When doing a chart to determine your relationship with another, do you combine the charts and take the midpoint? I'm not sure I am describing this correctly, but say my sun is in the 2nd house and his sun is in the 6th house, combined then our sun is in the 4th? Or is there a different way to look at it? If I sound confused...I am. THANKS!IP: Logged |

Hi castalia and welcome! A chart combining two individual ones is called a composite chart; whereas the comparison of two charts is called synastry. Here are a few links to explain a little further; hope they help. http://www.spiritbreath.com/shop/relationships.html http://www.astrotogo.com/learn/learn_adv_synastry.cm

Thank you for the welcome! My question now is would you get similar results from both the composite and synastry charts if you are using the same two people. My guess is that they wouldn't be significantly different... IP: Logged |

Yes, they really could be significantly different. The composite chart takes each person's sun (say 15 deg Leo & 26 deg Scorpio) and puts the composite sun at the exact mid point between the two (in this case, about 5 deg Libra, a lovely and harmonious placement for a composite sun) And it does the same with all the other planets. In synastry, we look at the aspects that the sun in 15 Leo makes to the sun in 26 Scorpio, which in this case, is a loose "square" aspect, a notoriously tense aspect between planets, and certainly not harmonious by nature. And we compare all the other planets of one person to all the other planets of another. Ya see? Quite a different thing, a 'composite chart' and a 'synastry comparison'. IP: Logged |

The main difference between the two methods is that the composit chart deals with the relationship itself, while the synasty chart speaks to what each partner brings to the relationship, good and not so good.Lanny IP: Logged |

Wow...that is a big difference! Thank you for making it easy for me to understand with the example. So basically someone could seem very different from each other and bring very different things to the relationship, but when combined it all could turn out quite well? This astrology stuff is way more complicated the more I try to understand it. HaHa! I appreciate everyone's response in trying to help! IP: Logged |
