Would it be fair to say that there's not neccessarily a "right" way to interpret a chart, but that it's analagous to a Psychologist, where they learn the same fundamentals as every/most psychologists, but their take on the best way to approach &/or get to the root of your issues differs from counselor to counselor? So - by extention, would it be fair to say all/most astrologers learn the same basics, but one may have to shop around to find someone who's interpretations really jibe w/ them? I have this problem where I tend to get into a rut of thinking that there is a "right" way to interpret, and that I must learn it (thus marginalizing my intuition in the process and making me always doubt myself and rely too heavily on books - I have the same problem w/ Tarot), and I'm wondering if I have a flaw in my thinking towards it.

IMHO, chart calculation is science, and chart interpretation is art (and intuition). ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

Randall is right. Maybe start remembering not to forget the most important component of interpretation - YOU! And it's just like anything else you do well in, you do it unconsciously. Like riding a bicycle... IP: Logged |

Astrology is both a science and an art, and quite frankly, you will not readily name something else that is...Psychology is a child of Astrology...Astrology was the first science, under which all others have sprouted. Surely you couldn't think that modern medicine, barely 200 years old, can even hang? Pure science, no art...yawn... And yes, choosing-an-astrologer-wise, you do have to just grin and go find someone who jibes with you, or you submit and pay your dough to get textbook analyses from dry voices whom you risk thinking afterward that they never really knew you. Here is my services page: http://lovestarz.com/zzservices.html Of course there are prolly thousands more online, yet I have a highly educated clientele, demographically speaking, many of my clients are post-grad and I like that, since I have a law degree myself. Yeah, so you have to chat it up with potential astrologers to find the right fit, and hold your money until you do, since you should hope to find an astrologer with whom you can have a lifelong relationship. Any decent astrologer should be able to easily replace any excellent psychologist, even if Jungian is your preference...most emotional issues and mood swings are simply functions of the planets. Although, alas, we are still not included on your HMO...oh just wait! Love, Carlo IP: Logged |

(... and insurance rates going sky-high ...)... just follow the scent of Nag Champ ... ...and a good astrologer will always extend a nice invitation to you, give you complementary advice and suggestions ... IP: Logged |

That's right. I usually start with, "Sit here on my lap and we'll talk about the first conjunction that pops up." We'll that's when I do personal counseling here in LA kidding!I am an online astrologer for the most part, I find that it works great, most people prefer their info emailed timely, and I allow phone calls if people want, I don't usually get many takers, and I prefer it that way. There really isn't much I can't do online, except teach astrobiology, which I don't, it requires an actual class and a lot of following along, I have found. I have taught those classes, they go pretty well. I also use my Aquarian Moon to clear aside less compatible clients, and the right ones are usually left standing, and I give them all I have. You just have to take a fair amount of my Moon to decide if you want my services first. I don't do anything for anyone without a couple or three emails back and forth first to make sure we are both cool with each other. A client should, thus, interview her potential astrologer, and vice versa, least I always do, even if a paypal payment comes out of the blue...I hold off until I am sure they would like me as an astrologer enough to come back to me agin, even if they are not thrilled with their current service, which is rare for me, I actually haven't had a complaint or request for a refund yet. I ask at the end, like a week and a month later, if they are satisfied, gots to do that QC lol Love, Carlo IP: Logged |

Randall, Carlo, Astro Junkie, are all right on. You can only judge a good astrologer by sampling their work. I know I'm bored and turned off by many who profess to be a professional astrologer. Ask for sample readings, and references, and then check them out. Lanny IP: Logged |

Thanks everyone for your input!I'm not really looking to find an astrologer, so much as become one eventually. My biggest problem is my libra moon over-rationalizes things - rather than going w/ my Scorp/Cancer-influenced intuition. I used the psychology analogy to confirm that while the basics are the same, there is no "right" way to interpret -I was also I suppose seeking license from those who are professional astrologers to have more confidance in the use of my intuition Thanks! Is anyone familiar w/ the Kepler College in Seattle (and if so what do you think)? Also, where does one go for accredation, and will astrologers generally do private tutoring? Thanks Carlo for insight into how you work things. It's always interesting to see how different people approach the professional side of it. Thanks everyone! IP: Logged |
