Maybe you guys have discussed this topic already, but anyway - how do you approach people with the question what their sighs are?
do you just pop it after you meet them? do you wait a while before you ask?
i have always been embarrased to just ask people at first. they find it very strange. what do you think?

I usually smile and ask! Well, sometimes I just ask, "So, how old are you?" or "When's your birthday?"

You would be surprised at how many people actually know their signs and like to talk about it. I am also not so worried about the controversy. Most people think I am a bit weird anyway.

yeah..I usually don't worry too much about coming across as a weirdo, I get that whether or not I talk about astrology.

I too have found that a majority of the peole really enjoy talking about their sign. Astrology really is gathering a greater amount of interest all the time I think.

It is hard sometimes though, when you come across a person that is a staunch disbeliever and takes it upon themselves to ridicule you for believing in it. I can't stand that and usually end up in a heated debate or I just walk away. It's either one or the other. No middle for me.

Anyhow, I usually try to have some sort of conversation where I learn something about the person before I pop the question. But if I'm feeling impatient, like a Sag often does, I just straight up ask right off the bat.

oh yeah, and I like to guess. It's a favorite game of mine..that's why I try to learn something about a person first. When I was bartending I got pretty good at guessing a person's sign. Though I found I often guess the moon or asc, instead.

I LOVE guessing. Most of the time i just make a complete idiot of myself, but is so much fun
what i was trying to say is that i believe that people should have a little bit more respect for the "odd". even in my homecountry, in my mother's language i sound weird because i'm interested in astrology so very much.
so grateful that i found this forum. should have done it a long time ago. thank you for being here, guys!

now i sound exactly like a treehugger

i usually come straight out and ask..i also find it funny that even those who say they dont believe in astrology...know what sign they are.....and will even ask back what sign you are...lol....im know for being oddball...so asking what sign someone is...means nothing...hahahah
i like it even more then to ask what number they are....and the puzzled look they give..

I usually ask when their birthday is, because I want to know their sign, but I don't want to reveal why I want to know.

Sometimes, it'll come out in passing, like I'll say "yeah, he's such true Scorpio" and they'll go, "oh, your into that stuff, hey?" and I'll go, "yeah, well sorta...why, what sign are YOU?" I don't like to let on just HOW into astrology I am, because I've found that people get a little bit weirded out by my indepth knowledge of it (although, by my own standards, I'm still very green). Then, they seem to move me to into a different catagory in their minds...the "Appears to be Deceivingly Innocent and Harmless but is actually Trippy and Spooky" catagory, I guess (?)

I think it was Prox who once said, "Astrology is kinda like my porn or something. I enjoy it very much, but I'm still kind of embarressed to admit to it".

Besides, it's more interesting and telling to observe people's behavior when they're completely unaware that you're observing them.

I must have missed that post. That's great.

I've witnessed this shift, as well, in people. Yeah, I agree that sometimes it is indeed better to observe without other's being aware of said observance. My Scorpio Moon is quite fond of that tactic.

I usually tell them I'm a Taurus and add...in case you believe in astrology, that may help figure me out since you may wonder later.

usually they act like they do not care but then decide it's a perfect time to tell me all about themselves including the sign, which is fine because that's what I wanted anyway. The best kind of friend is one that gives first.

I have only had one person walk up to me and tell me her sign, that was a Cancer/Pisces rising/Gemini moon, she approached me and right away told me her sign and asked mine. Maybe 1 out of 5 doesn't say anything but ignores me, but then I wouldn't want to know that person anyway.

I found both of your contributions funny, as I can relate to them..... I don't understand why you said what do I mean.....
I laughed, it was funny.... I meant... hee hee.....? ! ? That's all, and I was referring to my lack of run-on sentances, when I said that is all I have to say, as it is unusual for me to not spout on and on, as I tend to ramble. ( like I am doing right now, for instance!) Nothing covert here, just, you know, found it humourous.....

natasha, that's a great tactic! Telling your own sign first..I'll have to try that one sometime.

By the way, Gloomy sag...
I can totally relate, when I was brand spanking new here, I posted a thread called.... 'sure way to defend astrology'
So I get the need to ask, and it is great getting other's opinions. I am a unique person, anyway, and I find people are intrigued by astrology. So I usually bring it up. I may bring it up too much though, as I am learning so much here.

So gloomy sag where are you from(home country)?

Yeah, I usually just ask it, I can pretty much bet they'll think I'm a little wierd in no time at all anyway so there is no point in pretending I'm not interested in it.

LOL Fajita, I know where you're coming from... because if I don't live next door to you, I'm at least in the same zip code!

I generaly just ask away, or I'll guess. I have found that I'm much better at guessing the Ascendant than the Sun Sign.

gloomy~ you certainly like clarification! Read the posts above.... you and Harpyr were having a conversation, I butt in and laughed, you asked me why I laughed...... I told you why I laughed, I quoted HARPYR not you. In fact, I cut and pasted the quote, so there was not any doubt that harpyr signed it.... I liked the 'treehugger dirt loving 'part. Just look up, dear Sag...... and you will see.

as ur a sag like me, my friendly advise is not to ask poeple about thier sun sign atleast for a short time. asking means communicating. and the recent transit of pluto in sag (will end in 2008) has made it a complusion or we sags to bring our communication ability in our consious control or we can stand mis understood. a short time back i started asking poeple about sun signs. and taurus and scorpion were kind of uncomfortable in replying. and many of them would mis understand me to be a 'time pass' person. and there were other problems too. so beware. just look for a person who is engaged in some work without intensity and u will know a taurus and then look forward for a person who is engaged in a conversation but is secretivly taking a glimse of each and everyone with remarkable disguise and he would be a scorpio. once u know this never ask them about sun signs. taurus feels impractical and scorpio feels irritated. and once u can identify them u can know anyone.

Hiya

strange to come across a gloomy sag though... but I most of the times just ask people, or I start on the subject (most of the times I know the signs of quite some people around me ^^) by referring to others. "Hey, you know everyone's sign or what?" People mainly just wonder whether I'm interested in it or not, they already consider me "odd" so I can live with it ^_^.

Just ask (depending on the situation a bit), most people react well to it. 's Always fun to start discussing on it.

Hugs,

Robyn.

hey, guys! thanks for all the replies seems like all of you have simimlar experiences when it comes to talking about astrology with strangers
pixelpixie, sorry for being so pushy, but sometimes i feel really stupid for not being 100% sure what is going on. and believe me, if you were living in a foreign country, you would feel the same way. it takes me a lot of clarification to do myself to understand and being understood
hey, this is exactly what N was talking about! i guess pluto is here to be blamed
thanks for the hugs, robyn
p.s. a gloomy sag is a common event in my country
