Interesting question

Though "oldies", I have always found these 2 songs strengthening and uplifting:

I Am Woman by Helen Reddy
I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash

Also, whatever mood I'm in or not in, any time I hear the song "Here Comes The Sun" by The Beatles, it makes me smile.

"The Sea Of Love"

.........come with me, my love, to the sea, the sea of love, I want to tell you, how much I love you...da da daaa, da da da daaaaa.

I woke up with the bright sun streaming through my rainbow blinds, gently easing my eyes awake, a feeling of peacefulness washed over me, that song was playing and it was transcendent and moving for me. It was my birthday, and I was still excited to be turning a whole year older.. I lay there peacefully a long time, just listening to it, and feeling older. In a good way. I must have been six.

I agree with "Here comes the sun"
also, Billy Joel~ "River of Dreams"

When I am "bummy" I like lots of bass and block-rocking beats....sorry, in the past few years I have acquired a strange fascination with electronica, after years and years of pitched-in-the-key-of-angst goth tunes. My music collection is rather bipolar, I must say....

Seriously, I just can't stay upset when the goofiness of "where's your head at" by Basement Jaxx starts making my windows shake.

Inspiring? "Shelter" by Sarah McLachlan.
"Pride (in the name of Love)" by U2. My throat chokes up and I get teary-eyed EVERY TIME Bono sings "they took your life but they could not take your pride......
And anytime Enya starts singing, I turn into puddle of wistful yearnings for beautiful vistas and nostalgia for eons past.....even if i have no idea what words she is speaking.

Yup, I'm a sap.

music doesnt help with my mood much unless i am angry, but ill contribute anyway..

most definitely 'could you be loved' by bob marley

hmm most reggae songs have a feel-good air to them - ill also contribute 'feelin irie' or 'red eyes' by israel vibration.

for those with saggie influence, 'learning to fly' by pink floyd is always good for freeing and uplifting the spirits. actually this one does help when i am in a mediocre mood.

I Can See Clearly Now
Here Comes the Sun
Put a Little Love in Your Heart (Anie Lennox and Al Green)
Give a Little Love (Ziggy Marley)
One Love (Bob Marley)
Lean on Me
Futureman's Theme from the movie Bottle Rocket cheers me up, it has an exuberance to it that I like.
Cusco: Native American, Apurimac III.
Practical Magic Soundtrack (Alan Silvestri's two tracks are so pretty).
I had a couple of cd's out of the library in december featuring Native American performers, one being Mary Youngblood, the other a mixture of lullabies, and enjoyed listening to both of them.
I also have a few CD's with upbeat music/music with a strong beat to it, just to get me up on my feet and moving around.

Motherkonfessor, I'm the same way. When I was first online, a guy I was talking to couldn't believe there was room in my musical taste for Fats Domino, Adam Ant and Nine Inch Nails (he commented after finding out I'd received a tape each of Adam Ant and Fats for Christmas as replacements for missing old ones).

I also love the song "Cross Over the Bridge" by Patti Page.

Oh and my favourite Cd at the moment is "Facing Future" by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole.

Put a Little Love in Your Heart, is by Dusty Springfield originally, one of my faves too. Really uplifting.

Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin,
Feeling good is good enough for me..

I keep getting this song in my head and it won't stop, it's kind of uplifting, by Loretta Lynn.

Well, you thought I'd be waitin' up,
When you came last night.
You'd been out with all the boys,
And you ended up half tight.
But liquor and lust, they just don't mix,
Leave the bottle or me behind.
And don't come home a-drinkin',
With lovin' on your mind.

No, don't come home a-drinkin',
With lovin' on your mind.
Just stay out there on the town,
And see what you can find.
'Cause if you want that kinda love,
Well, you don't need none of mine.
So, don't come home a-drinkin',
With lovin' on your mind.

You never take me anywhere,
Because you're always gone.
And many a night I've laid awake,
And cried, dear, all alone.
Then you come in, a-kissin' on me:
It happens every time.
No, don't come home a-drinkin',
With lovin' on your mind.

No, don't come home a-drinkin',
With lovin' on your mind.
Just stay out there on the town,
And see what you can find.
'Cause if you want that kinda love,
Well, you don't need none of mine.
So, don't come home a-drinkin',
With lovin' on your mind.

No, don't come home a-drinkin',
With lovin' on your mind.

Uplifting? In a way.

Do you think it's funny that Loretta Lynn is so kick butt when she stayed with her husband all those years and still is with him? To me I can't get my mind wrapped around that!

The Rose is another good one.

Well... there are two songs that totally can uplift my spirits and never leave me sad and blue

Ray of Light by Madonna

Zephyr in the sky at night I wonder
Do my tears of mourning sink beneath the sun
She's got herself a universe gone quickly
For the call of thunder threatens everyone

And I feel like I just got home
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel

Faster than the speeding light she's flying
Trying to remember where it all began
She's got herself a little piece of heaven
Waiting for the time when Earth shall be as one

And I feel like I just got home
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel

Quicker than a ray of light
Then gone for
Someone else shall be there
Through the endless years

She's got herself a universe
She's got herself a universe
She's got herself a universe

And I feel
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel

Quicker than a ray of light she's flying
Quicker than a ray of light I'm flying

And the second one also by Madonna... the evergreen classic.. Into the Groove

And you can dance
For inspiration
Come on
I'm waiting

Get into the groove
Boy you've got to prove
Your love to me, yeah
Get up on your feet, yeah
Step to the beat
Boy what will it be

Music can be such a revelation
Dancing around you feel the sweet sensation
We might be lovers if the rhythm's right
I hope this feeling never ends tonight

Only when I'm dancing can I feel this free
At night I lock the doors, where no one else can see
I'm tired of dancing here all by myself
Tonight I wanna dance with someone else

Get into the groove
Boy you've got to prove
Your love to me, yeah
Get up on your feet, yeah
Step to the beat
Boy what will it be

Gonna get to know you in a special way
This doesn't happen to me every day
Don't try to hide it love wears no disguise
I see the fire burning in your eyes

Only when I'm dancing can I feel this free
At night I lock the doors, where no one else can see
I'm tired of dancing here all by myself
Tonight I wanna dance with someone else

Get into the groove
Boy you've got to prove
Your love to me, yeah
Get up on your feet, yeah
Step to the beat
Boy what will it be

Live out your fantasy here with me
Just let the music set you free
Touch my body, and move in time
Now I now you're mine

Now I know you're mine, now I know you're mine
Now I know you're mine, now I know you're mine
You've got to

Times of Our Lives, David Usher

I once saw a man on fire
Just staring out his window
Watching as the flames grew higher and higher
I thought that I saw him cry
Or was he only laughing
As his life went rushing on

And maybe we're just like him
Maybe we're all waiting
For our moment to begin

Who of us are open
Who of us have freedom really
Who of us can tell what these dark days will bring
All of us are hurting
All of us are crazy now
All of us are watching the world as it spins

I once had a bird like you
A bird of prey
Still you're tearing at my insides
And yesterday when you flew so far away
If you find the morning save a piece for me

Who of us are open
Who of us have freedom really
Who of us can tell what these dark days will bring
All of us are hurting
All of us are crazy now
We're crazy now

I smoked a cigarette
I'll eat the flesh instead
Another whisky more or less or more or less ya
I like the drugs that sail
I love you when we fail
When we fail

I once saw a man on fire
Staring out his window
Watching as the flames grew higher and higher
I thought that I saw him cry
Or was he only laughing
Laughing

Who of us are open
Who of us have freedom really
Who of us can tell what these dark days will bring
All of us are hurting
All of us are crazy now
We're crazy now

All of us are healing
All of us are dreaming
All of us are watching these times of our lives
We want it all
And we want for nothing
For nothing now

Ah, true, so true....

*Then some sweet guitar licks*

Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers is pretty awesome:

Sometimes I feel
Like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of angels
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I drive on her streets
'Cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills
'Cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds
And she kisses me windy
I never worry
Now that is a lie

I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way

It's hard to believe
That there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe
That I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all that way

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away

Or that song by the eagles where they say "c'mon babeeee, don't saaaay maybeeee, don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you cra-azy!"

What about "I will survive"!!?? That got me thru a lot of baaaad hours lol

I am also a Spirit of the West junkie...but I think only the canucks know what I'm talking about.

I always really liked "sincerly yours" ("Dear Lisa, I'm sorry. You were part of my folly. I bet you're wondering where I am...well,so am I...wondering where I am.

...my heart is more than willing, but my body finds it unfulfilling" lol)

But their ALL TIME funnest song that they ever wrote/sang is HOME FOR A REST....like a really good irish drinking song lol

you'll have to excuse me, i'm not at my best
i've been gone for a month
i've been drunk since i left
these so-called vacations
will soon be my death
i'm so sick from the drink
i need home for a rest

we arrived in december and london was cold
so we stayed in the bars
along charing cross road
we never saw nothin' but brass taps and oak
kept a shine on the bar
with the sleeves of our coats

-chorus-

euston station the train journey north
in the buffet car we lurched back and forth
past odd crooked dykes
through yorkshire's green fields
we were flung into dance
as the train jigged and reeled

you'll have to excuse me, i'm not at my best
i've been gone for a month
i've been drunk since i left
these so-called vacations
will soon be my death
i'm so sick from the drink
i need home for a rest
take me home....

by the light of the moon she'd drift through the streets
a rare old perfume so seductive and sweet
she'd tease us and flirt as the pubs all closed down
then walk us on home and deny us a round

-chorus-

the gas heater's empty, it's damp as a tomb
and the spirits we drank are now ghosts in the room
i'm knackered again, come on sleep take me soon
and don't lift up my head
'till the the twelve bells at noon...

You NEED the music to this song! If anyone wants the mp3 I'll send it to you lol...if you don't feel good after belting out this song a few times, I don't know what will make you feel better! lol

Don't know why but this Leonard Cohen song inspired me...hmmm. I know it seems sad, but kinda hopeful

Now the flames they followed Joan of Arc
as she came riding through the dark;
no moon to keep her armour bright,
no man to get her through this very smoky night.
She said, "I'm tired of the war,
I want the kind of work I had before,
a wedding dress or something white
to wear upon my swollen appetite."

Well, I'm glad to hear you talk this way,
you know I've watched you riding every day
and something in me yearns to win
such a cold and lonesome heroine.
"And who are you?" she sternly spoke
to the one beneath the smoke.
"Why, I'm fire," he replied,
"And I love your solitude, I love your pride."

"Then fire, make your body cold,
I'm going to give you mine to hold,"
saying this she climbed inside
to be his one, to be his only bride.
And deep into his fiery heart
he took the dust of Joan of Arc,
and high above the wedding guests
he hung the ashes of her wedding dress.

It was deep into his fiery heart
he took the dust of Joan of Arc,
and then she clearly understood
if he was fire, oh then she must be wood.
I saw her wince, I saw her cry,
I saw the glory in her eye.
Myself I long for love and light,
but must it come so cruel, and oh so bright?
