I have found these to be pretty accurate for me http://groups.msn.com/HOROSCOPESCHAT/dream1.msnw

"For a young woman to dream that her lover commits suicide, her disappointment
by the faithlessness of her lover is accentuated."

I had this dream last night, and I felt guilt about my ex boyfriend. I remembered how he was unfaithful to me after I read this interpretation, so don't feel guilty anymore.

Hmmm...I can never find my dreams in these lists.

Anyhow, I think caution is advised here. These are from 1901, and apparently carry subtle cultural biases that may not be exactly parallel to today's psyche, although it might be revealing of certain prejudices. I found this under "Jew" for example:

To dream of being in company with a Jew, signifies untiring ambition
and an irrepressible longing after wealth and high position,
which will be realized to a very small extent.

For a young woman to dream of a Jew, omens that she will mistake flattery
for truth, and find that she is only a companion for pleasure.

For a man to dream of a Jewess, denotes that his desires
run parallel with voluptuousness and easy comfort.

For a Gentile to dream of Jews, signifies worldly cares and profit
from dealing with them.

To argue with them, your reputation is endangered from a business standpoint.

Granted this may not strike some as overtly offensive, but it certainly plays upon the turn-of-the-century, pre-Holocaust European (and American) Anti-Semitism that stereotyped Jews as greedy, excessively materialistic, power hungry, devious, lying, lazy, vindictive, and self-indulgent. Jewish women were often stereotyped as evil, unscrupluous seductresses who wanted Gentile men only for their wealth, so they could wallow away in an easy, undemanding life of material indulgences. It not hard to see how this is turned into the meaning of dreams concerning Jews - granted of course, this would apply more to someone who did believe in such stereotypes, which hopefully isn't too prevelant these days.

Yes these dream guides are always a little odd, considering who knows who wrote them orginally or what was going on that day.

There are some strange interpretations, for example hanging doesn't match suicide even though I dreamed of a suicide by hanging. The two interpretations were different, since the hanging one made no sense I turned to the other.
So I write down the overall theme of my dream now, and what I was feeling rather than symbols.

If I was angry and looking for a way out of an abyss, I will look at searching, or escaping rather than abyss. Takes some time to get used to but I have been dreaming of many symbols of separations, which must relate to the immediate condition of my separating from the Gemini and his calling and leaving messages.

Hacking away old bonds, such as ropes, with a knife, I looked at all interpretations but found separation under knife and felt more peace of mind about my decision.

If it helps with your peace of mind read it, but if these disturb you in some way of course, then you don't have to believe.

I have found as I get older, peace of mind eludes me under the overwhelming amount of detail and material considerations in my life. Looking at dreams help me resolve myself to decisions I have made in the daytime.

Useful for indecisiveness, or guilt.

I've remembered every single dream since I was a kid, so I'm really in tune. I've used reference books often just to pick up on any archetypes, and disregard when it's to biased. There's a lot of that. Not to say a "modern" book would be any better. It's a bit archeological. I DO NOT use Jung to interpret, in fact, because it's so natural to me, I just have my own way. All that other stuff assumes you have no power over your dreams, and you do. And it has power over you too.
