the petals of the heart chakra ˆ the petals of knowledge, love and will ˆ have been opened. The qualities of courage and the use of power are developed, but the correct conditioning of the environment by the soul has not occurred yet.
ŒCourage‚ derives from the French Œcoeur‚ ˆ Œle coeur de leon‚ ˆ the courage of the lion, Richard the Lion Heart:
„QUEEN. What, is my Richard both in shape and mind
Transform'd and weak'ned? Hath Bolingbroke depos'd
Thine intellect? Hath he been in thy heart?
The lion dying thrusteth forth his paw
And wounds the earth, if nothing else, with rage
To be o'erpow'r'd; and wilt thou, pupil-like,
Take the correction mildly, kiss the rod,
And fawn on rage with base humility,
Which art a lion and the king of beasts?
KING RICHARD. A king of beasts, indeed! If aught but beasts,
I had been still a happy king of men.‰ [2]
Development of the mental faculty is where Leo‚s power arises, and is expressed as the Œmane of the mental body‚ perceived in the aura. This is the source of the pride which Leo emanates, the mental pride that acts as an agent of separation from fellow humanity ˆ symbolised by the polar opposite sign Aquarius:
„AJAX. Yes, lion-sick, sick of proud heart. You may call it
melancholy, if you will favour the man; but, by my head, 'tis pride.‰ [3]
„And like a hungry lion did commence
Rough deeds of rage and stern impatience;
But when my angry guardant stood alone,
Tend'ring my ruin and assail'd of none,
Dizzy-ey'd fury and great rage of heart
Suddenly made him from my side to start
Into the clust'ring battle of the French;
And in that sea of blood my boy did drench
His overmounting spirit; and there died,
My Icarus, my blossom, in his pride.‰ [4] <outbind://77/#_ftn4>
The Evolved Leo is the benevolent king who has earned the Œright to rule‚. Benevolence arises from the unfoldment of the love petals within the Œegoic lotus‚ or heart centre. Leo is the fifth sign and it is the fifth petal (Œlove/love‚) which is its strongest expression.
In Leo the combination of a powerful mind and unfolded heart work together. This capacity of the mind is that of the raja yogi (Œraja‚ meaning Œking‚) who has attained a relative self-mastery through various disciplines over many lives. The result is a Œsovereign‚ ˆ one who has self-rule and control of the Œbeast of personality‚. The personality in this case is mainly the emotional and mental bodies of the three-fold personality.
Therefore the benign sovereign serves his subjects (on bended knee) with magnanimity, kindness and true humility.
ŒSovereign‚ is also a word that describes a gold coin, gold being the symbol of the Sun, which rules Leo. The king‚s crown is also the Œcoin‚ ˆ the allegorical question being Œhow do you trade your spiritual currency?‚ or, Œhow do you share and give of yourself?‚.
When the Leo Sun Œshines‚ there is expressed a profound sense of self-consciousness and identification. This is something that humans develop in their long journey as souls, yet paradoxically must die to eventually - as part of this identification constitutes the Œahamkara‚, or most illusory sense of self.
This is interesting, as the planet of illusion in astrology is Neptune, which also happens to be the soul ruler of Leo. Highly refined Neptunian vibrations distort through the unredeemed astral body.
Leo rules the emotional permanent atom, that sum total of emotional experiences over all the incarnations of a soul. Neptune, the God of the Waters (the emotional realm) is the soul ruler of Leo, and hence most complimentary to the emotional permanent atom.
Therefore, Leo the dramatic actor at centre stage, focussed in the spotlight (of the Sun) is able to draw upon extraordinary reserves of emotional experience during a projected creative expression to an audience, symbolised by Aquarius, the polar opposite to Leo. The fiery Œmane‚ vitalises and creates the spotlight of centre-stage.
The Leonine actor is also able to draw upon the mental power to rehearse and learn the script by Œheart‚. Therefore what occurs within a great performance is a magical, alchemical synthesis of mind and emotion (will and love) ˆ that is far greater than the total sum of its parts.
This makes an Œimpression‚, to use a theatrical term - esoterically the actor Œimpresses‚ the ethers; and this is part of what DK describes in relation to Leo conditioning its environment.
Hidden within the emotional permanent atom are ancient experiences of fear, which collectively give rise to the primordial and visceral stagefright experienced by so many performers.
Courage is the antidote to fear, and is that which all performers develop and draw upon. Developing the courage of the heart is really about the king sitting down at the round table with his audience - symbolised by the polar opposite sign, Aquarius. There all are equal and the king (performer) can serve his subjects (audience) Œon the level‚ to use a Masonic term, that is, from heart to heart ˆ without any mental separation or insecurities around personal power.
This is where fear evaporates; yet it has to be backed up with mental discipline, as a Leo „brooks no disciplinary measures which others may seek to impose.
