Hey--I just read about this recent discovery by an astrologer on the web, and I thought that I'd pass it on to other astrologers, because it doesn't seem to be very well known phenomenon--it is simple to figure out, yet seems to yield some very interesting results--just add, and then subtract 83 years EXACTLY from your birthchart and compare it to your own birthchart--there should definitely be a few similarities, especially if you are strongly Jupiterian (Sagittarius or Pisces prominent in the chart--also, maybe Cancer, because Jupiter is the exaltation ruler.)Now, Jupiter should be very close to it's exact postion at your birth (if it's not you added/subtracted wrong--it will be a few minutes of arc off, don't worry, that's normal), and so should the Sun (because it is the same day, though this may be a little more off than Jupiter--technically the cycle is 83.034 years)--so you can leave all of the INFO in the calculation of the chart the same (time and place), just draw up the charts for EXACTLY 83 years before and/or after your birth.
I have chosen to do 83 years before, and then 83 years after my birth, but I guess theoretically you could go back or forward as far as you want, but it will get fairly complicated--but in the more recent charts, you will find a few similarities between these 83 year seperated charts and your own--and keep in mind that these charts are seperated by an astonishing 166 years!
The Jupiter charts could possibly offer some clues to past/future karma or spirtitual activity, if anyone believes in any of that stuff. When you do the charts, take a close look at the Nodes of the Moon, because they are usually involved in a significant way in these charts (the Nodes are often thought of as karmic), possibly because of Jupiter's exaltation in Cancer. (Nodes of the MOON)
These specific years, 83 years apart, also seem to be linked historically and/or astrologically in a Jupiterian way.
To give you all a brief example of my own chart (and this is not the only example by far from my chart, just the most obvious one): I was born on a solar eclipse, it occurred at 29 degrees of Gemini about 15 hours prior to my birth, so this is certainly a major "hot spot" in my chart, and the pre-natal eclipse would be for anyone, anyway.
OK: When I click back my chart exactly 83 years, I find the Nodal Axis at 29 degrees of Gemini/Sagittarius. When I click the chart forward exactly 83 years, I find Neptune at 29 degrees of Gemini (conjunct the previous chart's South Node), both of them within a few minutes of conjuncting my pre-natal eclipse, despite being 83 years away from my birthchart. Coincidence? I think not!
There are numerous other examples, but rather than list them all here, I will turn you all loose and let you find them in your own charts, or those of family, friends, etc. I have found that family member's Jupiter charts connect to the natals (either their own or your chart) in eerie ways, even though they are well over a hundred years apart!
I'd really like to read some of you other astrologers findings here on this thread if you choose to toy around with this cycle, to see if anyone else finds such interesting connections to the natal chart.
The Mathematics of the Cycle:
By multiplying the precise 11.862-year orbital cycle of Jupiter by 7 cycles, you come up with an almost exact 83-year "Jupiter Return"--degree-wise and date-wise.
Simply multiply 11.86 years (one cycle of Jupiter around the Sun) by 7 (7 cycles of Jupiter around the Sun). The answer?: 83.034 years!
Have Fun,
