First, as your VIIIth house is starting with Cancer, you should look for your Moon to determine all affairs concerning this house: intimate relationships with others, sex, the bedroom, occult, psychological and other forms of powers, death; but also banks and taxes.

Mars in the VIIIth house shows someone who knows power, reacts well to stress and trauma and fights his/hers enemies rather well. This can lead to a person who will chose to work with danger and aggression of others (police, military etc.) or the inner world of psychological problems. Your Mars could be in Cancer or Leo and have various aspects - so nothing much I can say.

I do not think that the popping up of your friend is connected to Saturn (if he/she comes and goes frequently), as Saturn returns to his original position in 28 years (slow) and will visit every house only 2, perhaps 3 times during a persons life. So this could not be it, unless you have not seen each other 28 years ago ... But, as your friend is an Aries you should check the Mars transit - it is now in Pisces. So look when Mars was in Pisces the last time and try to remember. Or Venus. I do not think that Saturn triggered it.
