I wish I had my copy of Love Signs to reference, but I loaned it out...

In the begining of the book, Linda talks about the time frame of the month you were born in and how that specifically affects your personality.

For instance, I was born the 29th of Sept., which makes me a Libra/Libra... hardcrore! My SIL was born Nov. 5, which makes her a Scorp/Pisces.

I haven't heard any talk of this here in LL, and I'm wondering what you astro buffs have to say about it?

Can anyone elaborate on this subject?

Do you mean decanates? I have a book that has decanates, but lists planetary subrulers rather than signs. I wonder if that is similar. I was borni nt eh third decanate of Gemini, so my planet subruler is Uranus, which I suppose could make my sign subruler Aquarius...as if I needed any more of that wacky Aqua-Uranian vibe in my chart. LOL.

But how do you find out which decante you're in? I don't really remember reading that in Love Signs... I was born on February 25th.

That's OK Libra - I had to look it up myself to make sure I was thinking of the right thing!

I don't recall seeing it in Love Signs either. Maybe I skipped over that part (I'm a Gemini - we skip over a lot LOL).

Everlong, yours is the 1st decanate of Pisces, and your subruler would be Neptune. So that's like a Pisces with Pisces subruler I guess. In the book I have (The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need) it says fo rthis decanate:

Keyword: Imagination
Constellation: Pegasus, the Winged Horse who bears the rider of good fortune
Planetary subruler: Neptune

Neptune the planet of illusion in both your ruler and subruler, which emphasizes creativity and imagination. There may be involvement in arisitc or literary work: you have a talent for expressing your inner thoughts. You are particularly sensitive to people with whom you share you rlife. Discord is unbearable to you and you will do your best to shield yourself from unpleasantness. Your keen mind is open to ideas and personal achievment is important to you. Often you must struggle to accentuate positiveness instead of letting negative feelings overwhelm you. You may suffer from physical ailments, but your character is very strong. Love is probably tempestuous, for you have deep passions.

Here's some things this book says about decanates:

Each astrological sign is divided into three parts, and each part is called a decanate or decan...Te decanate of a sign does not change the basic characteristics of that sign, but it does refine and individualize that sign's general characteristics....Each dcanate has a constellation in the heavens that..have special mystical meanings that also add to the unique quality of your decante.

...each decanate has a specific planetary ruler, sometimes called a subruler because it does not usurp the overall rulership of the sign. The subruler can only enhance, or add to, the distinct characteristics of that decanate.

I was born at 25 degrees in Sagittarius. I have the "Sun" decanate or under Leo.

Mr. Taurus was born at 27 degrees Taurus- so that makes him a Saturn decanate or under Capricorn.

Hi LibraSparkles..

Hee hee..yes..I am fiery..Aries moon / Venus in Sag - thank goodness for that Mars in Pisces to kind of water me down a bit. I also have a pretty full first house - well two planets, but they are biggies -Uranus in Libra (singleton) and Pluto in Virgo.

Can you imagine my poor parents (Cappy / Cancer dad and Cancer / Cancer mom) raising two Saggie kids with lots of fire? LOL..we were total spazzes..no wonder they stopped at two.

Wow Pidaua, you lst house sounds like mine. You must have been born around 71. The add to my 1st house fun, my Pluto rising is part of T-square. My Uranus is a cardinal singleton that's part of an air grand trine that also includes an Aqua mars - which is way I said I really didn't need any more wacky Aqua-Uranus vibe in my chart from my decanate. No wonder people mistake me for an Aqua.

LOL..Yep, I was actually born in 1969 - December.

My Uranus..(hee hee) is also in a Cardinal sign -Libra and makes up a part of my T-square (Moon in Aries in the 7th and Mercury in Cappy in the 4th). It's also my only Air planet or singleton.

I have Pluto conjunct ascendant within 1-2 degrees in Virgo.

People either guess right off that I am a Sag or they thing Virgo. I still get carded (I love having Virgo rising) and look much younger than my 34 years - Yippeeeee....

Im in the leo decanate. One thing I've noticed about decanates and I've only realised this recently is that signs born in the first decanates seem to be more imature or kid-like than signs born in later decanates.

Most the people i know are leos, virgos and pisces. With leos, there were three leos that i know of at my school last year. The first one was born on the 25th of july i think or anyways 25 or 26..he would've been in the aries decanete. The second one was on the 9th of august so he would've been in the leo dec..and the 3rd was on the 22nd of august so thats sag.

I think they were pretty different. The 1st one was a lot more immature and also very centered on sex (he basicaly asked nearly every girl if she would have sex with him and showed of about his (damn theres no whistling smiley) size) whereas the second was more romantic (he seemed very lovey dovey)though he had his arogant times and the third one was very career oriented and focused on work and was also the least arogant and egotistical of them all.

Also on the Aussie Big Brother, not that I know these people but they were on tv 24/7... There were two leos, Igor who was in the aries decanate and Trevor who was on the 20th of august i think, so he'd be sag. Trevor actually won it, he was a legend and everybody loved him. Igor on the other hand was seen as aggressive and arogant and he was kicked after about two weeks.

Also with virgos, they seem a lot more careless when they're born in the first decante and they have car accidents a lot, whereas later virgos i've noticed are a lot more stable, specially virgo/capricorn.

It could also be that these people had very different charts and it wasnt necessarily related to the decanate they were born in...but that's just a trend I noticed.

Also, both the first leo and the thrid leo i knew last yr had their moons in scorpio so thats possibly why the first leo was OVER sexual, though the other one wasnt at all. They were worlds apart in attitude and the way they treated people.

LibraSparkle, I myself am born on the 29th of September also! I have only seen one other person besides yourself that I share a birthday with.
Now to answer your question... I am by no means an Astrology buff; I am very far from that. I read either in a book or on-line and I distinctly remember reading that I was born on the third decanate, which would make me Libra/Gemini (you also). Anyone that has more astrological knowledge on decanates feel free to comment and correct me if I am wrong, but I have some strange feeling that I am not. (I hope... *crosses fingers* lol)

Being born earlier would mean the Venus and Mercury would most likely be in different signs than a later birth.

Make sense?
So a late Taurus would have more planets in Gemini than Aries. That Taurus would act differently.

In Chinese Astrology they have a similar concept, they believe in elements for the day you are born, and then they combine all your elements, day, month, year and hour, to get your "horoscope".

I was born on the 19th, the day of the horse. I need water people, or water elements in my life since I am very earthy, water represents mother so I need mothering, nurturing environments/people/events.

That is the Capricorn decante? but I have tons in my 10th house I can't judge one way or another.

I believe the mercury and venus do change so that has a lot to do with it.

If you want to read about Chinese Astrology Here is where you can find your elements. http://chineseastrologyonline.com/CFTCal2.htm

These concepts were introduced to add on other aspects to a personality, I believe the reason astrologers did this was to make things simpler for those who did not read aspects.

It took me ten years plus to learn how to read aspects so there is logic to the decanate system but it's a symbol.

There is another idea,
The Ascendant Hour gives you another flavor to your personality, mine is Libra,
8-9pm is Libra
9-10pm is Scorpio

All these ideas come from the same places, but they are called different things depending on the school of thought or country. But ideas belong to everyone, so judge individually.

Natasha, that is incorrect. Decanates are an ancient practice in astrology. The word decante comes from dekanoi in Greek, which means "ten days apart." According to the book I quote from above (which is rather cursory in some respects, but the historical information is quite accurate). the ancient Greeks borrowed this system from the Egyptian, who at the time had only a 360 day year, and had a 12 month system that was broken down further into 10 day periods, which when the Greek adopted and applied to astrology, they called dekanoi. This probably explains why there's constellations associated with each decanate, which ancient Greek astrology relied heavily on the myths they associated with constellations and other heavenly bodies.

How exactly the Greeks interpreted decanates beyond these constellations, and how it'd differ from today isn't outlined in this book (you'd probably need a much more indepth book of astology history to get into that). But I suspect strongly that the marginization of using decanates as a "shortcut" is fairly recent and neglects much of the earlier teachings regarding this practice that may in fact provide useful insights in addition to aspects. I have never used them much myself since there's little indepth information about them readily available.

You may wish to regard them as obsolete, but be assured that, knowing human behavior, no doubt someone down the line with "rediscover" them and make a case for (and probably write a book titled) "The Lost Wisdom of Decantes."

Correct GeminiN, but all ideas are meaningless without practical relevance!

Ideas are never discovered by a particular people, actually all ideas are discovered at the same time by different cultures all over the Earth, only we have no way to prove that. Studies are made, but no credit can be due unless it's shown that the same studies were not undertaken in an alternate culture previously or at the same time.

Chinese astrology is very similar to Western astrology and they are not separate schools of thought, they are actually separate practical applications to the same ideas.
Libra=Dog for example,
both the same thing, different words
In China the Dog has the characteristcs of Libra. I find astrology easier with simplification, ideas and concepts are easier to understand that way. Dog is no different than Libra.

Astrology was meant to be of practical day to day use, at least that's my perception, and my perception may or may not be grounded with my Neptune opp Sun!

But my observations are very relevant: So many people are confused already in astrology and worry about which book to read, and use. Each way is just path, no path is better than any other.

You would not believe how angry I can make astrologers by repeating that statement!

There are very fanatical astrologers out there, who will fight tooth and nail over words. That's sad because the Message must be remembered.

We all have choices, choose life over
negativity and death.

Cool beans! What year were you born? It's always fun to meet someone with the same birthday

Thanks for clearing up the Libra/Gemini thing. That's interesting for me. My Asc. is Gemini.

LibraSparkle -

What's an SIL? Sister in law? Tell me, is she married? If not, how old is she? The reason I ask is this: I have an astrology book on birthdays and it gives a list of corresponding birthdays for potential soul mates. I'm Nov. 6th (1978), and one of the days listed for me is Nov. 5th. Never hurts to ask, right?

You guys are right. It's not in Love Signs. I get all the books I read confused. Silly-head me I called my girlfriend I loaned the book to, and she let me know which one of my books I could find the info in! Isn't that funny?! My friend had to tell me where to find the info in MY book! I swear! I'm such a space caddet sometimes!

Anyhow, Venus decanate is September 22-October 3 (which is my oldest's B-Day). So, we're both Libra/Libra ... straight up man!

Thanks for all of your responses!
