"Sun in the 8th House: The traits of Scorpio are evident in this house. There must be a reorientation of your ego and your ego must die so the soul can grow. There is a necessity for regeneration and transformation. The lessons you must learn in this life will likely be severe since the truths you must learn are fundamental. There is a strong interest in self-improvement through the application of your will power. The first third of your life may be difficult due to the physical and/or emotional loss of your father. You're able to attract the support of other people. Your emotions are deep-rooted and stable. You're very creative and sex is important to you. Towards the latter part of your life, your interest in the occult and life-after-death increases. You may inherit money from the male side of the family. You'll do good in any field that has to do with death or the dead. When death comes, it should be natural. If the Sun is afflicted, there may be financial troubles through mismanagement of your resources or from your partner's extravagant manner."

i have sun in the 8th house.

okay, i was reading this site with descriptions the meanings of certain house placements and aspects and i found this. a few things really scare me....

this is what scares me,

"The first third of your life may be difficult due to the physical and/or emotional loss of your father."

and then

"Towards the latter part of your life, your interest in the occult and life-after-death increases."

the reason: for my whole life my dad had an addiction to heroin, ever since i can remember i wanted to be closer to him but knew i couldn't, emotional loss. RECENTLY, he was trying to clean up but after 7 months of being sober he had a heart attack and died. i don't really know how to deal with it so i channeled all my energies into thinking about life-after-death and wondering if i'll ever be with him again and things like that. i never really had a BIG interest in the occult or life-after-death before now, and i'm only 18...but it says interest will increase around the latter part of my life. ummm, whoa.

Hey, you 8th house sun Mine is in the 8th, too...and so is my husbands.

First of all, speaking as an 8th house sun, I've *always* been interested in the occult and the life-after-death question. I remember reading (at about age 8!) my moms Edgar Cayce's books, as well as a lot on reincarnation, god as a source of energy as opposed to the good man in heaven, and how our "soul" returns to which world after we die. I was really, really, young getting into that.

Just because you have been thinking a lot about it, doesn't mean you are in the last 3rd of your life, Sweety. Don't let that scare you. There is a perfectly GOOD reason you have been thinking about it.

And anyways, what's the saying? Astrology inclines, doesn't compel?

I'm really sorry for the hard time you're going through...

Love,
Nackie

HiHo...nuther 8th house sun here. I took an interest in the subject of life after death a long long time ago, and I've read many books on ther subject. Oddly enough, it was my FATHER, the straight laced ultra-conservative Taurus who introduced me to the subject. He took us to a documentary type movie about NDE's when me and my older sis were only 10 and 12. She appreciated the movie, asked a few questions later, then filed it away in her "things that make you go Hmmm" file in her brain, but I've never lost my intense intrigue with the concept. I'm absolutely certain that we live on after death, and it gives me a sense of perspective on life that other people can't believe sometimes. You just can't get excited about a life's little foibles when you realize how insignificant they are in the big picture.
As for the self improvement thing, I don't read anything just for entertainment purposes, it has to life enriching and educational, or I can't be bothered. I know that novels can be very enriching as well, but it's a crap shoot, and I'd hate to spend days reading a book only to not feel enriched by it at the end of it all. That's too annoying.
Also, "armchair psychologist", that's me for sure. You know how many times I've been told I missed my calling? I don't think I could do that for a living though, cuz I've read the professions of psychiatrists and psychologists tend to have one of the highest suicide rates.

I have not just the sun in the 8th, but also Mercury (mental processes), Mars (action and energy, pursuit of goals)...all in Lovely Leo.

Ahh Esull -- So sorry that your young life has already had so much tragedy. Seems almost everyone at this board has such sorrowful tales --

Seems everywhere we read about the "lessons" of Scorpio -- if we ever WERE naive, seems it was in the way distant past, hardly even remembered.

Good Luck to you.
