I personally find that it's not the number of degrees from an aspect in a synastry chart that seem to make the most sense to me, but simply the signs planets are in - despite the fact that some aspects are such as small trine they might as well be a square, for example. If planets are in signs that are considered to form a trine to each other, I count them as a trine, square, whatever.
Does this sound completely unprofessional??! - It's just that counting degrees gives me a headache!!

Again, I agree with you!

Orbs was something I didn't even know about until I got here to LL. This is how I see it... If I'm giving a quick look at someone's placements, you know, just the planets, not the Houses, then I too consider the signs the planets are in to be Square/Trine, etc., if only by sign.

I could stay busy with just that.

Then, if someone wants to dig deeper, they'd TWEAK it by considering the degrees, and orbs. To me, it doesn't seem to completely CHANGE the dynamics if it turns out different, as much as it gives it an additional DIMENSION.

Sort of like - I have Taurus Rising at 29.48 degrees. All these years, until I got here to LL, I never even considered any affects of "The 29th Degree", nor did I consider I may have some Gemini influence, although it seems not to be AT ALL professional to say such a thing about Asc's. (So save it all you's out there - )...

And if I do some meditative work, you know, like when you let all the information soak in, and then allow it to enhance your natural intuitioin - and go down the line of all the signs, cuz you're not sure what your Asc is because of birth certificate tangles, I cannot relate to ONE of them more than another. I relate to all equally...

I explain the reason for this to myself. My mother almost died when I was born, and she was majorly drugged up, and this was back in 1961, when lobotomies and the like were the norm - so the drugs were NOT people friendly yet, and naturally, the drugs went through the umbilical cord to me.

That is to say, it's like being in a lucid dream state for as long as it would take the Asc to adopt most of the signs once. Maybe another reason why I'm such a hermit, I never found an Asc for myself which would be a perfect fit.

Anyways, forgot to say, I think the degrees need to be accurate in order to see the balance of the planets/signs as well as the Houses, since just a few degrees of difference can change the House placements completely.

Just, the closer the degrees are to an angle, the more intense that particular influence will be. There's probably a lot more wisdom out there about this.

Hmmm. I can see what you mean about the degree of the aspect giving it an additional dimension. In my personal chart my Saturn is on the Gemini/Cancer cusp (at approx. 29 degrees) - which could explain why I'm feeling the effects of Saturn in Cancer, and potentially life-changing events, much more than I did when Saturn was in Gemini...though this may all just be a 4th House effect...
You know something? I can't wait for Saturn to move into Leo...
