"Moon:

If the Moon is lord of the 10th house, or is in the 10th and dignified or received, especially if it is in sect, it often makes leaders who are loved by the people because they are sensitive to the publics needs. In a leaders chart (those with the 4 lots indicating eminence) the "Other", creates a dyadic influence that may effect sensitivity to change, particularly in public policy and social issues.

But according to Paulus: "...it will make men (or women) who are distinguished and wealthy, tax-collectors of kings, treasurers of cities ... You will find the mothers of such to be highborn". [56] Because the Moon is a primary significator for fortune, we see that wealth is indicated, and because the 10th is highly visible this tends to show those who are known for their wealth. Bill Gates is a perfect example of this with the Moon in the 10th at night.

In less eminent charts, it is often an indicator of changing jobs frequently, or that your employer prefers a less stratified approach in the workplace. A fair amount of popularity is likely. If afflicted, and/or out of sect or in debility, there is usually difficulty in holding onto a job, or there is considerable sacrifice of personal time for the sake of work.

Frequently there is tension between maintaining the public persona and keeping the private life private, feeling like you live in a fishbowl, very exposed.

Mercury:

If Merury is lord of the 10th, or in the 10th, and received or dignified, it signifys those who are good at oratory, those set forth before the public in the news media and frequent changes in employment.

According to Paulus: "...it will produce those who make their living from arguments, science, writings, or by delivering speeches,... ...inspectors, secretaries, clerks, notaries, pleaders [at law], public advocates, lawyers, interpreters or bankers". [54] Often they have a good sense of public opinion and are very adept at persuasion, and they are those who are listened to by many, and have great influence over policy. Frequently they can be found close to the throne, but rarely are they the center of attention themselves.

But when Mercury is afflicted by Mars (and quite possibly also debilitated, in the diurnal sect) according to Paulus: "...it shows those who are liars, atheists, impious, sacrilegious [temple robbers literally], or those who diminish the divine ... and forgers, counterfeiters, robbers, slayers ... and those who will have an evil name ... infamous on account of these things". [55]

Mercury creates considerable mischief should it happen to be in less dignity than Mars, showing that survival comes ahead of honor. If afflicted by Saturn, especially at night, it shows difficulty at attracting attention, obscurity, and a tendency to get stuck in a rut or a dirty job.

Saturn:

If Saturn is lord of the 10th, or in the 10th, and dignified or received, and in sect, it shows the attainment of a high social position, great responsibility and rank after a long trial or period of hard work, usually past the age of 30. Here the native has a clear sense of right and wrong because the darkness of Saturn is contrasted by the light.

This is commonly seen in the charts of the British monarchy. In charts where a lack of eminence is indicated (by the 4 lots), it shows a good relationship to superiors, loyalty and servitude without complaint, and an opinion that the superiors are just. Also according to Paulus: "When Kronos (Saturn) occupies this place for diurnal births and is present in zoidia in which it rejoices, it will make for employment at waterside jobs, and shows those who become wealthy, fond of husbandry and protective of the country, as well as those who become owners of land and of foundations". [48]

But if Saturn is out of sect, or in debility with affliction, then the native finds it difficult to get ahead and be successful because in darkness it is difficult to organize your priorities in attaining the summit. According to Paulus: "..it will produce those who become dysfunctional, unsuccessful at acquiring property, unable to get ahead, slothful, ill-wedded, with few children, and poor...". [49]

I might add that it likely produces a mistrust of authority because it would be difficult for the native to see any reasoning in their actions being overpowered by the darkness of Saturn. Often the actions of the native are unjust because the native cannot see clearly the right path because of ignorance, and for the same reasons. In the charts of those who are eminent, it indicates the decay of their empire under their rule, through bad policy, corruption, and lack of justice.

This was the case in Hitlers chart, where Saturn was in Leo in the MC and the lord (the Sun) was setting. Compare this with what Valens said 2 paragraphs above."

8th

"Moon:

If the Moon is in the 8th or is lord of the 8th, and dignified or received, it indicates something good coming from inheritance, especially if it is waxing and in sect. [36] If it is out of sect, then the death of the mother may come before the father. If it is debilitated or afflicted, often it seems that there is no one to depend on, or that a partners finances are in a constant state of flux.

This is one of the classic indicators of difficulties in relationships with women, especially if it is in a mans chart. This is because women and emotions are in aversion to the native and the nature of the "Other" is in aversion to the self."

"Mercury:

If Mercury is in the 8th or is lord of the 8th, and dignified or received, it shows an interest in the occult and the mysterious. The marriage partner may be better equipped to handle the finances. But if in debility or afflicted it shows possible danger of robbery or mugging (square or opposite an out of sect Mars), or of being conned and swindled or subject to forgery, and constant change in a partners finances.

In keeping with the corruption theme this house often has; according to Valens: "If the star of Hermes alone should be present upon the zoidion, and should have authority of thought over what is called spirit, it makes those who are dull and unintelligent". [34] The idea here is that if Mercury rules the lot of spirit it and occupies the 8th, it somehow corrupts the mind.

Paulus says something similar: "...it will make dullards and simpletons or idlers, if indeed it should occur under the solar beams". [35] The "solar beams" refers to a condition where a planet is too close to the Sun to be seen."

"Venus:

Venus in the 8th is one of the textbook examples of a peaceful death (for the native) and a good inheritance. This may well be the case if Venus is dignified or received, or possibly in sect, but most of the ancient authors disagreed.

For example, Paulus: "When Aphrodite happens to be in this place, it will make the matters of the marriage more idle; at times it will point to pederasts, at times to those who are passionate or licentious". [32] The "matters of the marriage" probably refers to sexual relations and/or the ability to have children.

And according to Valens: (referring to both Jupiter and Venus) "...they are ineffective, weak, and unable to impart their own goods". [33] If Venus is lord of the 8th and dignified or without affliction, it would seem to indicate good financial luck by my experience."

"Saturn:

If Saturn is in the 8th house or lord of the 8th, and dignified or received, it may be indicative of a trust fund set aside for the native, or a financial reserve that the native has to qualify for to get, sometimes just by coming of age. If Saturn is in sect without debility then you will be able trust another with your finances with certainty because it is indicative of a careful accountant and administrator, one who is not fooled by unworthy schemes.

If Saturn is out of sect here (or debilitated in some way), it indicates waste and losses. According to Paulus: " ...they bring the falling off of ones livelihood, the destruction of things, losses, and affairs that do not turn out well, and sometimes they contribute to a bad death". [30] Modern astrologers tend to say that it forces one to rely on their own resources, because the banks will tend to be strict with credit. Stinginess may result on either side.

It can also signify that you may attract a marriage partner who cannot manage finances well and may therefore have nothing to lend (marrying down in other words). It might also indicate a greater than normal chance of being audited by the IRS. If the chart is nocturnal, it can indicate the absence of the father. In some, it creates a heightened fear of death and a sense of morbidity."

12th

"Mars:

According to Paulus: "When the star of Ares [Mars] happens to be upon this place, it afflicts the determination concerning slaves and quadrupeds, and supplies treacheries from servile persons and furnishes the occasions". [77] The reasoning here is that Mars creates a character of heat and dryness (felt as hatred) that separates them from empathy with you.

It is often the case that the native is not aware of their own subconscious anger and that this forces its way to the surface in the form of confrontations with others where the cause of the conflict is not well understood; usually in the form of one of those "last straw" situations that brings the energies of this place to light. Here it is very important to keep awareness of the effect of your actions upon other people and to stay aware of hidden motivations."
