Hello, I actually have a what I think is a simple question but I just dont know the answer. Why is it that some houses are larger than others and what does that mean? I dont know if Im explaining myself correctly but some people have huge 12th houses and some have bigger 1 or 2nd, I dont get it....?

The farther away someone was born from the equator, the more distorted some of their houses will become with some of the house systems. I see you are from Canada. I can relate, I was born in Alaska and my 5th and 11th houses are large, encompassing three signs. I'm not real savvy about what this means interpretively, but I'll go try to dredge up a thread where intercepted signs was discussed. (an intercepted sign is when one sign doesn't fall on the cusp of any house. It's entirely 'intercepted' within one house)
Hope that helps.

HI, Gang...
I had the same question, because there's a lot of descrepancies in my chart from one house system to another, and this frustrates me because nobody seems to know which house system is most reliable...everyone says things like "it's an interpretive art, there are no wrongs or rights" or, "you just use the one that "feels" right for you" I WANT A DEFINATIVE ANSWER! I'm stubborn, but I'm coming to terms with the reality that there's no such thing in esoteric affairs LOL.

Anyway, here's a link to a site where this guy talks more indepthly about Koch vs Placidus, and he's quite informed about it all too.
Koch puts 7 planets in my 9th house, see, as opposed to 4 in the 9th house and 3 in the 8th house, which is how Placidus lays it out.
But, Koch evolved from Placidus, devised by a triple Virgo, so I think that gives it some credability. It takes into account the less that perfect pie shape that the heavens break into from the higher and lower parts of the globe. (It makes my 9th house ginormous!)

anyway check it out if you wish

Hi all,
generally I use Koch, but I recall reading-probably here!- that Linda preferred equal house systems, with the reasoning "why complicate things that need not be complex?"

I've been inclined towards looking into equal house ever since...though I still use Koch mostly.

lioneye, like you, I want definitives, but it doesn't seem to work that way!

Lioneye,
I can totally relate to wanting a difinitive answer on the matter of houses. It's really bugged me too and still..I have yet to find anyone to tell me absolutely which house system to use. *sigh*

I find myself using Placidus because it's the system that the highest percentage of people and books I've come across use. I'm not usually the type to just go with the majority ruling but the way that system lays out my chart makes sense to me, so I've stuck with it. Though I do consult the equal house system from time to time because I respect Linda so much. I've found truths for my own chart in that system too. It still doesn't cease to aggravate me alittle that there isn't more of a concensus on this issue though..
My fixed organizing Leo rising getting peeved perhaps?

I only use equal houses. For me it has to do with 30 degree harmonics.

As far as someone telling you the "right or correct way" to do anything in astrology, My suggestion is you ignore any such advice. Its really just a matter of preference. Try each of them and use the one that works best for you.
