Greetings...

In traditional astrology a diurnal chart is one with the Sun above the Horizon and a nocturnal chart is one with the Sun below the horizon.

Above the Horizon is from Sunrise to Sunset and includes the 12th house to the Descendant.

Below the Horizon is from Sunset to Sunrise and includes the 6th House to the Ascendant.

Diurnal = Day time

Nocturnal = Night time

P.S. There is also a type of predictive chart called a Diurnal which casts a chart for TODAY's Date but uses your birthtime. I never used this technique much, but it exists.
