I have a question about reading natals for a client. How do you make it not sound so scientific and more like a biography? Or more like talking with a friend that knows you better than yourself.

Do you have a set place that you begin and end? How and when do you go about explaining all of the glyphs and other parts of the chart? And make it not sound like a astro 101 class?

Thanks, skywych

I've tried several different ways. The, this is serious stuff approach; the, this is the great story of your life. Some other kinds too. It just seems to fall flat. Maybe they thought I was some great seer and going to fix all of their problems with a well said hocus pocus?

Maybe I should make a disclaimer and tell them up front that you have to do the work yourself. But I'm sure that would scare most of them away though.

I'll keep working on this one. Maybe I should study storytelling to give it some flair and color? I guess most people don't realize how really cool they are.

Thanks, skywych

For disclaimer maybe just limit it to "Astrology is currently not considered to be a science, and some may regard it as romance. However interpreted by the reader, and regardless of its purpose, this is entertainment."

You know? Just whatever, but don't have to get into other people's head so much.

Have you researched all the mythical characters you can call upon to make a "story"?

That is a great idea. I could go over some of the mythology of astro and bring some of that in. Great idea.

Thank you so much, skywych

Greetings...

The opinionated Astrologer speaks:

I think it depends upon what you are charging for your service, and what the client expects.

I read in a pretty predictive, non psycho-babble sort of way, offering concrete advice or guidance based on the astrological considerations in effect.

However, I do make frequent use of Horary techniques with my natal astrology, and I know that is not everyone's forte.

If I were to go to an astrologer that wanted to heap my plate full of mythology, I'd be rather bored and feel as though I were not getting what I paid for in an astrological consultation. I already KNOW who I am, I do not need an astrologer for that.

So perhaps it would be best to discuss what the client's expectations are before you go trying to give everyone the mythological story of their life.

This is a trend I find very disturbing in modern astrology. In trying to prove that astrology is a science, we attempt to become "counselors" or astro-psycho-therapists. Unless you are trained in those fields, I would try to forget that approach.

Ask the client what it is they expect, and provide that service if you are able. Not all astrologers have the same interests or skill sets. If they want the mythology or the psycho-babble, they will ask for that. Feel them out, if they express an interest in such a reading then certainly you are free to go there.

I think giving the client what they want is much more tangible and beneficial than trying to "give a reading" that begins and ends in the same fashion for everyone.

Make any sense?

Blessings...
A

Aselzion,

That's what I thought too. Mostly they want to know the two biggies: where is mr/mrs right and where is the money.

I don't charge for my astro sessions but have thought about it. I know the pros and cons but I am thinking about starting to charge.

Maybe I am feeling some resistance from them because it appears I know so much about them. They kind of shut down. Or maybe I am just giving them an information over load. The next time it happens, I am just going to ask them what is going on. Then maybe I can improve myself.

Thank you, skywych
