In a glossary that was posted in another thread, I saw a mention of "Christian astrology". I'm curious, how does that work?

Never heard of it, sounds interesting... I'll give it a look and bring back what I find. Anyone else?

Greetings...

Christian Astrology was the premiere book on Horary Astrology by William Lilly. It was the first book on Astrology to be published in English, if memory serves me correctly.

Horary Astrology is that branch of the science that deals with answering specific questions based on the time the question was asked.

It is very much classical astrology, and I'm not sure there are too many here with the patience to study this tome, as it was written in "older" English, and it has the funny f's that look like s's (or are they s's that look like f's?)

(And yes, I have a copy and have made a fairly extensive study of it. But I don't think that people that 'can't do a chart without Chiron and the asteroids' would be very much interested in this work. It uses the Traditional rulerships).

Hope that helps.

In the Light...

Hi, as a beginner Astrologer who likes Chiron, I'm just saying Chiron should be included in traditional astrology, not for astrologers to solely bow down to Chiron.

As for Juno, Eros, and other such asteroids I haven't made a huge study of it, but I will probably look into it eventually.

Chiron is being widely used by some Astrologers with matters concerning love, power, and money. The asteroid specializes in Cinderella stories.

Why did Bush win the election over Gore (Astrologically speaking)? The most traditional Astrologers were pointing to Gore as the winner, but Magi Astrologers were looking at a different story. Gore was going through a heartbreak transit with Saturn, while Bush was going through a cinderella transit that I believe led him into office with a slight edge. If anyone asks I'll go into full detail later.

Greetings...

Star... it's too late for Chiron to be a part of Traditional Astrology, that is the Astrrology that was handed down from the Ancients to the Renaissance and through to today.

Modern Astrology, that gives rulership to the outer planets, developed sometime around the turn of the last century. And more recently some astrologers, have decided to start allwoing comets or asteroids or whatever Chiron is, I don't believe that debate is settled yet... to RULE signs. This is WRONG!

Until we have the benefit of much, much more study... the rulerships should be left as they stand.

Undoubtedly it is fun to waffle about with some new ideas (and as you well know, I have my own esoteric system that I use on occasion) but that does not mean that we should up and start allocating such important value as RULERSHIP to these secondary factors.

I'm not saying that there is no merit to the outer planets.. certainly they are quite valid. However, when one practices Traditional Astrology, one still uses the old rulers (Mars, Jupiter and Saturn) for Scorpio, Pisces and Aquarius.

The old systems still work! The modern system does work. But one cannot simply start adding the outer planets to the Tables of Essential Dignities of Ptolemy, for example... it doesn't work.

Chiron is a secondary factor at best, in my estimation, and does not RULE any sign. It may have an affinity with particular signs. But affinity and Rulership are different.

Just trying to be precise with terminology.

As ever, I am the opininated Astrologer.

Blessings...
A

Which house system do you prefer? The most widely used one is the Placidian house system. I don't know if it is as accurate as some say it is. What about Koch, Campanus, Meridian, and all the rest?

Greetings...

Star, I look at both an Equal House chart and one cast in a quadrant system. Currently my quadrant house system of choice is Campanus.

Equal House system is a picture of the Soul as it is in its natural realm... where all things are Equal.

When that Soul incarnates into Physical Reality (or UNREALITY, as the case may be) and most things here are certainly and arguably UNEQUAL... I use the quadrant house systems, that can cause interceptions. An Interception is when some signs have 2 House Cusps (or more depending upon the latitude) and some signs seem like they are squished into houses, but have no CUSP position.

I use Campanus because it makes sense to me, after 20 plus years of research in the field. If I find a system that makes more sense, then I will use that. Up until I started with Campanus, I used Placidus and Koch. Neither of which seemed as accurate to me when I learned of the Campanus System.

I say try them all, as did Linda, and use what works for YOU.

Hope that helps a bit.

Blessings...

P.S. If I am doing a Horary chart, I use Regiomontanus House System, because that was the system favored by William Lilly, who wrote Christian Astrology the master work on the Horary Art. If it was good enough for him.. it's good enough for me!

I like Placidus, and then looking at the Campanus - that makes sense. I'm still not at the point where I do both everytime, I'm still learning with Placidus. Didn't like Koch. Equal is so-so...

I think Linda was right on with the Equal House system. I think I prefer that one the most. I've had some pretty good success with it so far. I find it easy, and better to read. More accurate in my opinion, the ancients are hardly ever wrong. But then again, I'm only a beginner. Why do things have to get so complicated with the cusps? I believe Linda was right, truth is found in simplicity.

Hi Librasparkle, I'm trying to search where I found that information, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. What I wrote was from memory. It wasn't my observation, it was a Magi Astrologer who wrote it, but now I can't find the link.

Yeah, I find some great new stuff with Equal, but for some reason, I'm not weened off of Placidus yet. Hee hee - maybe I'm just used to it more. I'm not one of those Window users who has it in for Mac users -
